The level of professionalism, compassion, and clinical expertise provided by every member of the team is truly world-class. In my opinion, Reflections sets the gold standard for addiction treatment. If you fully commit to the program, embrace the guidance of the staff, and continue your recovery by participating in support groups such as AA or NA after treatment, I genuinely believe you will give yourself the greatest possible opportunity to achieve lasting sobriety. I arrived at Reflections completely broken by addiction. I left with something I had not felt in a very long time—hope. More importantly, I left with the strength, courage, confidence, and tools necessary to build a new life. Several months ago, my brother was in a very dangerous place in his life. It got to the point where we feared for his life on a weekly basis and knew we had to do something urgently. Our family staged an intervention and successfully got my brother to agree to inpatient treatment. After extensive research, I found that Reflections was our best option, and I believe choosing Reflections is a decision that may have saved his life. From the very first phone call I had with program director Olejan, I felt a level of genuine care, intelligence, nuance, and humanity that Olejan brought to our conversations. He wasn't trying to sell us the program or anything like that. We had heart-to-heart conversations that made me feel like Reflections would be our partner in my brother's recovery. I felt confident in the credentialed clinical team they have there with Dr. Hanna, and reassured that the level of care my brother would receive would be top-notch, with more one-to-one therapeutic care than what most inpatient treatment centers could offer in Los Angeles. My brother's main therapist at Reflections was Stewart Bryant, and they formed an amazing relationship that my brother cherished during his stay. Week by week I would check in with my brother while he was at Reflections, and just hearing him progressively become more clear-headed, alert, deeply reflecting, emotionally available and vulnerable and willing to speak about everything, working through foundational issues in his life, being more optimistic and committed to his sobriety - it was so profoundly encouraging to see the signs of his work at Reflections really taking root. To any family member reading this while desperately searching for the right place for someone you love: Reflections was an amazing option and I highly recommend you reach out and speak to Olejan who will wholeheartedly address any concerns you may have about Reflections being a good match for your family member in need of treatment. Going to a detox and a rehab is so hard scary and you are riddled with shame when I was at Heartwood and I finally was able to get the strength to eat, the first person that shared kindness, no judgment, no disrespect, and no shame was the Chef at Heartwood Novato. I don’t remember what his name is, but what I do remember is how he made me feel. I have been at rehab before and this time it was very different and I have been sober since this Chef has brown hair, kind eyes, and he would talk to me, and I saw him talk to all the clients and listen to them and hear their stories and make them feel so good about who they are as a human being not about the things that they have done. And I think this person really deserves to be lifted and raised up to the highest because that’s what he gave to me into the other clients that I got to see while I was there. I really think it’s important to recognize those that help light up our souls because that’s what we need in this world and so this recognition is to the Chef at Heartwood Novato to thank this person for lighting up my soul when it felt so dark, and it felt so judged, and it was riddled with shame it was you that fed me and it was you that helps me feel more human than anyone else has ever made me feel. They actually do trauma therapy, and you get sessions with a licensed psychologist twice a week, in addition to your drug counselor. The very best therapists I have EVER worked with. And the best drug counselor I've ever had. I've been looking for therapy like this, and the answers I got at Olympia House, for 20 years. They are the most skilled, caring, and professional team of people I've ever worked with in mental health. I'm dual diagnosis, so I've been seeing professionals for my mental health for 25 years. Some of their curriculum is custom, developed in house by the psychologists there—you won't find tools like these anywhere else. I have a custom designed "addictive system" I use every day to track where I am in my recovery and mental health. I use this not only to prevent relapses, but correct myself if I run off course, and this works not just for substance relapses but also things like depression, anxiety, and anger. Their website doesn't reflect this, but they take Kaiser Permanente insurance now. That's the only reason I was able to come here. I know reviews are inflated on the Internet, but please trust me, I swear with every fiber of my being and every ounce of integrity I have, this is likely the best rehab in California. If you have trauma, and most people do, or some form of PTSD, this is the place you should go. They also focus on finding meaning and purpose in life--and they will definitely help you with that. They also allow you to come back to the rehab twice a year for 2-3 days for free! They call it a "tune up". No one else I know of does this. There's also free group therapy for alumni (a process group led by one of the therapists there) once a week via Zoom. I would wake up many times in OH in disbelief that this place exists at all, and that I got to be a resident here. They've made an enormous difference in the outcome of my life. ****ADDENDUM**** I recently read a review of OH where someone on the autism spectrum had a difficult experience. I'm sorry to hear that, but I simply wanted to say I'm (diagnosed) autistic (ASD 1/Aspergers) myself and felt that OH not only understood the strengths and limitations that can come with that, but also caused me to realize I had overestimated how different I was from my peers because of my autism. I still have it, of course, but the result of being at OH was a clearer picture of its actual impact in my life, particularly with peer relationships. Couldn't ask for a better place to wake up everyday while recovering. Everyone that works for O.H genuinely cares. They make u feel like you unique and special. They do not turn anyone away UNLESS you require more specialized care being that they are not a hospital with a doctor on site. The doctors, couselors, and staff all work to help identify the root cause of the core distortions that contribute to substance abuse. The focus of the residents mind, body, and spirit are all addressed. Additionally, there is a lifetime of free continuous care for the alumni that includes zoom process groups, AA/NA meetings, visits once a year for two days at the house. For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important. There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time. Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules. Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed. Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you. If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor. Every package you get will be inspected. For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches. You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed. Hide your stash. People steal Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it. You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you. Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. The first time I came here, I was 12 years old. I was very scared but the staff were really nice and supportive. The program is really helpful, I'd recommend this place to any child who is struggling with mental health. They also have a program to treat ED's. I've been to the 3 East B adolscent psych unit multiple times, so I'm very familiar with everyone. The therapist Emilio, Megan, and Susanna were so nice to me, and a nurse named Chris. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice.
