I have been here for almost 4 months and have been through all programs by this point. When I got here I was met by friendly faces when being brought into detox. My husband has been doing sober coaching with Mario since he completed rehab at Mountainside. Mario keeps him accountable while fostering a strong relationship built on a foundation of trust. Mario keeps it real with both my husband and me with his humor and humility. He checks in with me weekly and reminds me his phone is always on for me. He approaches the difficult road of recovery with dignity for the client, compassion for the family, and respect for the process. He shares his own personal stories and experiences. Mario is deeply invested and loves what he does. I could not have gotten through these last few months without him, and my husband continues to make growth in this partnership. Professional, personal, tailor-made individualistic programming. Very much a family atmosphere. Once you settle in, you will never want to leave. If I could live at Eden Hill, I would do it in a heartbeat. The term “staff” doesn’t adequately do justice to the Team of people who run and work at , Eden Hill in all capacities.They are personable, accommodating in anyway possible and loving. It is not possible to leave Eden Hill without feeling like your family has gained a few unofficial members. The accommodations are fabulous and newly renovated. Therapeutic communal living helped me to increase individual personal responsibility while at the same time learning to live with and compromise (perhaps for the first time) With my housemates. The clients form a bond that is therapeutic and supportive. We learn to hold each other accountable for their actions in recovery and other communal living issues in a kind and, if necessary, mediated way. Some of the tools I left with we’re effective communication, the development and use of boundaries, healthy confrontation (or “care-frontation”) and how to be a part of the solution instead of the problem. Most importantly I learned humility. I learned the world does not revolve around me and that to be successful in recovery and life, I need a support network which required working on my relationship skills. My circumstances did not allow me to participate in the family recovery events; however, I witnessed my peers and their families participate with what appeared to be excellent results. The Town-of Canaan is small, safe, charming, and has a large recovery network suitable for all ages. I have known many people that have gone through Mountainside treatment center in Canaan and then followed treatment at the extended care facility of Eden Hill Recovery Retreat in Canaan that have decided to remain in the area due to the Active and varied recovery community. Additionally, many of these individuals are still clean and sober and moving on with their lives. I myself am considering relocating to the Canaan area at some point in the near future for the above stated reasons. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Eden Hill is like a second home to me which I will forever remember as a very necessary, nurturing, and healing time. I have met some of the most wonderful, loving women in situations much the same as my own that I will forever treasure as sisters and friends On a journey you couldn’t possibly understand unless you’ve been on it too. He was in such a bad place when we dropped him off and each time we saw him (either virtually or in person) we kept seeing more and more of him coming back to life. When he first got there, there was a ton of support offered for us parents - they offered us an orientation type of introduction to the program (virtually because we were 3 hours away). We had family sessions every week and were given the opportunity to have them in person, which we did every other session so that we would get to see him and the therapist in person. It was his birthday while he was there and his family therapist was able to schedule an in person session on his birthday, so we could see him and give him a hug on his birthday. The entire experience was amazing, between the therapists who were helping both us and our son and the psychiatrist that worked with him the entire time that he was there to get his meds correct. There was also a person who kept an eye on our insurance, making sure that his stay was covered the entire time he was there. All of them were great at communicating back with us to keep us up to date on his progress and status. My son struggled a bit after coming home from Newport, but the foundation that they established with him and the work that he did at Newport with his mental health has helped him to be fully sober for over a year now. He just graduated from high school the other day and to be honest, I didn't think that was possible before he went to Newport. I would highly recommend Newport to anyone that is considering in patient treatment for their child. The comprehensive treatment that they offer, as well as the kind, knowledgable and supportive staff is all a big reason for that. One of the most important lessons we learned came from Parker’s therapist, Catherine, who taught us to “be comfortable in the uncomfortable.” Recovery isn’t easy, and growth doesn’t happen overnight. Newport helped us understand that healing often comes through working through difficult moments rather than avoiding them. Our “Shift Happens” moment came when we stopped focusing on how long the process would take and started focusing on small daily victories. Instead of looking for one big breakthrough, we learned to appreciate the little signs of progress—better communication, improved confidence, healthier choices, and a willingness to keep trying. As a parent, I realized my job was not to fix everything immediately. My role was to support, encourage, and believe in my daughter while she did the work herself. That change in perspective gave our family hope and allowed us to recognize just how much progress was happening along the way. The therapists, academic staff, and residential team genuinely cared about Parker and challenged her to grow while supporting her every step of the way. We are especially grateful for the guidance, structure, and compassion shown to our family throughout the process. Wellspring challenges the residents to step up as members of a community and be accountable for how their actions impact those around them. the plant & animal program