1 in 5 people who experience a mental health episode will be shot by police. That statistic was founded in 2015, imagine how bad it is now. Anyway, this place claims to have a mobile crisis team, but they will simply call the police on you if you're having a crisis.

As both a client and member of the management team at Second Chance, I can attest to the remarkable work these sober living facilities in the Bay Area are doing. I witness "miracles" happening here daily - a caring, dedicated, and highly educated staff demonstrate first-rate expectations for all residents, empowering them to grow, prosper, and become healthy, sober contributors to society. Clients emerge from their shells, becoming active and engaged members of the community. The program's impressive success rate speaks for itself - it provides not only safe, top-quality housing and amenities, but also facilitates life-changing transformations. This is truly a Second Chance to those seeking hope and help to overcome alcoholism and addiction.

I enjoyed beginning my recovery at this house as it was always clean, safe and quiet I enjoyed the brief meetings in the evening. Seeing everyone eyeball to eyeball kept me accountable and I felt support. Best of all, it was a great place for me to teach myself to sit still again and relax , eat regular and sleep regular 🧡

This place is amazing. I went for behavioral health and every part of the experience, from the front desk offering coffee, to the intake coordinator, to the therapist that helped me during one of the lowest times of my life, was beyond anything I would have ever expected from a non-profit for low income folks. I am so grateful for the care I received here.

Look no further for outstanding PT sessions from skilled, professional, caring staff. Nice campus setting, good parking, spotless clean facility. Easy to reach, just a few minutes from 17. Very disappointed with two other facilities I was referred to during earlier years. Almost gave up on medical care. The GS Hospital is an eye opener and gave me new hope. Perfect preparation for a major surgery (chronic disease) and recovery afterwards to get back in shape. Wonderful!

So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start. Pros to going to Palm Ave: -The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic. -It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people. -Food was very clean, healthy, and always available. -Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it. -There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led. -They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep. Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories. Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours. Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it.

Place is amazing!..Staff is amazing and they take the time to make sure that your doing okay. Not just a cursory.." Good Morning" or " Good Night" They actually take an interest in why your there and what they can do to make your stay as successful as possible. Classes are set up and offered throughout the day to ensure that you have some tools when you leave. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county. They have a business model that is golden and should be mirrored by similiar businesses.

I have had an excellent experience at Palm Detox. They reopened and came recommended by members of the community. I was hesitant at first but I showed up embarrassed and defeated. was treated with respect and staff went out of the way to help me. Female lead staff even brought me clothing, books and hygiene from her home because I was in need of deodorant and the stuffuu they had didn’t work. I didn’t ask, she overheard me and another client talking. She brought him some clothing and a notebook. This place has amazing staff. They tend to follow the rules and it’s annoying sometimes cause I’d like to smoke more and have SUGAR. But I do recommend plus they help u find treatment after.

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible nurses and staff who cared for me during my hospital stay. Their dedication, kindness, and professionalism made an experience that could have been stressful and overwhelming feel safe, supportive, and even joyful. In particular, I am so thankful to Hitome, Shari, and Dave from the labor and delivery unit. Hitome’s attentiveness and thoughtfulness were remarkable—she anticipated my needs and offered comfort and reassurance throughout the entire process. Shari’s warm-hearted and compassionate nature made me feel truly cared for, and Dave stepped in during the pushing stage with such patience and support, helping me feel confident and encouraged. I am also immensely grateful to Arlene from the Mother-Baby Unit night shift, whose organized, thorough, and compassionate care made a significant difference during the overnight hours. Additionally, I want to sincerely thank Suzane, the lactation consultant, whose professional guidance, practical advice, and encouragement helped me navigate breastfeeding with confidence. Each of these amazing individuals went above and beyond, and I will always remember the care, support, and genuine kindness they provided. This hospital is truly fortunate to have such dedicated professionals, and I feel incredibly grateful to have been under their care.

I was admitted to the orthopedic department at El Camino hospital and from the moment I arrived and checked in at patient administration on 11/3, I was greeted by friendly, caring staff. Wendy was my nurse in pre-op and she was funny, witty, and set me at ease before my surgery. When I was taken to the operating room I was met by Elizabeth the nurse and Mark the anesthesiologist. They were both extremely helpful and clearly laid out what would happen with the spinal anesthesia and how quickly I’d be out. When I was out of surgery, I was placed in the orthopedic pavilion and my nurses were exceptional! Priscilla, Elena, and Coral took amazing care of me, were attentive, and wonderful! Thanks to the amazing staff at El Camino hospital, especially the orthopedic team! You went above and beyond my expectations! Lastly, the menus had many healthy options, like roasted veggie risotto, butternut squash and garden salad. The food was great too!

