First off Anthony and mike at reception are AMAZING, Anthony knows his job better then any receptionist ive ever talked to, and mike holds it down so no fights or belligerent people come in. Then curtis, he might not be your best friend, you might even kinda hate him but no matter how you feel or what you do curtis will help you, but listen he will not take no BS i tried lol. Then the new director steve whos been there a month or 2, i dont know him to well but from what i can see, he know his job well, hes very calm mannered and truly want to help people, hes a good guy. And the councilors got a pretty fast turn around i think ive had 10 different councilors there some bad some good, but under steve and curtis leadership the last few months i was there i kept getting impressed by the councilors, i had trevor when i left, and hes is awesome, again his main goal is to help you, hes there more of a friend rather then a authority figure but hes always pushing you to do better without holding onto your mistakes, the best thing is i was able to be 100% honest with him and not once did he say anything to make things hard, he listens to ya pushes you to do better then trys to find any resource you might need to be successful, AMAZING staff. This comes from the guy who has cussed out half of the staff too. I really try to not let things get to me but unfortunately I have had confrontation with the past 3 head directors there to the point of me saying things I wish I hadn't but the patients and ability to actually listen is incredible here. Like with me getting dope sick and cussing Curtis out he holds his cool, holds his ground and sat with me until we both were happy with the outcome, and its crazy, your really mad about some bs, you go and try to compain then start cussing but when its over the people you were fighting and that you thought dont give a crap ends up being more of a friend there ya know. After fighting curtis every time i saw him its hey man whats up, not holding grudges, making crap hard instead its curtis saying i hope things are getting better, if they are hes happy and goes on, if not he wil offer to sit with you and clear it up. this happened multiple times (im sorry Curtis ) I had a councler who was new and was trying but honestly was the worst listener and worst councilor I've had, I tried for weeks to get switched and it ended with me talking to curtis and that crappy councilor in a room and me explaining to this guy how to listen to a person when they talk, I told him to his face I dont like you and want nothing to do with you. Again saving grace Curtis comes and after that meeting with him things got better after 2 weeks then that councilor disappeared (not fired im pretty sure he just got a job elsewhere). Im just saying this to let any one know that if you go here the staff will hold there ground with what they have to do but they will also go to bat for you any time you need. Every staff member I had confrontation with, ended with a pretty good outlook on each other rather then what normally happen every where else l, after a incident they hold grudges against you and make things hard till you leave. Again this place after 7 years I would recommend. Im living in salinas and for the first month or 2 I drove to fresno to get my weekly bottles until I was set in monterey county. This place won't do everything you want but they will do EVERYTHING In there power to help. Anthony, steve, Trevor, curtis, mike, and everyone else ESPECIALLY the nurses, Mia is amazing nurse, lin knew everything but a little slow, Renee always has answers for anything you have and i cant believe I lost the last nurse name at windows 3. Sandy has been the most stable person I’ve had during my entire life going through recovery, and I don’t think I would be here today if it wasn’t for her. He'll have you feeling well weeks before any other methadone doc in Fresno. As for the counselors, some are great and a few are more harmful than helpful. She took the time to listen to my concerns and made me feel truly cared for and understood. It’s rare to find someone so patient and compassionate in healthcare. They assign u to a counselor as soon as u arrive and they have classes to help teach u and understand how to cope with it. Going into the program u have to surrender yourself to change, they have resources to help u get on your feet & become a productive member of society. the biggest plus was the food on occasion and being able to bring my daughter as it is open to mothers and children. The biggest minus where no social passes so u are not allowed to go out of the facility unless u have an appt & also being in pending ( isolation) for the first 5 days from my understanding these changes occured due to covid so they are trying to keep us safe other then that it's probably one of the best facilities to come too. 🤗 elizabeth meraz 6 months ago I am truly grateful for WestCare and the staff while I was there. I want to say that they have a phenomenal program set in place for people who are seeking lifelong sobriety. If you are serious about your recovery and your program, then WestCare in my opinion, is a great place to start! I completed my program in December of 2023 and because of the guidance and tools I was given at WestCare, I remain clean today. I have 20 months and am an active member of the NA program. I am full Native with a white husband and we've only ever been treated like family here by every single staff memeber. My tribe isn't even from California but can you imagine my complete shock when I overheard a staff member speaking Diné Bizáád? I thought I was having hallucinations from being so homesick. I actually cried hearing this woman speak our language and to even call me names I have not heard in years. This wonderful woman was going around referring to each person there as 'shíyazhí' and 'shíwee'. 'My children', 'my babies'. [In our language and matriarichal culture, polite familial terms are exclusively used. Regardless of age, all women are referred to as 'my little mother' and women in the tribe are taught to refer to everyone as 'my child', 'my little one, 'my baby'.] They've been here for us in the most awful times to make sure we're getting the proper care for everything. They make sure we're aware of all sorts of helpful programs, tribal and non-tribal. They've helped us with food, eyeglasses, they helped us register our dogs as emotional support animals and made sure we had the proper paperwork, they've helped with transportation to appointments multiple times a week and when we badly neglected our health for nearly a year... They welcomed us back and got us right back on track. These people have gone to bat for me so many times, even when I'M the one whose made a mistake or misunderstood something. Every person involved in my care has done this. When I say everyone, I do mean everyone. When my husband was hit by a drunk driver and I witnessed it, I could not remember for the life of me what medication he was allergic to. I called here a complete wreck and could barely speak from being in shock but Johnette was so sweet and ON IT, she looked up the medication and wished me best while saying she'd pray for me before the ambulance even arrived at the scene. Nearly four years later and to this day, there are employees who remember us and what we've been through and they still make sure we're taken care of. They made sure I got a therapist and psychiatrist and worked so hard for me during this time too. And lastly, when we sought help for alcohol and drug addiction, this was the only place and doctor willing to take us and help us seek help at a place like MedMark. When my husband was released with no pain medication and Aegis refused to help him because he had a tracheostomy, we were freaking out and had no idea what to do but our doctor here at the time was so reassuring. She researched places, called them, asked questions and made sure we'd 100% be accepted there so no time would be wasted and said to call her if there were any more problems. He runs groups and also does one-on-one therapy. He helps people worry less by using the idea of an upward spiral vs a downward spiral, and asks practical questions like how long we actually want to worry about something and whether the worry makes sense for that amount of time. He also does something called “check the facts,” where we break down an activating event, how it made us feel, the thoughts we had, the interpretations and stories we told ourselves, and the roles we placed on ourselves and others. Then we look at what actually happened versus our interpretation, decide how we want to feel, what need would be met by feeling that way, and then check in with our feelings again afterward. He also talks a lot about noticing emotions in the body, which was really helpful. We were invited to the gym and rec room daily. The gym had basketball, ping pong, bowling, tennis, exercise equipment, and more. The rec room had paint, coloring pages, word searches, nail polish, and bracelet making. Once a week they did karaoke, and another day they did bingo — the prizes were things like deodorant and socks, which honestly made me laugh. We weren’t allowed to go outside, and there was almost no music except for about an hour once a week. The food was actually really good — healthy, veggie-filled, and they accommodated vegan diets. The vegan meals were healthy too, which I really appreciated. Overall, this stay was a positive experience for me, especially because of the therapy and activities offered.
