A Love Letter to the Place That Saved My Life
There are no words big enough, no thank-yous deep enough, to fully express what this place has given me. Walking through the doors of this rehab, I was not just broken—I was gone. A shell. An echo of the person I used to be. I didn’t come in with hope; I came in with desperation. I had burned bridges, lost myself, and forgotten what it meant to truly live. But this place… this place gave me everything back—and more.
From day one, the staff treated me not as a case or a number, but as a soul worth saving. They didn’t judge my past. They held space for my pain, gently guiding me out of the shadows I’d been lost in for so long. They reminded me that I wasn’t just addicted—I was hurting, I was human, and I was still worthy of love.
The counselors weren’t just professionals—they were warriors, walking with us every step, sometimes carrying us when we couldn’t carry ourselves. They challenged us. Believed in us. Cried with us. Laughed with us. Celebrated every tiny victory like it was the Super Bowl. Because in recovery, those victories are everything.
I learned how to feel again. How to breathe. How to forgive myself. I learned that recovery isn’t just about saying no to a substance—it’s about saying yes to life. Yes to family. Yes to morning sunlight and belly laughs and long talks and second chances. I got my smile back here. I got my future back.
I will never forget the people I met here—the late-night talks in the common room, the moments of raw, unscripted honesty, the way complete strangers became family. We cheered each other on. We picked each other up. We healed together. That kind of bond doesn’t fade.
Today, I am sober. I am strong. I am healing. But most importantly—I am here. And I owe that to this sacred place that saw light in me when I could only see darkness.
If you are wondering if this is the place for you, let me say this from the deepest part of my heart: it is. Let this be the start of your miracle, like it was mine.
Thank you, from the bottom of my soul. You didn’t just save my life—you gave me a reason to live it.
Forever grateful,
Cynthia Madison

🌟 A Love Letter to the Place That Helped Me Begin Again 🌟
I don’t know if words will ever fully express what this place means to me — but I’ll try.
When I walked through those doors, I was exhausted. Not just tired — spiritually winded. I was carrying the weight of choices, shame, fear, and the echo of my own voice asking, “Will I ever be whole again?”
And then something happened.
A team of the most compassionate, professional, beautifully human beings I’ve ever met welcomed me — not like a patient, but like a person. Like someone worth fighting for. From the nurses to the counselors, the kitchen staff to the therapists, the front desk to the housekeeping — each one of them carried light into my darkest moments.
They didn’t judge. They didn’t push. They walked with me — step by step — back into myself.
Every group, every one-on-one, every conversation over coffee, every morning reflection… it rebuilt me. They didn’t just treat addiction here — they treated the person beneath it. They reminded me I was still in there, still breathing, still capable of joy, laughter, strength, and purpose.
And yes, I laughed. I cried. I healed. I grew.
If you’re reading this and you’re afraid — please come. If you think it won’t work for you — come anyway. If you believe you’re too broken — you’re not. I promise. I thought that too. And now, by the grace of this place and the hearts that run it, I have hope again.
To the staff: I will never forget you. You saved my life — not just my body, but my soul. I carry your voices with me, your strength, your faith in me even when I didn’t have it myself.
You gave me more than sobriety. You gave me myself back.
Thank you. Forever.
— With all my heart,
[A Grateful Human Being]

Wow, words can't even describe how amazing this facility/program is. I attended here from March 2024-July 2024. I entered this treatment program with almost 9 years of sobriety, and I had reached a place mentally where I felt like I did when I used to get high. I was full of anxiety, couldn't function at work, and was a complete mess. This place got me in so quickly, and immediately I was met with open arms by staff who you could tell ACTUALLY CARE. I've worked in the drug alcohol field for many years, and I've found this is hard to come by.The program itself is wonderful. The group facilitators are knowledgable and I found most groups to be very helpful/interesting. The groups I didn't like were not a reflection of the program in anyway, more so a reflection of myself and where I was at experiencing them.My individual therapist Carolena was amazing, never once did I feel judged, and she always made me feel safe. She challenged me and asked me uncomfortable questions and helped walk me through the stages of life that I was in at the time.My individual case manager Britt was AMAZING AMAZING. She was the first person I met, and held my hand throughout the entire process, guiding me through insurance/disability, answering all my questions, wonderful amazing individual sessions where she provided me with many tools, and just overall an amazing caring genuine knowledgable person. SHE DESERVES A RAISE!!!! lol.I had the pleasure of meeting individually with one of the therapy interns Chloe. She got me to open up about stuff I hadn't talked about in years. I will miss our sessions. The community of clients at Inneractions is diverse and I loved hearing everyone's different stories of how they ended up at Inneractions. We all come from so many different walks of life, but together we were fighting the same fight, and the amount of support I received from my peers there helped so much. It felt so good to celebrate others successes with them. All the other staff at Inneractions was wonderful as well. And I have to mention them as well.Joe is the glue who holds the place together and runs a solid ship there. The clinical director Loree helped me out when I needed it! Which I'm so grateful for.Facilitators like Demarcus, Shane, Rick, Kathy, and many more I could name who are all wonderful.Mike the case manger I have to give a shout out to as well for always chatting with me during smoke breaks. I always looked forward to our daily conversations about basketball.Overall, this is an amazing treatment program. They are completely transparent about all financials, care about their clients, and provide more QUALITY/Personlized treatment then you will receive at "Luxury" treatment centers most commonly found in Malibu. If you're struggling with addiction/mental health, then this is the place for you. They saved my life when I was in an extremely dark/scary place, and I am eternally grateful.Thank you so much for helping me heal!