I was a patient 4x at this hospital due to instability with medicine, homelessness and illness. It was very rough for me to get adjusted due to my inability to smoke for 4-6 months. However when I did I was pleased. I was taught what close care of hygiene looks like, structured days and balanced meals, and learned what better relationships look like can be formed through advocating, asserting, and assimilating. I needed this time to remain healthy, it could have easily been the reason I am still here. From this hospital I was granted to go to independent living, and with the skills I learned and the reasonable rent, I am a more reliable person for my family. The staff was very sensitive to my insecurities and they sincerely invested whatever time they could to be available to speak with them. I would like to be staff as well, helping people build confidence and approach. I want to work in the mental health profession at crestwood now because after meeting many cordial guides like Tom from (phf) and fay (mhrc) both paved the way for my good faith and understanding in a more worldly way. Dr Munir was a wonderful suite for his job and very talented. Thank you again for my brighter future that I have today. Love, cody LA ROSA

This is the best ADU (crisis residential program) in San Francisco and a gem of the public mental health system in The City. Very client centered, veteran staff, many of whom have worked here for many years... They prioritize client needs and the client's experience, and safety. Well maintained, clean, beautiful facility. Bilingual program, signs are in English and Spanish and groups are interpreted for Spanish only speakers. This is a social model program, like the other ADUs in San Francisco. There are multiple therapeutic groups per day, counseling, referral to case management or other services in San Francisco, and meals included. You're allowed to leave the facility to attend to errands, appointments, or outside support after an initial "orientation" period. They will help set you up with whatever resources you may need. At LEAST three employees still work here (it's April 2024, my last visit was in 2012). Call Dore Urgent Care Clinic or speak to a case manager for referral. Typical length of stay: Two weeks, possible referral to longer term residential treatment. Medicare and/or Medi-Cal, Healthy San Francisco, no insurance, Kaiser accepted. I had a serious mental health crisis a couple of years ago and needed help putting the pieces back together. I found it in Embodied Recovery, as well as understanding, support and a safe, therapeutic environment where I could to begin to sift through the emotional fallout. The holistic approach and unique blend of programming that Mike and Greg have so lovingly curated was instrumental in setting me down on a path to recovery. Happily, I still engage with them and my cohorts (now friends) that I met during my time there. I will always be grateful to them, I needed a safe place to land and they provided that and so much more.

It's been over 20ys since I participated in this program through the nudge of a judge. My last name was different. My life had spiraled into turmoil and utter caios. I hit rock bottom so hard I was spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically broken. Honestly I wished I would die than live another day. At first I didn't want to be there. I did participate in the program several times. I still remember my house managers name, Sharron. I definitely didn't leave as a night in shinning armor. The reality is I dabbled once or twice a yr. More importantly whenever I did I felt guilty, dirty, remorseful, and imberrased. Life hasn't been a beautiful boutique of roses but I am definitely proud of who I am, the challenges I've over come, and the abilities that were given to me through Support Systems Homes. Thank you for caring. Thank you for not judging. Thank you for teaching me structure in such a subtle way. I am alive, happy, and a functional part of society because of this program.

The clients were very diverse, all had different stories and background, but filled with so much love and gratitude to be there. I highly recommend this service if you feel lost and are ready to heal.

Support systems homes will know me by my maiden name, but i was there a couple times years back. It took more than one go for me to “get it”, but here’s the good news: when i left, and relapsed, it only took me one month to be begging to go back to support systems. And they welcomed me with love. The second time, i knew I needed additional support, and i lived at their SLE. My mom got a ton of education and support from the family program and got linked in to al-anon, which we now attend together. Addiction is truly a family disease, and we both had a lot to learn. Today, i have ten years sober, i am married to someone who treats me the way I deserve, and we have two beautiful children, who i am 100% present for. I am also a registered nurse and i work in psychiatry, where i meet and try to help addicts like me every day. Support systems nourished me- literally, with incredible food, and spiritually, with unconditional understanding, patience, and support. Ten years later, i look at pictures of the facility and truly miss it! I still consider it my home away from home, the safest place I’ve ever known, and the safest i have ever felt. I came in completely destroyed and beaten, and i got to be completely safe and somewhere that would protect and help me.

When I came to California in October 2022, I had no clue as to what I was going to do. I had been homeless since 2017. My wife convinced me to come out this way. I came from southern Alabama. All of this assistance that I have been apart of is new to me. I wasn't looking for help, and I wasn't asking for help. I was placed with B.A.C.S. thru a homeless program in Berkeley. As of today I cab honestly say I am humbled. This place has been there when I came looking for help. They ask me how I'm doing on a regular basis. They are non judgemental about whom you might have been. They only see you as you are today. And that alone is the most blessed felling I have come to know. Thank you B.A.C.S. staff for doing all that you do.

BACS Townhouse is truly a Godsend. My wife and I were homeless as of August 2022. The Staff was nothing short of sweet and pleasant. The only drawback, is occasionally we would get some nut jobs in there that would get a little violent because they’re having a mental episode. As a matter of fact, I almost got into a fight with a couple of them. If you’re really serious about your business, and getting out of homelessness, this is the place for you. And my wife and I had a laser focus. Another advantage we had was the fact that we own a vehicle that we slept in while we were homeless. BACS hooked us up with a special kind of homeless shelter, that allowed us to park our car in the special kind of parking lot on 8th Street in West Oakland. There they would provide a table full of plastic bags full of survival food. Like potted meat, Vienna, sausage, and all sorts of assortment of chips. It was really a great set up. During the night they provided a porta potty at a place to wash your hands after you use it. Once a week, a truck would come in to the lot and provide both free showers and laundry world is a homeless people in the lot. They even provided service for your car in some cases. By September 2022, we were blessed to be hooked up with Holland house on W. Grand Ave. in West Oakland. And that magical day finally came in January 1, 2023 when we would move into our new apartment. And we’ve been here ever since. I think got a boat for Bay Area community services, where I write this review from our beautiful little apartment here in Oakland.😃
