I’m now 14 years sober and I truly have NLR To thank for that. They would go out of their way for me in ways that I’ve never seen a recovery center go out of their waiver addicts, and it made me believe in recovery again. Although this was not my last stop on the recovery train, it was my favorite stop, and I truly cherish everybody who was there. It’s a calm, supportive place where you can actually focus on getting better and figuring things out. What makes this place different is the staff. Every person I met has been through addiction themselves, so they truly get it. You’re not talking to people reading from a book. You’re talking to people who have lived it and come out the other side. That shows in the way they listen, the way they talk to you, and the patience and compassion they bring every day. The groups were helpful and real. People share honestly and support each other. The counselors and techs are down to earth and always willing to talk if you’re having a rough day. You can tell they care and want you to succeed. Many people came to check in on me and were receptive to all my questions and requests for help. Dr. Sangoi and the huge team of RNs/nurse assistants (including but not limited to Joy, Nick, Sophia, Raquel, and many more that I cannot recall the names of) were extremely helpful and kind. I also appreciate how generous they were with their time. The facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the food was surprisingly quite tasty. Overall, a great ER! This place feels very homey, but at the same time it’s definitely high-end and has a lot of amenities that I don’t think you’d find at many other inpatient rehabs, like a theater room, jacuzzi, gym, resources, beautiful rooms. It’s also really beautiful and peaceful here, which has helped a lot during this process. The group therapy sessions are very intimate, and the people in group are genuinely non-judgmental. I work with Kristine, who has been amazing. Just graduated IOP and i feel confident with getting out there and working on my sobriety personally. Dr. Smeester (“Dan”) is great. He has a very warm and gentle presence, and it’s clear that he really cares about helping people who are struggling with addiction. He doesn’t judge. he listens carefully and accommodates any extra need you need. I had a great experience, and learned a lot. They provide aftercare for all graduates no matter when they graduated. I personally continue to attend aftercare every Wednesday, free of charge. I had been with his wife Dr Gutierrez for years (she is also the best and a amazing Dr!! I began working with Dr Smeester and have been with him for a few years now. You will never find a Dr like Dr Smeester he is 1 in a million!! He is caring he works with you to give you the best outcome. I can’t imagine my life without his care. I was very grateful to be able to get a bed quickly (the very next day). This is not a resort or a vacation, it's a rehab. You won't find a spa or masseuse here, but you will find a safe and supportive environment to work on yourself. The staff was helpful and kind, but of course they are humans too. The main counselor was very helpful and intuitive - she was able to pinpoint what some of my personal issues to focus on were. Overall, I would recommend this facility to anyone who is serious about working on themselves. Other facilities might have more amenities, more people, etc. but I found that having less external distractions helped me get a lot more out of my time here. J Ballard 1 month ago So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start. Pros to going to Palm Ave: -The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic. -It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people. -Food was very clean, healthy, and always available. -Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it. -There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led. -They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep. Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories. Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours. Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it. Good Morning" or " Good Night" They actually take an interest in why your there and what they can do to make your stay as successful as possible. Classes are set up and offered throughout the day to ensure that you have some tools when you leave. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county. Once medically stable in the hospital, he was discharged to Mission Oaks for therapy with the goal to get his independence back in his home. There are 15 beds in the unit. Consider yourself very fortunate if you or your loved one gets admitted. This facility is top notch. The staff here are professional, caring, hardworking, and exceptional at what they do. The vast majority have been here for many, many years. It's not a revolving door. They are proud of what they have created. It's the culture here. Relearning to walk (PT), grab a cup (OT), or swallow for that matter (Speech Therapy), doesn't just happen. It requires hard work by both the patient and the staff. Nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital call this place "Boot Camp". From what I have learned, rehab is most effective when started soon after a stroke. Because of this, the therapists push to get the most out of the patients when they are here. I wish I could name everyone who has helped us. It would be the entire staff. I started noting individual names, but after I hit the 20 mark, I figured I would miss someone who definitely deserved credit. Expect several hours of various types of therapy per day. Filling in the gaps are a dedicated team of nurses that make sure your loved one vitals are tracked and correct medicine administered. The nurses all are friendly and care about you or your loved one. My father at 78 years of age came here unable to walk on his own or use his left hand. Two weeks later, he's walking and using his hand. He now has the ability and confidence to get back to living a life of independence. He will have some care initially, but the goal is to minimize the amount of care he gets over time. They have a care coordinator and social worker here on the floor that will actively work out a plan for you and/or loved one. I have heard horror stories about other facilities in the area. So many wonderful, charming, and enthusiastic people that work here! I remember coming to the San Francisco location and I just asked a random janitor where to find the barber shop, and to my surprise, they have one! The fact that he knew and took the time to help my family veteran, was so endearing to us. They close super early and we weren't able to utilize this benefit regularly. Sighs.