I went through the intensive outpatient program at Iris for help with my mental health and substance abuse issues and had an extremely positive experience . The staff there genuinely cares , are very professional and want to see you succeed . What stood out to me about Iris are the services available other than the group and individual therapy sessions . Iris Healing was such a transformative experience for me. All of the staff were amazing. The therapists were all incredible. The chef took impeccable care of my diet, especially because I am type one diabetic. Also, there were many snacks to enjoy anytime you wanted. As well as the facility would provide anything you wanted for food, per your recommendation, no questions asked. The yoga on the rooftop was unbelievably amazing and the yoga teacher amazing. The meditations taught me so much and having our energy read by drawing stones and fairy cards and speaking to us holistically really gave me so much that I ve taken with me on my treatment journey. Each room was so comfortable each having its own TV to enjoy whatever you wanted on your off time With very well, taken care of bathrooms that were also great. Great walk in closets too. The house was huge and very comfortable. The backyard was exquisite with many areas to meditate or do yoga or enjoy the pool or just sit and enjoy the California weather underneath a beautiful bougainvillea. Also many meetings or therapy sessions were held outside if you were comfortable. The whole experience, the home, the people that took care of me, the outings, everything was a five star experience that led me with great success on my healing journey. The holistic approach taught me that there was more than just AA to my healing. Of my treatment experiences I ve had Iris Healing was by far the best decision I ve made for myself and exceeds everything.

I was at OPI for 197 Days and I am happy to say that It was the best decision that I have made with my life. I learned so much from how to make some amazing friends to how to make an accurate budget with my life coach Spencer.Spencer is one of the best. He's not always by the book and helps one get to the bottom of things happening in every day life. His goal for each client is to have them as ready as possible and as prepared for what's to come tomorrow as can be. Not to brag but I also had one of the best therapists in OPI. Ali G is a fun, confident, wicked smart woman who always left me with something new to think about. She gives some of the strangest interventions I have ever had in my life but I promise if one gives it a try it's so worth it. Her goal is to work with you on your problem areas and get you to a point of feeling confident in those areas as well.Everyone at OPI is someone that is always going to be willing to work with you no matter what. From the drivers to the ILS staff and beyond. Trust them to know what they are doing and keep an open mind when it comes to problem solving at the apartments. The outings and activities that I was lucky enough to have the privilege of going on were always fun. For Halloween I had the privilege of going to Halloween Horror Nights, one of the best nights of my life. Chilling with other clients and getting to know them is always one of the best parts of any day. If you choose OPI keep in mind the memories you will make because It will certainty be a story to tell.If you need to work on your mental health, addiction, or just want a better life for yourself, I recommend OPI 100%. Thank you to everyone that got me through my journey I honestly can't wait to find out what happens next!

My son was at this center for 6 weeks and made more progress in that time than he has in 6 years of counseling. I found the majority of the staff to be professional and compassionate. There were a couple of issues with some of the RC's that upset him and me, but I spoke with the director and I know that those things have been addressed. Overall, I will recommend this program to anyone who asks. There is no such thing as perfection in therapy. Everyone has their own process. I am a counselor, I had all the energy in the world for my son, I gave him every resource I could think of and it was not enough. He got exactly what he needed from his time at Evolve. He has been home for about 6 weeks now, and I could not be happier with his responses to life. His counselor, Stephanie, helped him in ways that no one else has been able to. I am eternally grateful for everything. The only other thing that I would add is that if you are thinking of sending your child to Evolve, follow through. If they participate and you participate, you will likely get the results you are looking for. Be honest around your child's needs and don't hesitate to let the counselors or director know if something is not working, in my experience they will do all that they can to make the appropriate changes.

I completed my treatment at Enlight Treatment Center a year ago, and it was a truly transformative experience. When I first arrived, I was dealing with the aftermath of a broken jaw and the emotional scars from being tortured at a fake detox center, which left me terrified to trust anyone. The staff at Enlight went above and beyond to accommodate my needs, ensuring I received the best care possible.Understanding my dietary restrictions due to the injury, the chef prepared special meals that were easy for me to consume, allowing me to focus on healing without worrying about nutrition. This attention to detail and compassion made a significant difference in my recovery journey. The comprehensive care I received included a tailored treatment plan addressing both my substance use issues and the emotional challenges I faced. The staff's genuine compassion and understanding helped me slowly rebuild trust and feel safe in my environment. Their dual-diagnosis approach was instrumental in helping me manage co-occurring mental health conditions and regain control over my life.I am especially thankful for their expertise in helping me get clean off Suboxone, which was a significant milestone in my recovery journey. The caring environment at Enlight made all the difference, providing me with the support and encouragement I needed to overcome my fears and embrace a new chapter in life.Reflecting on the past year, I am incredibly grateful for the foundation Enlight Treatment Center provided, enabling me to overcome not only my addiction but also the physical and emotional hurdles I faced upon arrival. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking compassionate and comprehensive care.-Nik

