According to our analysis, the best U.S. cities for veteran’s rehab and addiction treatment are:
1. Scottsdale, Arizona
The high quality of life in Scottsdale coupled with robust employment opportunities and a strong sense of community makes it one of the best cities for veteran’s rehab. The city even has its own Veteran and Military Affairs Committee dedicated to supporting professional and academic development for local vets.
Across the city you’ll notice visual displays of this support. From the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen to the annual “Scottsdale Salutes” banner recognition program, it’s easy to see that the city cares for its service members.
This includes offering addiction treatment programs to help them overcome SUD. Here are two of the top local options.
Scottsdale Recovery
Scottsdale Recovery has a dedicated program just for veterans, designed to treat not only SUD but co-occurring mental health conditions as well.
They offer a full range of care from medical detox and residential treatment to different levels of outpatient services. They can also connect clients to dedicated peer recovery groups where participants can find support from other veterans who share similar challenges and life experiences.
The Hope House
The Hope House is a luxury residential drug rehab center that gives clients a premium space to relax, recharge and recover. They also offer advanced treatments such as neurofeedback and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Veterans will especially benefit from their specialized dual diagnosis program which addresses issues like anxiety, depression and PTSD that are common in this community.
2. Las Vegas, Nevada
Veterans in Las Vegas have access to an array of resources including benefits assistance, workforce programs and designated community areas like the Las Vegas Vet Center.
However this population still faces challenges throughout the city. From 2022 to 2023 the percentage of unhoused veterans in Las Vegas increased by more than 60%.
The Southern Nevada Health Care System recently unveiled a new program to support this community. They offer tailored housing assistance specifically for veterans while also connecting them with local facilities for addiction and mental health treatment. The three centers below can provide similar support.
WestCare Nevada – Women and Children’s Campus
At WestCare Nevada – Women and Children’s Campus, clients have access to four unique treatment programs including the Veterans Administration Women Warrior Unit.
Residents can remain on campus for up to 120 days. The VA can refer female veterans to this program which includes emergency housing, case management services and referrals for additional support. Residential addiction treatment is available through The Serenity Program which is offered at the same location.
Desert Hope Treatment Center
In November 2024 Desert Hope Treatment Center partnered with PsychArmor, a top provider of military culture training. After completing the PsychArmor program, the Las Vegas rehab facility is now a designated Veteran Ready Organization (VRO).
This means they’ve met the criteria required to provide culturally competent care exclusively for the veteran community.
Desert Hope is also part of the VA Community Care Network and offers a dedicated veterans recovery track called Salute to Recovery, which includes medical detox, residential treatment and outpatient programs customized for vets.
Lionheart Recovery Center
Lionheart Recovery Center is a residential addiction treatment center with a specialized military program just for veterans and active duty service members.
This program is designed to address co-occurring SUD and mental health conditions and includes twice-weekly therapy, family counseling and medication management. Some of the other unique services include equine therapy, trauma informed yoga and recovery-focused fitness.
3. Portland, Oregon
From VA facilities like the Portland Vet Center to nonprofits like Fort Kennedy, the Portland Metro Region is home to myriad resources designed to support and uplift local veterans.
Another local organization called the Do Good Multnomah is specifically dedicated to helping veterans overcome homelessness by addressing conditions such as mental illness and SUD.
Individuals looking for addiction treatment centers can find dedicated programs throughout the city including these three.
Tree House Recovery PDX
As a veteran owned rehab program, Tree House Recovery PDX has more than 10 years of experience helping veterans overcome SUD. They offer intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, as well a strong aftercare support network. Services here include eight different treatment methods designed for vets to include writing therapy, electrical muscle stimulation and fitness and yoga therapy.
Oregon Trail Recovery
The residential treatment programs at Oregon Trail Recovery are designed to help clients overcome addiction and find long term recovery.
They offer upscale, gender specific living facilities, physical fitness services and connections to educational and employment opportunities for civilians and veterans alike. There’s also an emphasis on Native American healing traditions to include Wellbriety programming, sweat lodges and drumming circles.
Cedar Hills Hospital
Cedar Hills Hospital offers inpatient, outpatient and residential addiction services including a detox program. They place a special emphasis on treating co-occurring conditions that vets might be struggling with.
They also integrate supportive therapies into their treatment plans for a whole person approach to treatment, offering art therapy, recreation, yoga and tai chi among other options.
4. Charlotte, North Carolina
Mecklenburg County in North Carolina is home to more than 52,000 veterans, and many of them call the Queen City home. Charlotte has many programs in place to support their military population, including nonprofits like Veterans Bridge Home that help vets connect to community resources like employment and housing assistance.
