I can’t even begin to explain how much being at rainbow hill changed my life for the better. Joey and Andrew (owners) are some of the most understanding, kind, and generous people I have ever met. They do so much for us that goes unnoticed so publicly I am saying the biggest thank you for everything. When I got to rainbow hill I was a mess, I was scared of my insurance kicking me out, everything was new and I did not know anyone. Every one of the staff members that I met were so kind and patient with me. I was so combative to treatment at first. I didn’t think anything was going to work. But they believe in me when I couldn’t and I am beyond grateful for that. I am in such a better place than I was when I got here. I am actually excited for the future and I know it’s going to be hard but I know I can get through it and being at rainbow hill is the biggest reason for that. I have never been more grateful to have ended up here. I am happy again. Thank you so much for everything.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.

Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) support a client's sustained sobriety as they exit detox or step down from an inpatient program. IOPs are also designed for clients who are at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in a minimum of nine hours of therapy per week, but clients may receive up to 20 therapeutic hours weekly. IOP treatment modalities often combine psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

Alcoholism, or alcohol use disorder (AUD), is defined by alcohol dependence. This is a state the body reaches when it experiences withdrawal symptoms in the absence of alcohol. A person who has AUD craves alcohol and continues to drink despite adverse consequences. Because withdrawing from alcohol can pose health risks, individuals with AUD should seek professional alcohol rehab in California to overcome their alcohol addiction. This process typically involves medical detox, rehabilitation, and maintenance.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

In California, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs offer comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Programs include medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. Using an evidence-based approach, clinicians utilize therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy and mindfulness to address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges. Additional services include 12-Step recovery, group therapy, family counseling, and relapse prevention to promote sustained recovery.

In California, substance abuse treatment programs can help individuals with any type of substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. These rehab programs typically encompass various levels of care, including medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. You can expect clinicians to utilize evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness to help you achieve and sustain your recovery. The rehab's clinical team can provide a comprehensive assessment to determine the appropriate level of care and medical support you may need.

Inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol addiction with a focus on mental health is a good fit for people who need closer monitoring and care. Treatment may occur in a hospital setting, a clinic, or a luxury rehab center. Mental health counselors and staff are available 24/7. Therapies typically include group and individual counseling, relapse prevention education, and emotional coping skills training.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

During group therapy, men and women learn to express their emotions openly in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and reduces feelings of social isolation that are often associated with addiction.

Individual therapy for drug addiction includes a customized treatment plan that considers your history and life circumstances. During your therapy sessions, the therapist helps you uncover underlying issues and triggers for addictive behavior that support a holistic approach to recovery.

Family therapy offers a platform for members to have an open dialogue about the challenges that addiction has placed on the family unit. Through guided sessions, therapists can help families develop healthy communication skills and address unresolved issues. By working together toward a common goal, they help to support their loved one's sobriety.

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

The goal of creative arts therapy in California is to encourage growth and transformation. It can be used in individual and group settings with both children and adults. Options include movement, music, and painting.

So when I came to Rainbow Hill back in February/March of 2026, I had come feeling so deflated from suffering and dealing with a severe OD that almost cost me my life. They welcomed me with open arms and open hearts and worked with me with all of my baggage and were/are a huge pillar of support in my recovery/mental health journey. The staff, the directors, the clients, everything felt like home with the community that we built together, the bonds we shared, the love and compassion that flourished all throughout my stay there. I am forever grateful for Rainbow Hill and all that they helped me through. The groups were both educational and personal, the case manager was on point and fought extremely hard for me when needed be (the best of divas) while also being a gentle push for me to take care of what I needed to on my own part, and the directors are phenomenal people who are there for me even to this day. Between the flexibility, the understanding, the patience, the passion and compassion, if you're looking for a place to be yourself, while bettering yourself, this is 💯 % the place to go. I love this place so much.

Response from the owner

Creating a community rooted in compassion, connection, patience, and genuine human care is at the heart of why Rainbow Hill exists. Our entire team puts so much of themselves into creating that kind of space, and words like these mean the world to us.

Response from the owner
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such kind and thoughtful words. Reading this truly means so much to our entire team.

Rainbow Hill was built around the belief that people deserve a space where they can feel supported, understood, connected, and empowered with tools they can carry with them into everyday life. Knowing that those values are being felt and recognized is incredibly meaningful to us.

And thank you especially for the incredibly kind words about Joey, Andrew, and the Rainbow Hill team. So much heart goes into what we do every single day, and messages like this are a beautiful reminder of why this community means so much to us.

