About the Facility

Teen Challenge Women’s Ministries of Tennessee is a residential, faith based addiction treatment facility for adult women in Knoxville, Tennessee. They also treat women who are struggling with a range of co-occurring, life changing issues, such as depression, abuse, and eating disorders. The program is free for qualifying clients.

The center is spread out across a few different buildings, including a house, administrative office, cafeteria, and classroom. In 2017, they gave the location a makeover by adding all new floors, appliances, paint, and landscaping. While they live here, the women can focus on working through the issues that have led to their drug and alcohol addictions. They’ll attend Bible studies, visit the chapel, and participate in on site activities like choir practice to develop healthy habits and life skills.

Most women stay in the program for 13 months. The goal is to help them become well on a mental, physical, and spiritual level so they can live fulfilling, drug free lives. That’s why there’s a work study component to the program, too. While the women won’t be required to leave the facility to work at a job, they are expected to help out around the house. This might include taking care of basic administrative tasks, doing the laundry, cleaning up the living spaces, and helping out with basic maintenance projects.

One past client called this program a great place to reclaim control of your life.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a treatable condition characterized by uncontrolled consumption of alcohol which continues despite negative consequences. Treatment options for alcohol addiction include inpatient or outpatient alcohol rehab in Tennessee. Therapeutic methods include group and individual therapy, medication, and holistic therapies. Aftercare is often provided through 12-step support groups, which offer ongoing accountability and encouragement.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

In Tennessee, dual-diagnosis rehabs specialize in providing comprehensive care for individuals facing both mental health and substance abuse challenges. These inpatient or outpatient programs offer personalized treatment plans that integrate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and experiential therapies, with skills training, to improve your mental health and give you the tools to sustain recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

house-medical iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