Several county departments also joined forces to create Building With Our Veterans. This is a program designed to recruit and train vets for jobs in the construction industry.
Their commitment to veteran health extends to addiction treatment. There are many facilities with dedicated military programs. These are two of the top ones.
The Blanchard Institute
Charlotte veterans seeking outpatient addiction treatment can find it at The Blanchard Institute. There are several levels of care to choose from here, including detox.
There’s also a dedicated Mental Health Program for clients and their families, and a special Trauma Treatment track that combines medication and therapy to help clients who have experienced traumatic events.
Dilworth Center
The Certified Trauma Professionals on staff at Dilworth Center can help veterans better understand the connection between their time in service and any SUD or mental health conditions they’re experiencing. They offer dual diagnosis treatment in an outpatient setting and also extend services to adolescents.
5. Cincinnati, Ohio
Across Cincinnati veterans will find many resources designed to support their overall health and successful reintegration. These include government programs like the VA Cincinnati Health Care System as well as groups like Soldiers’ Angels that offer food assistance, caregiving and other support services.
In 2025 Hamilton County celebrated its second annual Military and Veterans Appreciation Day which is a free, community-wide celebration for vets and active military members. Below are three local rehab centers with specialized programs just for vets.
Joseph House
The treatment programs at Joseph House are designed exclusively with veterans in mind. This center is dedicated to helping vets and their families overcome addiction and homelessness through inpatient, outpatient, and aftercare support.
The sober living environment here incorporates a range of therapies such as yoga and equine therapy, along with counseling and 12 Step programming. Joseph House received a $100,000 grant from Hamilton County in May 2025 to expand their veterans’ recovery services.
Center for Addiction Treatment
Center for Addiction Treatment is one of the most well-known and longest-running addiction treatment centers in Cincinnati. The cornerstone of care here is the short-term residential program which integrates psychoeducation and life skills training with conventional therapy sessions.
They also offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and outpatient services. Veterans will appreciate their holistic options, too, which include music therapy, recreation and support groups centered on spirituality.
Talbert House – Western Hills
Talbert House has many programs dedicated to helping local vets and military members across the city, including recovery and transitional housing.
In Western Hills they operate an outpatient opioid treatment program that provides counseling, mental health services, crisis stabilization and case management to help clients access VA benefits.
6. Vancouver, Washington
Many programs throughout Vancouver give top priority to veterans in the community. This includes the Partners in Careers Veterans Program, the Returning Veterans Project and Veterans Village, a housing project designed to support female vets experiencing homelessness.
There are also military friendly rehab programs nearby, including these two picks.
Helping Professionals Wellness Center
Helping Professionals Wellness Center offers a diverse array of programs beyond traditional therapy options including ones that address the unique needs of vets.
Here, clients will find anger management courses, domestic violence interventions, outpatient mental health counseling and even supportive housing. They take a trauma-informed approach to care and also offer SUD treatment in Spanish.
Lifeline Connections
There are multiple Lifeline Connections programs in the greater Vancouver region that offer mental health and SUD services.
This includes their dedicated Vancouver VA Campus Office and the Windhaven Veterans Program, which uses equine therapy to support vets living with PTSD. They also provide gender-specific inpatient programs, MAT, outpatient programming and primary care for clients of all ages.
7. Indianapolis, Indiana
Indianapolis celebrates and honors veterans all year long. In fact, Indy has devoted more acreage to erecting monuments for the nation’s fallen than any other city in the U.S. It’s also home to the second-highest number of war memorials, behind Washington, D.C.
Organizations like the Indy Warrior Partnership (IWP), the Indianapolis Vet Center and INvets help connect veterans with local resources like housing, healthcare and employment. These local options are great places to start if you need drug or alcohol rehab services in the area.
Evolve Indy
At Evolve Indy you’ll find a dedicated addiction treatment program just for veterans. These services are designed to help vets overcome the challenges that many face when they return home and reintegrate into their community.
While you live onsite and attend therapy you’ll also have the chance to participate in adventure programs and wellness activities designed to reduce stress and encourage peer connection. Residents also enjoy semi-private rooms and catered meals.
Hamilton Center
The Indianapolis location of Hamilton Center offers a dedicated Military Veteran Program (MVP) to support military personnel, vets and their family members.
It’s an outpatient counseling program that intently focuses on issues that affect this population, including addiction, PTSD, grief and survivor’s guilt. They can also link children and teens in military families to behavioral health services.
8. Tampa, Florida
Florida has the third-largest veteran population in the country, behind Texas and California. An estimated 1.4 million vets call the Sunshine State home and 93,400 of them live in Hillsborough County.
Tampa is home to myriad support programs for vets including the Veterans Art Center Tampa Bay and the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), located on the grounds of the city’s Veterans Memorial Park & Museum.

