Going to a detox and a rehab is so hard scary and you are riddled with shame when I was at Heartwood and I finally was able to get the strength to eat, the first person that shared kindness, no judgment, no disrespect, and no shame was the Chef at Heartwood Novato. I don’t remember what his name is, but what I do remember is how he made me feel. I have been at rehab before and this time it was very different and I have been sober since this Chef has brown hair, kind eyes, and he would talk to me, and I saw him talk to all the clients and listen to them and hear their stories and make them feel so good about who they are as a human being not about the things that they have done. And I think this person really deserves to be lifted and raised up to the highest because that’s what he gave to me into the other clients that I got to see while I was there. I really think it’s important to recognize those that help light up our souls because that’s what we need in this world and so this recognition is to the Chef at Heartwood Novato to thank this person for lighting up my soul when it felt so dark, and it felt so judged, and it was riddled with shame it was you that fed me and it was you that helps me feel more human than anyone else has ever made me feel. I don’t say that lightly. My individual therapist truly helped save my life and helped me find a part of myself that I honestly thought was gone. For the first time in over 10 years, I can say that I know what it feels like to live without depending on opiates. I came to Alta Mira carrying years of pain, walls I had built around myself, and things I had never been completely honest about. My therapist was the first therapist I ever felt safe enough to truly open up to. She challenged me when I needed it, listened without judging me, and stayed beside me through some of the hardest days of my life. She helped me learn that saying “I’m okay” and actually being okay are two very different things. The staff and the people I met at Alta Mira gave me support during a time when I desperately needed it. From my very first contact with the team through intake and throughout my entire stay, I was met with an incredible level of warmth, compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. Olejan, Louise, and Kristin were absolutely wonderful. They made the intake process comfortable, seamless, and easy, and it was immediately clear that they genuinely care about each client and their recovery. The facility itself is exceptional. It is beautifully maintained, private, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed with high-end amenities that truly support the recovery process. Unlike many treatment programs, Simmons accommodates a maximum of six clients at a time, which allows the team to provide an incredibly personalized level of care and attention. The environment feels much more like a private, comfortable, luxurious home than a traditional treatment facility. What stood out to me most was how individualized the entire program is. Reflections takes the time to understand each client's specific needs and builds treatment around them, while also focusing on providing the tools and foundation necessary for long-term success after leaving the program. The clinical and medical care is outstanding. There is 24-hour nursing support, and the nursing team is made up of incredibly compassionate and attentive people who genuinely care about the wellbeing of every client. Medical needs are closely monitored, medications are regularly reviewed and adjusted when necessary, and there is consistent communication with the clinical director, executive director, psychiatrist, and nurse practitioner. I always felt that my needs were being heard and taken seriously. The therapeutic program is equally impressive. Clients participate in intensive daily group therapy, individual therapy, and specialized relapse-prevention work. The counselors are knowledgeable, compassionate, diligent, and completely focused on the client's recovery. The groups are educational and provide practical tools surrounding CBT, coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, and many other areas that are essential for maintaining recovery outside of treatment. There are also regular check-ins, family sessions, and additional support whenever needed. Another thing that made my experience so special was the range of supportive activities available. In addition to traditional therapy, Reflections offers outings, sound baths, art therapy, music therapy, massages, salon visits, equine therapy, meditation, and numerous recovery meetings. These experiences provide additional tools for healing and introduce healthy activities that can continue to be incorporated into life after treatment. Visitation is also available, allowing clients to maintain meaningful connections with their loved ones throughout the process. The personal chefs are another incredible part of the experience. Meals are high quality, thoughtfully prepared, and customized around individual dietary needs and restrictions. Every detail of the environment is designed to make clients feel safe, comfortable, supported, and cared for. I would wholeheartedly recommend Reflections to anyone seeking help with recovery, whether it is their first experience with treatment or they have been through treatment before. The entire team approaches their work with an extraordinary amount of care, empathy, patience, and compassion. Most importantly, I truly felt that the focus was always on the individual client — not simply getting through a program, but helping each person build the foundation and tools necessary for a successful future. Y J 6 days ago I spent three months in Reflections' inpatient program followed by six months in their outpatient program, and I can say without hesitation that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The level of professionalism, compassion, and clinical expertise provided by every member of the team is truly world-class. In my opinion, Reflections sets the gold standard for addiction treatment. If you fully commit to the program, embrace the guidance of the staff, and continue your recovery by participating in support groups such as AA or NA after treatment, I genuinely believe you will give yourself the greatest possible opportunity to achieve lasting sobriety. I arrived at Reflections completely broken by addiction. I left with something I had not felt in a very long time—hope. Several months ago, my brother was in a very dangerous place in his life. It got to the point where we feared for his life on a weekly basis and knew we had to do something urgently. Our family staged an intervention and successfully got my brother to agree to inpatient treatment. After extensive research, I found that Reflections was our best option, and I believe choosing Reflections is a decision that may have saved his life. From the very first phone call I had with program director Olejan, I felt a level of genuine care, intelligence, nuance, and humanity that Olejan brought to our conversations. He wasn't trying to sell us the program or anything like that. We had heart-to-heart conversations that made me feel like Reflections would be our partner in my brother's recovery. I felt confident in the credentialed clinical team they have there with Dr. Hanna, and reassured that the level of care my brother would receive would be top-notch, with more one-to-one therapeutic care than what most inpatient treatment centers could offer in Los Angeles. My brother's main therapist at Reflections was Stewart Bryant, and they formed an amazing relationship that my brother cherished during his stay. Week by week I would check in with my brother while he was at Reflections, and just hearing him progressively become more clear-headed, alert, deeply reflecting, emotionally available and vulnerable and willing to speak about everything, working through foundational issues in his life, being more optimistic and committed to his sobriety - it was so profoundly encouraging to see the signs of his work at Reflections really taking root. For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important. There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time. Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules. Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed. Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you. If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor. Every package you get will be inspected. For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches. You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed. Hide your stash. People steal Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it. You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you. Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. Jessica B 2 months ago I was there a little more than 4 years ago. I was withdrawing from a super heavy Xanax addiction. The withdrawal was the scariest thing that I've ever been through but they used medically assisted treatment to taper me off. I went through hell and back but they almost got me through it. Luckily they knew how to treat me. They sent me to the mental health department when things got really bad and then I came back for the rest of my treatment. The groups and counselors are great and very informative and educational. The nurses on the other hand were horrible and didnt understand what was happening with me during withdrawal. I told them I was hallucinating and scared and didn't know where I was in the middle of the night but they just told me to go back to my room. I begged for help and was scared to death but they wouldn't help me. They ended up transporting me to mental health when I was blacked out and out of control.
