I would like to share some thoughts about Mountainside and especially our sons recovery coach Christina.
Following his completion of a 28 day in-patient program with another provider he enrolled at Mountainside Chappaqua. He is in their Outside Patient and Recovery Coaching programs. Our son and Christina have been working together for about five months. They talk daily and meet weekly. A few weeks into the program Christina began doing weekly calls with my wife and me.
Our son works with various therapists, clinicians and other staff at Mountainside. He is complimentary of the entire organization and their contribution in helping him understand his addiction and providing recovery support. My wife and I only work with Christina.
Christina is EXCELLENT. She balances professional counseling, insight, accountability, great communication skills and timely follow-up. Having walked this life herself she is highly skilled and relatable but it’s never about her. Christina cares. She has built valued trust with all of is. My wife’s and my weekly calls provide an update on his progress and any open issues. She reminds us that he is accountable for his own recovery and keeps us in our lane. Most important she has helped keep our sons recovery moving positively forward day after day.

While there are always flaws no matter where you go, it's not a one-size-fits-all. I have personally witnessed for four years many people succeed who are committed to changing their lives.
Truth is you have to not only want it but also be willing to work for it. There comes a point in an addict's life where they will do anything to change their circumstances and patterns of behavior that led to their current state, and those are the clients that succeed at Odyssey, or anywhere else.

I was so lost and giving up on life and a few good suggestions brought me here. Everyone from the friar in charge of the inn to security and maintenance made me feel welcome. The counselors are the best I’ve ever dealt with. My counselor was amazing, the physco therapist helped me realize things on my own and a former resident who is now staff related to my issues making me comfortable with the process. That guy was a godsend. These people helped me with my addiction issues more in 6 months then I’ve been able to do over the last 30 years. Since there, in 2017, I had one slip up about a year after I graduated, but that was almost 8 years ago now. Since then, I went to welding school, they set me up in a halfway house in NYC, moved back home to Rochester, NY. SHOUT OUT to the staff here..I have been to many many rehabs, and there is something different about these people, and this place..they are in my opinion, Earth Angels. No judgement, they really just want to help and are good humans! Also, the way they go about treatment, I felt really cared about , from the 1st day. I need a higher level of treatment but I will be going to Outpatient there after..
I can't recommend this place enough. They have no hard chairs that your ass goes numb from sitting in for hours, they have leather, lazy boy chairs, in the entire place, they have a quite room where you can rest if you are detoxing or dont feel good, they feed you great food, they have snacks and sodas and I was literally told "think of this place as your home away from home" and from the clinical staff, the nursing staff, the Dr., they're all special people. xoxoxoxo

While attending a program at the Harlem Parish next door, my mother of 91 had an non-emergency, urgent situation. We entered the facility not knowing what to expect. We were greeted with upmost respect and kindness. From the security detail at the door to the 2 receptionists at the window, these wonderful people worked collectively to get us what we need to attend the program comfortably. I am so thankful for the kindness and compassion that was extended to us.

I will be forever grateful to the people who work and operate this treatment center. The entire staff, most of whom are in recovery, showed sincere care towards the clients. Ryan, who runs their adventure program, takes the group through amazing bonding and skill-building exercises. The education they provide is relevant and the skills they teach are applicable. They provided me with more than enough in order to begin my recovery and I still apply the things I learned. Great place.

I’ve unfortunately been to many rehabs in my years of active addiction, but I can’t say nothing bad about The Ranch this place was truly Top Tier. If you gave this place a bad review it’s truly because something is wrong within yourself. From the day I walked in until the day I left the staff actually treated me like a normal human being and not just another person. I couldn’t be happier!!!

I had taken my 79 year old mother to the emergency room as she was having a stroke. Ms Arlene the RN That was on call approximately at 10 pm informed me in an extremely rude manner that I cannot go with my mother to wait outside for her while having a CT Scan. I informed her that I was aware. She was extremely rude to my mother and father and said that I cannot stay with my mother when they admitted her after the doctor told me that I was allowed to stay with her. My father informed her in a kind manner that the doctor allowed me to stay with my mother. I asked her to please not have an attitude with us because this is a very sensitive situation and time. She said for me to bring down my attitude first. She was extremely unprofessional and began provoking me as I asked to speak with her supervisor. She was yelling in the hallway and said the manager was over there. As I was walking to accompany my mother to her room she began to roll her eyes and stare at me. I have never been in such an unprofessional environment at such a serious and vital time. It's heartbreaking that a nurse could be so rude and cold hearted toward someone who is in such a serious condition as my mother. She was very disrespectful and unprofessional. I hope that no other patient ever has to be treated in such a horrible manner. I am a licensed master social worker and the way that we were treated was horrible. Its unethical and she should be reprimanded for her unprofessional behavior. It was unbelievable the way she carried on in the emergency room.

I delivered my daughter under the care of Dr. Blackburn, and my experience with her was extremely disappointing. Throughout my labor, she made comments that were rude, unhelpful, and completely inappropriate for someone in her position. She repeatedly told me I “wasn’t pushing right” and to “push harder,” without offering real guidance or support. I also overheard her telling the nurses to only call her “when the head is out” and questioning why they kept calling her if I “wasn’t going to push correctly.” Hearing that during labor was discouraging and unprofessional.
She even entered the room at times while eating, which made me feel like she wasn’t taking my delivery seriously. When she stretched my cervix, it felt very aggressive, and she didn’t communicate or prepare me for what she was doing.
After I delivered my daughter, I tore and needed stitches. When I told her I could feel the needle and that it really hurt, she dismissed me completely and told me it was “all in my head” and that it “doesn’t hurt.” Being in that vulnerable moment and having my pain minimized was incredibly upsetting.
The only person who truly supported me during this experience was my nurse, Velda. She stood by my side the entire time, was kind, patient, and genuinely helpful. She did more for me than the actual doctor, and I’m very grateful for her care.
This was a major moment in my life, and instead of feeling supported by my doctor, I felt dismissed and talked down to. Patients deserve better, especially during childbirth. I hope this feedback leads to improved professionalism, communication, and compassion for future patients.