7 Summit Pathways
At 7 Summit Pathways vets can find dedicated programs to address the specific challenges they’re facing, including PTSD. Their veteran treatment track is just one of several specialized programs they offer including ones for licensed professionals, athletes and executives.
From detox and residential treatment to varying levels of outpatient care, they offer options to meet clients exactly where they are.
Sophros Recovery – Tampa
Tampa veterans can find dedicated addiction and mental health treatment at Sophros Recovery – Tampa. This outpatient center offers different levels of care, including dual diagnosis treatment and MAT services. A specialized Trauma Treatment Program and gender-specific therapy options are also available.
Coalition Recovery
Coalition Recovery provides intensive outpatient treatment and MAT services for clients in Tampa.
They have several individualized tracks including a dedicated Military Rehab Program as well as programs for students, professionals and members of the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to their treatment center they also operate several sober living homes around the greater Tampa area.
9. Nashville, Tennessee
The diverse economy, bustling entertainment industry and access to lots of veteran-friendly industries like healthcare and technology make Nashville a welcoming city for veterans.
In addition to various community centers and local government resources, Music City is also home to the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project. This is a nonprofit organization that helps other nonprofits secure funding for programs that support veteran rehabilitation and reintegration.

The Next Door Recovery
Female veterans who are seeking faith-based addiction treatment can visit The Next Door Recovery. This center caters to women and offers medically monitored detox, a 28-day inpatient program, and outpatient services.
The environment is upscale with a compassionate care team dedicated to helping clients work through SUD, trauma and co-occurring mental illnesses. Yoga sessions, art classes and offsite YMCA groups provide opportunities for stress release and peer connection.
Centerstone
Centerstone is a mental health and addiction treatment provider with several locations throughout the Southeast, including Nashville.
Here they have a specialized Military Services program that cares for service members, veterans and their families. In 2024 alone they served nearly 7,000 military clients. Programs here include residential and outpatient treatment, MAT and peer support groups.
Solutions Retreat
The men-only residential programs at Solutions Retreat are centered on experiential therapy, exposing clients to hands-on experiences like meals together, hikes and group workouts, to help them overcome substance use and mental health challenges.
They have a dedicated focus on helping veterans, and all services offered here are covered by the VA Community Care Network (VA-CCN) under the Mission Act.
10. Toledo, Ohio
Across Toledo, veterans can find resources and programs that support reintegration and connect them to local jobs, healthcare and housing.
Some of the organizations leading the way include the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission, the University of Toledo Military Service Center, and Veterans Matter which is a grassroots movement devoted to ending homelessness in this community.

Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio
Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio offers comprehensive outpatient services, including behavioral health and addiction counseling.
Veterans who go here can also access a food pantry, employment assistance and family support groups. They have specialized trauma recovery tracks as well as programs that address PTSD, marital stress and other issues that vets might face.

Hello my name is Adam. I came to Reign about a month ago. I came from NJ and enrolled to the treatment center because I was struggling with some mental health symptoms that were unmanageable with life and needed assistance with getting myself back on track. The admissions team was so helpful and supportive, they were there when I was making my 22 hour drive. Jake, Benzi, Justin, and Morgan were so supportive on my drive. When I arrived at the facility and during the duration of my stay Corey the primary therapist was very friendly and welcoming. He wasn t like normal therapists where you would have your 30 min session and you re out but he gave me as much time as I needed and let me use my phone and make calls as much as I wanted to do. Then there was Brantley the operations manager and he Was just the absolute best. I developed a great friendship with him and every night we had a thing where we watch movies together. Gina was a great group facilitator and had very informative groups. Overall I had an amazing life changing experience,

This place is a great place to go if you need help with substance abuse or just mental health as well. When I went, I unfortunately didn’t take it very seriously but the people that did take it seriously have been very successful. Kyler was a great mentor while I was there, and he along with the other techs all seem very genuine and honest and willing to help in anyway they can. I am extremely grateful for this place, as well as Kyler especially. I don’t think I would be where I am today without him as a mentor.

I have only done 2 IOP sessions so far. They are very informative. They are giving me the additional tools needed to recover. The facility and staff are awesome! Nothing but good to say about Ashwood.

I was at a place in Indiana that i thought was the best until I came to luminous. The support system and help they have n give there exceeds all expectations! I originally was going to a different program but couldn’t wait for a bed n luminous took me the same day I called! By the grace of god I found this place because it’s had a huge impact on my recovery. Getting sober is the easy part n recovery the real battle is STAYING sober n if u need help with the tools to doing so I suggest you call luminous. Scott (coach) runs amazing groups you can actually take from, Sean is a great therapists and doesn’t miss a beat and Ed runs a great program. I’m not a bot and wasn’t paid to leave this review lol I’m a resident who is just truly greatful to have had a chance to be in this program. I attended RCA for 34 days at Bracebridge Hall. It was the most awesome place for a rehab. I learnt about myself and my addiction. I attended rehab there November 15th – December 17th. The staff in it’s entirety, from counselling to doctors, counseling to dietary. There was not one thing they didn’t cover in my treatment. The place was the most beautiful place and the treatment was the best treatment out of anyone I have heard. From all the ladies and guys in nursing through the ladies and guys in the kitchen. I will never forget that place or what I learned there. I will always appreciate them for all they did for me. As well, my insurance did not cover my stay. I went through their program on scholarship. I could not thank them enough for what they did for me!!!

