RICH another great counselor } so you know we both can’t have the same counselors so of course I got kicked to the curb. Best curb I got kicked to { so to speak. } which is currently Nicole Martinez, the best I’ve ever had , She definitely help me get to where I am now she goes above and beyond helped me in my life so much, I don’t even know what I’m gonna do when we goes our separate ways 😔..I wish I can take her with me. It’s a calm, supportive place where you can actually focus on getting better and figuring things out. What makes this place different is the staff. Every person I met has been through addiction themselves, so they truly get it. You’re not talking to people reading from a book. You’re talking to people who have lived it and come out the other side. That shows in the way they listen, the way they talk to you, and the patience and compassion they bring every day. The groups were helpful and real. People share honestly and support each other. The counselors and techs are down to earth and always willing to talk if you’re having a rough day. You can tell they care and want you to succeed. For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important. There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time. Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules. Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed. Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you. If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor. Every package you get will be inspected. For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches. You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed. Hide your stash. People steal Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it. You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you. Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. The young Asian receptionist on the 5th floor was especially friendly and kind. Many people came to check in on me and were receptive to all my questions and requests for help. Dr. Sangoi and the huge team of RNs/nurse assistants (including but not limited to Joy, Nick, Sophia, Raquel, and many more that I cannot recall the names of) were extremely helpful and kind. I also appreciate how generous they were with their time. The facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the food was surprisingly quite tasty. Overall, a great ER! The withdrawal was the scariest thing that I've ever been through but they used medically assisted treatment to taper me off. I went through hell and back but they almost got me through it. Luckily they knew how to treat me. They sent me to the mental health department when things got really bad and then I came back for the rest of my treatment. The groups and counselors are great and very informative and educational. The nurses on the other hand were horrible and didnt understand what was happening with me during withdrawal. I told them I was hallucinating and scared and didn't know where I was in the middle of the night but they just told me to go back to my room. I begged for help and was scared to death but they wouldn't help me. They ended up transporting me to mental health when I was blacked out and out of control. Once medically stable in the hospital, he was discharged to Mission Oaks for therapy with the goal to get his independence back in his home. There are 15 beds in the unit. Consider yourself very fortunate if you or your loved one gets admitted. This facility is top notch. The staff here are professional, caring, hardworking, and exceptional at what they do. The vast majority have been here for many, many years. It's not a revolving door. They are proud of what they have created. It's the culture here. Relearning to walk (PT), grab a cup (OT), or swallow for that matter (Speech Therapy), doesn't just happen. It requires hard work by both the patient and the staff. Nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital call this place "Boot Camp". From what I have learned, rehab is most effective when started soon after a stroke. Because of this, the therapists push to get the most out of the patients when they are here. I wish I could name everyone who has helped us. It would be the entire staff. I started noting individual names, but after I hit the 20 mark, I figured I would miss someone who definitely deserved credit. Expect several hours of various types of therapy per day. Filling in the gaps are a dedicated team of nurses that make sure your loved one vitals are tracked and correct medicine administered. The nurses all are friendly and care about you or your loved one. My father at 78 years of age came here unable to walk on his own or use his left hand. Two weeks later, he's walking and using his hand. He now has the ability and confidence to get back to living a life of independence. He will have some care initially, but the goal is to minimize the amount of care he gets over time. They have a care coordinator and social worker here on the floor that will actively work out a plan for you and/or loved one. I have heard horror stories about other facilities in the area. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice. I had an insurance issue that I could see caused a lot of problems for the staff by the amount of time I spent with Jacky and the case manager in the office. J Ballard 2 months ago So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start. Pros to going to Palm Ave: -The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic. -It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people. -Food was very clean, healthy, and always available. -Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it. -There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led. -They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep. Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories. Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. We came from out of town because he could not receive the care through our local VA, so we had to travel to this hospital for the care he needed, and we couldn’t be more happy with the care he received - across the board. From the moment we checked in at the Fisher House, we were met with kindness, warmth and incredible support. The staff made us feel welcome and gave me a comfortable place to stay during what was a stressful and emotional time. Having the Fisher House available to us made such a difference and we are incredibly thankful for everyone who makes that possible. Our experience at the Palo Alto VA was equally exceptional. From the attention in the weeks prior leading up to his procedure Donna on the Cardiology team kept us up to date and informed about everything. She is such a gift to the patients and their families. Then from check-in, to pre-op through the procedure and all the way to discharge, every person we encountered was professional, compassionate, patient and genuinely caring. We felt informed and supported throughout the entire process, and it meant so much to know that my dad was in such good hands. The Cardiology team there is top-notch and everyone made us feel comfortable every step of the way. A special thank-you to his nurses, Tricia, Emily and Ryan in the intermediate ICU unit. They were absolutely awesome! They were kind, attentive, reassuring and took such great care of my dad. Their compassion and the way they interacted with both him and myself meant more than they probably realize. My dad also had wonderful things to say about his anesthesiologist. Unfortunately, I am terrible with names and don't remember his name, but my dad specifically mentioned how much he liked him and how comfortable he made him feel. It is easy to focus on the medical procedure itself, but what made this experience so meaningful was the humanity behind the care. The doctors, nurses, staff and Fisher House team all made an incredibly difficult situation feel a little less frightening. We are deeply thankful to everyone who cared for my dad and supported our family. Your kindness made a lasting impression on us. Thank you for everything you do for veterans and their families. There would always be extra food. and they would ask us, anyone want this, they had coffee if I remember.