there offers the residents a chance to pour love into other living creatures, helping mirror the love they are capable of pouring into themselves. There are many challenges at any treatment facility, but I truly believe that Wellspring navigates those challenges better than most places. Not everyone leaves healed, for many its just the beginning of their journey. Many of the girls I was there with continued to struggle upon leaving, but we all reflect on what we learned at Wellspring with love and appreciation. It may not be for everyone but that doesn't discount the healing it has offered to countless families. No place is perfect but my family and I will forever be grateful for Wellspring. Julia Ohara 2 months ago I highly recommend the residential Adolescent Intensive Program (AIP) at Wellspring CT to anyone looking for a healing, loving, intentional program focused on helping teenage females recover from -- or at least cope with -- anxiety, depression, and trauma. I'll start by saying I'm a parent, not a resident, but I checked with my daughter (P.) and she agrees with everything I say in this review. P. has struggled for years with depression and anxiety, and we tried various other programs before Wellspring. None of the other programs we checked out worked for us or for P. We have been very wary of residential programs because of everything we're read about the troubled teen industry (TTI). The difference between Wellspring and other programs lies in the genuine care provided by Wellspring staff, combined with a peaceful and beautiful living environment in which residents are given time and space to rediscover some joy in the world. Key to all of this are the wonderful people who work with the residents. The director of Wellspring AIP, Joe Mancione, sets the tone for the entire program. He clearly genuinely cares for the residents he's working with. You have absolutely no sense that Joe or his team are in it for the money (unlike so many other programs we considered). P. has worked with a bunch of therapists, but we've never seen anyone come close to Joee in terms of connection, insight, and ability. His ability to lovingly challenge negative thoughts and emotions is breathtaking to observe, and P. truly flourished under his care. Every staff member working with Joe in the program was honestly wonderful: gentle, caring, real. The residents live together in a big old farmhouse, surrounded by beautiful grounds. They cook together, clean, take responsibility for caring for farm animals (goats, chickens, a rabbit), play games, make music, meditate. The environment is one of calm beauty, and it was possible to watch new residents slowly come to the realization they were somewhere safe where they start to heal again. If this all sounds a bit new-agey, I'd also say that the staff are all highly trained and very intentional in the environment they create. They really do know what they are doing. If, like us, you despaired of ever finding a residential program that is genuinely caring and healing, take a look at Wellspring. P. and I are so happy that we did! Julian Aiken 5 months ago I was here from 1992-1994, wellspring made me feel safe and cared for, my therapist Joe B was amazing, so caring and understanding, and the staff specifically Heather and Andy were like role models for many of us...I learned so much here, how to care for animals, and garden. We went on trips, Cape Cod being my favorite and did things I never would have been able to do if it wasn't for Wellspring. I feel grateful to be in this place. 7 years ago Doctor Clark doesn't know how to communicate at all. She gave me a ADHD extended release medication , and when I asked her to lower the dose or take me off the extended release because it was too high, she refused. Now shes trying to prescribe me anxiety meds for my ADHD. As far as the counseling goes, all of the counselors are excellent and have helped me allot. If u want counseling for your ADHD, I'd definitely recommend coming here. As far as the doctor, I'd go elsewhere. James Payne 7 years ago

Austen Riggs changed my life. I was admitted in May of 2024, convinced I had nothing to live for and nobody who cared about me. I was suggested Riggs after being turned down from numerous hospitals and programs for having “too complex of a case.” Over the course of 8 months, I learned about myself and my impact on others in ways I had never before. My cohort of people who were admitted around the same time was very supportive, and we still keep in touch today, but I can definitely see how if the community isn’t a fit then Riggs won’t be a fit. Sure there was drama (some more serious than others), but you have to remember that you’re living in a large community of people with trauma and complicated mental health struggles. The only major downside is how expensive it is. I was extremely lucky that my insurance covered about 60% of my treatment, but I felt guilty the entire time I was there about how much my family was investing into me financially. The cost is widely talked about in group sessions and is commonly a major stressor for people, distracting from what brought them in in the first place. It’s now been almost a year since I left and my life is on a trajectory I never thought was possible. I am clean and sober, haven’t had a mental health crisis since leaving, and no longer fit a significant amount of diagnostic criteria for what I was diagnosed with. Making the commitment to treatment saved my life❤️ Leah G. 6 months ago Places of this kind are not easily quantifiable in 5 star ratings. But if I had to gove it a rating as simple as this, I give it 5. I was there for a year, and did out-patient for a couole of years after that. This place was a hard place to be because it was where Ibhad to confront myself -- but the tools they imparted to me and the care I received helped me save my life. I am indebted to them and believe im the work they do. Very much so. There are few open-setting hospitals around, and among mental hospitals Riggs is truly unique. It may not be for everyone, but I recommend it very very highly. I feel lucky to have been there. And I am certain that I would not be living a full, productive life now had it not been for them. People may skeptical about all of this but I am sure it has a positive impact. I had an actual team of professionals composed of a therapist, a therapy group, a case manager, a psychiatrist, and a very kind nurse.