My experience at RCA bracebridge Hall is one that absolutely saved my life. It started with a nursing staff. My counselor was absolutely amazing and her name was Tammy. I honestly believe that she wasn’t my counselor, I would not be where I am today. I have to mention Chris grape, Lauren and Tom. Without these people my journey would have probably ended short..Beth was my case manager,she was absolutely the best at what she does.Mary who did Mat class is phenomenal.She was my inspiration in the area .she is amazing,she never missed an appointment, which is crazy knowing her workload.Elijah…WOW! I HAVE NO CLUE HOW SHE DOES WHAT SHE DOES.absolutely amazing.She is so calm,and always had/has the right answers at the right time that I need them. I am currently at sober living and the house manager, which name is Evan, deserves a Nobel Peace prize…no really. He has the patience of a god. I don’t know how he stays so calm in the situations that he’s put through. Even on vacation he still made sure the house was being ran up to par. If I missed anybody I’m so sorry everyone I dealt with it RCA was amazing I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone. Nothing but love for RCA and I would recommend this place to anyone who has addiction issues or mental health issues.all love. Oh and Miss Holly is absolutely amazing also she is the best for the kitchen staff. Laura at PHP has a way about her that only she can get away with and she is all love to everyone. Sober life is the absolute BEST place to be if you are struggling. I went in 2020 and didn t complete, and they welcomed me back with open arms march of this year and I went through completion. I have had the opportunity to stay in their network by getting care at SD wellness for psychiatry. Over this holiday week I had forgotten about my refill of a medication I need, I got in contact with Dan from alumni since I forgot what their hours were for thanksgiving and Black Friday, and by today (saturday) I have my refill! I got a personal call from Dr Amaro and got squared away. I ve never found a medical group that listens, cares, and has better communication than here. I am so happy with this process and will always come back if I need it! Highly recommend!

I am a born pessimist, so I spent a great deal of time looking into this place. First, I found nothing negative whatsoever, Secondly, I spent 60 days here and cried leaving. This place and ALL of it’s staff saved my life. I can remember spending countless times in the nurses station, at the wellness advocates desk, and even in the Blanco hall, talking to the different staff about my days, my problems, my achievements, etc. And EVERY SINGLE PERSON TOOK THE TIME TO LISTEN AND HELP OR CHEER ME ON!! There’s not a staff member in this place that doesn’t care about each person. The therapy sessions are incredible and I can’t thank them enough for showing me I wasn’t hopeless and giving me all the tools I need to have a beautiful, healthy and sober life. Windmill Wellness Ranch has truly changed my life in ways I never expected. I ve been to multiple treatment facilities over the last decade and felt that I was mentally, physically and spiritually hopeless. I felt I was a lost cause. I have had experience with 12 step programs before and assumed this experience would be like the others. I was wrong. Windmill Wellness Ranch and the staff they employ offer so much more than just a place to get sober and try twelve steps. From the admissions personnel to the wellness advocates, the therapists and the recovery coaches, I ve never met a team of people so willing to bend over backwards to help me reach my personal goals. Through WWR I was able to process a great deal of trauma successfully, while at the same time gain some phenomenal insight on how to grow in a life centered around permanent sobriety. Where to being. Treehouse is the very first place that comes to mind when I think about where I would send a loved one struggling. I went through PDX and it absolutely gave me a foundation to actually build a life. The program design, team, staff, culture allowed me to get to a place of healing that had eluded me for years. I ve been to 15-20 rehabs in my journey. Detoxes, inpatient , outpatient, Salvation Army, the million dollar mansions in SoCal, and every SUD/ PTSD program the VA has- but none of them got CLOSE to getting me to the place that treehouse has. I went there in November of 2024 because I was desperate to get help. They were very helpful with getting me there, checking with me before I got there, and making sure I didn’t change my mind about going (as most of us do when It comes to getting sober). I had an awesome time there, the staff was great (they had their off days, as us alcoholics/addicts do). We were busy most all day every day. They take you to the gym 3x a week, they do panels, and outside meetings as well. The facility itself is clean, there’s laundry machines, snacks & coffee on deck 24/7, they take you to the vape shop and wal mart once a week, and they are working on more outside activities. There were tvs and DVD players in every unit with a TON of dvds. No bed time so you are free to roam around the facility or chill and watch TV. The groups got a little boring (but if you are with a good group of guys they are a lot of fun and informative). The way insurance and every thing works was a little frustrating because it’s on a weekly basis if you stay on the treatment side or go to phase 2. You are allowed your phone 3x a day for a hour each time. The units are awesome, it is an apartment (if you go try to get into the one above the kitchen on the left haha). Mike who is one of the main dudes is an awesome person! I am currently on day 63 and if it weren’t for the lighthouse I would most likely be either dead or in the process of drinking myself to death. If you are in need of help, do the hard thing and ask for it. The money, job, or whatever it is that is keeping you from going won’t be there much longer if you continue to do what you’re doing. I love you all and hope this helps!