We’re incredibly grateful for your support and for taking the time to share this. 🌈💜

I am leaving a five star review out of fear of retaliation. They may hypothetically have a rat infestation at their sober living. As the owners say over and over "Rainbow Hill Recovery and Rainbow Hill Sober Living are separate entities." They have the same owners (Joey and Andrew) so I am confused as to why they keep saying that. It's a slogan they use to avoid accountability for the atrocious housing conditions. But overall, the PHP was a good experience. The house- "a separate entity"- is falling apart including what could hypothetically be perceived as a health hazard that is rodent related (a rat infestation by definition). But the PHP had great groups with topics like queer joy, distress tolerance, etc. While I enjoyed the PHP program, I ended up transferring to do a different IOP. I also left their "separate entity" Rainbow Hill Sober Living. They do not provide transportation for IOP from the "separate entity" Rainbow Hill Sober Living (Joey and Andrew own Rainbow Hill Sober Living and Rainbow Hill Recovery, but are obsessed with calling them "separate entities."). While PHP groups were good, definitely make sure to advocate for yourself while there and keep tabs on when you will move on to IOP. Call your insurance to verify when PHP ends so they don't keep extending it to get more insurance money. Also, expect the owners to continue to say the sober living (Rainbow Hill Sober Living) and programming (Rainbow Hill Recovery) are "separate entities," a catch phrase they use to avoid accountability for the horrific conditions at the sober living they own (Rainbow Hill Sober Living). They own both but call them "separate entities" repeatedly. I left a five star review of their sober living (which hypothetically has a rat infestation) out of fear of retaliation. And I'll leave a five star one here for the same reason. In addition, if you decide to potentially go elsewhere for programming and/or housing, know that the LGBTQIA+ affirming recovery house and program owners all know each other. For example, No Matter What Recovery called the owners of Rainbow Hill Sober Living and Rainbow Hill Recovery (the same couple) when I expressed interest in doing IOP with No Matter What instead of Rainbow Hill Recovery. Steven, the case manager, confirmed that No Matter Recovery did in fact call the owners of Rainbow Hill Recovery when I asked about their program. Steven said it openly in my discharge meeting. Also, one of the owners of Rainbow Hill Recovery attempted to intimidate me and failed miserably. Rather than "warning" clients that if they "were to cause problems that we all talk" consider how that might drive a client to leave entirely. The minute I got that "warning" I decided they no longer would receive my insurance or rent money. That owner made a big mistake talking to a USC alum from Pasadena that way. It was a little hilarious that he would speak to someone like that who is well-connected, a revered journalist with readers on 6 continents, etc. If the owners want people to stay don't attempt to intimidate them. I will give them a high rating because the facilitators and clinical director were great, but also because I fear retaliation. Dealing with the owners was somewhat comical and I know they will never forget me, my self-advocacy, and the reminder that you don't try to intimidate or "warn" someone who is educated and knows their shit. They were not used to having clients who were highly educated. Even though the owners did questionable things, I made life-long friends. I already have plans to see them again even though I just left Rainbow Hill Recovery's programming and Rainbow Hill Sober Living ("separate entities"). I will never forget Rainbow Hill Recovery and Rainbow Hill Sober Living I mean Joey and Andrew's "separate entities." And I sure as hell know they will never forget me.

Response from the owner
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear that you found value in our PHP programming, our clinical team, and the connections you made while in treatment. Providing affirming, clinically sound care for the LGBTQIA+ community remains at the core of what we do.

Because of federal privacy laws, including HIPAA, we are not able to address or confirm any individual’s participation in our program or respond to specific claims. That said, we do want to clarify a few important points for anyone reading this.

Rainbow Hill Recovery and Rainbow Hill Sober Living share ownership but are intentionally structured as separate entities. This is standard across the behavioral health field to meet licensing requirements, maintain ethical boundaries, and ensure clients have full choice in both their care and housing.

As a separate organization, Rainbow Hill Sober Living operates independently with its own standards and oversight. Any housing related concerns are handled directly by that team.

With regard to our treatment services, we maintain strict standards for safety, cleanliness, and clinical care. There are no rodent related issues within our treatment facility.

We also want to be clear that we do not tolerate retaliation of any kind. Clients are free to explore other programs, seek outside opinions, and make independent decisions about their care at any time. Feedback whether positive or critical has no bearing on how individuals are treated or supported. At times, providers in this field may communicate to support continuity of care, always with respect for client autonomy and confidentiality.

Clinical recommendations, including level of care and length of stay, are based on individual needs and medical necessity. We support clients in advocating for themselves and work together to ensure appropriate transitions to higher or lower levels of care when clinically indicated. When our services are not the right fit, we support individuals in exploring other options and making a safe and clinically appropriate transition.

Our organization operates with clear standards and accountability. The trust we’ve built with clients, families, and professional partners reflects that commitment.

We are proud of the work our team does and the community that has been built here. Our focus remains on delivering safe, ethical, and affirming care, and we will continue to uphold that standard.

We wish you the best moving forward.
