When I arrived I myself did not believe I had left myself any chance at a Happy life. Quickly I learned that with patience and determination and the ability to listen there was hope. Starting off at the 3.1 house and I say house for while you’re there the treatment is also a home for us that needed the help. You won’t feel hurried or rushed due to someone just trying to tax your insurance never was I made to feel like a number.daily house meetings counseling sessions and and dinner together are a must however you have your whole day and night to gain employment and reconnect with your loved one’s. Once you’ve completed the required steps in this home you will move to a sober home of the mission if you choose to continue . In the sober home you will be able to move freely to work to meeting and whatever your recreational activities may be. All of this sounded so uncomfortable to me until I saw and lived it myself and I can tell you there is just such an opportunity for you and a chance to build a life that sounds like such a fairytale when I was in active addiction . There is a meeting every morning on the beach that completely changes your mind about your chances. I can go further into detail and would be happy to with any questions about this program it saved my life I assure you I’m not writing this column without all of my friends I made getting sober at the mission. Beth was my lead counselor and I have nothing but good things to say. She was very honest, and intentional with her counseling, allowing me to feel comfortable and purposeful in our sessions. She also led groups that had an alternate approach to therapy, such as hands on activities like creating vision boards or mindfulness jars. I had abusive parents and was an epileptic. I loved every minute of being there. They helped me with my emotional feelings and taught me that it was okay to feel the way I did about being abused by my parents. Back then we had units that we were placed on. I was on the "debs" unit. We had the best unit leaders going. I'm 62 now but I will always remember them and their names, because they were the only people that validated my feelings and emotions and told me I was okay. I still today have friends from way back then. I appreciate everything that Bradley hospital did for me and I will never forget that they took care of me when nobody else would! I had my issues with them. Plenty. But, i stuck it out, moved into a grad apartment after almost a year in the phase 1 and 2 houses and got thrown out on my ass for a positive for opiates urine. False positive. My Stepingstone Sisters all pitched in so i had the $35 (in change)for a restest. and instead of another test they retested the same tainted sample. So i was thrown out. I have my suspucions a sto what happened but i got to see karma hand look e that! It made me even stronger. I stayed sober. And guessed where I worked for 2 years after being thrown out? Yup. Stepingstone Woman's House. The person i think was responsible for my dirty urine had gotten the boot and i gladly worked there in the office. And, I made sure i treated every single woman with kindness, respect and compassion and i think i was well liked and respected by most. I remember Richie before he was mgr. I knew him. I knew his gif look friend at the time too. I don't know if he's there now but i saw his name mentioned. So, my point is this: Dont bite your nose off to spite your face. You're there for yourself. Sure there are some anal orafices around but who are they to you in the long run...nobody. Focus on yourself and your sobriety. Then get out and live your lives as best you can. I don't ever wanna go back to that miserable, degrading life again. Do you? I don't ever wanna live at Steppingstone or any other halfway house ever again and get pushed around and bullied at times. I will never be told when to go to bed, when I wake up, when and where I eat I'm here to tell you that you don't have to ever again. It's up to you. Your adults. Plus i can tell you right now from reading some of these whose sober and who isn't. Don't hang with the losers. You know who they are. Staying in the program for one year then moving to the grad house for 11 months helped me alot with getting back on a schedule and living a normal life. I will forever be grateful for this place and the awesome staff that helped me along the way.