I would like to express my gratitude to the Lighthouse and all the staff who had helped me and guided me. I stayed at the Lighthouse for about 90 days and in that timeframe I was able to receive one on one Care meet with a therapist. All my needs were met. Stop researching treatment centers because this one is hands down the best!! I’ve been to several treatment centers and The Ridge is in a league of their own- for all the good reasons! Yes, it is a beautiful home like atmosphere with a lot of luxuries and outstanding food but the main reason I found The Ridge so helpful to me was the loving and supportive staff and amazing program. And the support doesn’t stop when you leave! I enrolled in IOP and am plugged into the many alumni events they host. My recovery community is filled today with Ridge Alum and I owe my recovery to the tools I learned at The Ridge and all the continue support I get from them.

The Ridge is an incredible place to go to for treatment. They keep you plenty busy with group therapy sessions as well as 1 on 1 sessions with a councilor, and there are lots of things to do during recreation time. I’m grateful I was able to find a treatment center with staff that truly care about me and work to foster a friendly environment among all patients. If you’re looking for help I can think of no better place to go to than the Ridge for residential treatment.

Gallus Medical is a really great detox facility, from the beginning, the staff was very welcoming and professional.One nurse, Ingrid, truly stood out. She went above and beyond in every aspect of my care, and I cannot thank her enough. The care I received under her watch was phenomenal, and she truly enhanced Gallus Medical’s reputation. While all staff members were kind and helpful, it was Ingrid’s support that really made a difference.The facility itself is comfortable. Each patient gets a private room with a large bed and TV, and you can keep your electronics and wear your own clothes. There is a balcony for smoking you can use whenever.The detox process for Fentanyl was the best I ve ever gone through. Gallus uses a micro induction method, combining small amounts of subutex with opiates, which gradually lowers the opiates while increasing the subutex.I live about an hour away from the facility, so I was essentially told to figure aftercare out on my own once I left. After paying a substantial amount for the program, I truly believe this is an area where Gallus dropped the ball, especially considering their emphasis on aftercare during the intake process. But I guess that is because this is strictly a detox facility, once the drugs are out of your system your on your own. I called 10 days after leaving asking for help however I was more or less on my own, not something most detox facilities do, aftercare is usually super important.So 4 stars if we include aftercare however 5 stars for the facility, staff, and detox protocol.

I had a phenomenal experience at this facility! Every staff member, from the RNs to the doctors, was incredible and made my time here enjoyable and relaxing.I want to give a special shoutout to Ingrid she’s a gem! Her genuine care for people is evident in her warm demeanor. Dr. S is also exceptional; he is thorough, caring, and incredibly intelligent. It s refreshing to find a doctor who combines both kindness and expertise.Niz is passionate and wonderful, always keeping me on track. So I am now officially Alumni, having said that is like a million words. I can’t thank everyone enough I have been out of treatment for 8 day’s. Attended 23 Aa meeting’s and continue to work on my sobriety, I have mended things with my wife. Foundations really helped me to find my way out of the hopelessness of addiction. I had no idea how to get out of the cycle I was trapped in. I learned alot about the real reasons that I used. I would highly recommend Foundations to anyone that wants to have long term sobriety. They give you all the tools you need to maintain it. Absolutely awesome staff and therapists. All the patients are treated with the utmost respect. No one is treated any different. With the help of Foundations s and the tools to prosper sober, I ve continued with long term sobriety and completed the 12 steps and can now give back what was freely given to me.

RCA changed my life. The best part is the people who work there- most of who are in recovery themselves. They are so educated, relatable, easy to talk to, and understanding. I created some relationships that I will hold on to for the rest of my life. The group therapy is also very helpful- you get out as much as you put in! I highly recommend going to RCA for a fresh start to recovery.