I cannot give enough praise to Rise in Malibu. My son was recently admitted for the 30 day alcoholism program. With great fear and hesitation he was soon talking with Allison in admissions. Her unbelievable patience, knowledge, unmatched kindness, and long phone calls, gave him the reassurance he needed to get on the plane.Upon arrival to LAX there was another team member waiting for him at the baggage carousel. He was a recovered alcoholic and really understood the hesitation being experienced by my son. How wonderful to have that real life encouragement, even before walking in the front door.Upon arrival he met all the wonderful staff that he appreciated were non judgmental, which was very important to him. Each staff member took time to really get to know him, so they could develop a personal treatment plan to meet his specific needs. He participated in group, individual and spiritual counseling. The painting activity uncovered a talent that he did not know he had. The group meals, activities, gym time and outings allowed positive and supportive friendships to develop.I visited about two weeks in and met most of the staff. Every person was as wonderful as he had said they were. It was then I learned that all the staff members have recovered from their own addiction. That explains their kind, understanding and unrelenting devotion to helping others.During my visit he showed me around and introduced me to the staff like they were all his family. He was proud of his progress and finally believing in recovery. I saw happiness in him for the first time in many years. He continues to reach out to team members when there is a bump in the road. Having that ability has truly kept him on the right path. He is now in sober living with sobriety a realistic outcome, for the first time in 20 years. I am forever grateful to Rise in Malibu!

An absolute gem!!The home is stunning with individual spacious rooms, infinity pool, and view of the ocean for starters. My experience with the admissions team of Lori and Berkeley was a great start as I did not, for one minute, feel pressured. The staff, comprised of Masters level and Doctorate clinicians provide the most comprehensive treatment this industry has to offer. The one on one attention you receive here is unbelievable. I had 90+ sessions in a 30 day stay. My Primary Therapist Dr Nisha, my case manager Ellie, Trauma Therapist Michael, IFS and Neurobiology with Dr Mark, Massage and relaxation with Sam, LMFT Gina and Heather, Breathwork/Reiki/Yoga with Cat, Personal Trainer Luke, Nursing with Shari and Paige, Spiritual Counseling with Gina and Beth, 5 star Chefs Jake, Cameron, Bryce and Amanda, Support staff Nam, Art with Noku, all provided the care I desperately needed at this most vulnerable moment in my life. And I need to mention that the CEO Patrick is amazing and he meets every client with a smile and some hope.If you are needing help, look no further and come to Rise in Malibu. You will be overjoyed you did!!

Just finished treatment at WVDT and in the beginning (as per usual whenever anyone is kicking anything hard) I was hostile, isolated and resistant to the treatment. I came in on NYE 24 from Miami, FL and by day 4 I needed to go to the hospital, they made the decision and when I was done I returned to finish my 28 days of treatment. I am very thankful for everything and everyone there, I have never been more clean in my life since I began using in 2020. One of the workers Mariah, shared her story with me in the beginning of my stay and one thing she said really resonated with me. "I just stayed, and I listened" and for my duration I just grasped onto that. I stayed, I listened, and I got my life back. They also assist you with post-treatment planning, whether that's PHP, Sober living, IOP, etc. They make sure you have all the tools you need so once you're discharged it'll be a smooth transition for you. Everyone there was knowledgeable and had some type of first hand experience in what you're actually going through. Some notable shoutouts include Austin, Mariah, Beau, Emmanuel, Malika and Jordan. The Private Chef there too is amazing. For going through what was the toughest time in my life, I will never forget my month there. Thanks Everyone!

This was the best recovery experience! This was not my first time in treatment and I thought that I knew what to expect. The groups were small and intimate. The staff and other clients were caring, empathetic, open minded and friendly. I was introduced to Smart Recovery which is a great alternative to 12 step programs. We attended 12 Step meetings as well. All the techs and counselors were committed to my success. My therapist Stephanie is a great listener! She heard my concerns and was able to present other perspectives that I hadn t thought of. The chef, Dean is a fabulous cook! Dustin, Evan, Leslie, Sam, Brittany, America were all essential in this process. They are all proof that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety but connection!

My experience at The Canyons was life changing. Antonio and his team of therapists, support groups and staff are all wonderful to work with and truly care about your recovery and well being. I have had other experiences in recovery and have never come out with a more solid foundation and hope for the future than I have since leaving the canyon. The Canyon was the turning point in my sobriety journey. As a gay man, it was crucial for me to find treatment that focused on addressing addiction itself rather than its symptoms, such as sex or objectification. The inclusive and affirming environment at The Canyon provided exactly that.I am deeply grateful for the unwavering dedication of Antonio, Franchesca, and the entire staff, who helped guide me from a place of hopelessness to healing. Completing the program has transformed my perspective I now see the world through a lens of abundance and am committed to helping others in their recovery journey.A special shoutout to Michaelis and Kelani for their incredible support throughout this process.
