I joined this program almost 5 months ago (6/15/23), and so far I am very pleased with the services that they provide. I have been on 2 other programs (New Era in Bridgeport and CT Counciling Center in Danbury) prior to my joining the Root Center, and in my experience, the Root Center is a far better program. The nurses, the councilors, and the rest of the staff are extremely professional while maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere for their patients. Unfortunately, I did have a couple of false positive urinalysises. However, when they saw how upset I was over the error, they believed me, and approved my take home bottles anyway. That would have NEVER HAPPENED at the other programs I have been on. If you are struggling with addiction and are considering joining the Root Center, do it. Today could be the day that you begin to turn it all around. Make the call. God bless!! It has been a couple of months since my last review. In that time I had my bottles recalled for another false positive. There's been a lot of talk at the program about this issue. Apparently this isn't a "me" problem. It's a "we" problem. Because a high (no pun intended) number of clients are complaining about false positives, and to me, that's a problem. I can't speak for everyone else, but in my case, I know that I haven't used since 6/23. It's now 1/24. I shouldn't have any drugs left in my system. The Root Center really needs to address and fix this issue. Not only is it unfair to be treated punitively when you are innocent of wrongdoing, it is also dangerous to the addict. It's the sort of thing that can topple someone's recovery.

They saved my life and gave me a life I never thought would be possible. If you're questioning getting on the program then please give it a chance it's worth it. I went from homeless and jobless to having a beautiful home a beautiful career and a beautiful family and most importantly of all I'm actually happy. The only time I encountered issues with this program was when there was issues with myself that I had to work on. Once I figured that stuff out, the program became very useful resource for me, in fact the most important resource in my recovery has been ROOT and CCAR combined. So grateful this program exists!

When you have people who are close to you die. That hit's straight to the core, being closed off to the world. That's when you get help, to learn how to cope with those feelings. Those feelings are only thoughts which you don't have to own them, so learn how to let go some of those feelings.

Have noticed some very bad reviews of the personnel at The Providence Center. I have observed completely the opposite: everyone is very professional, kind, caring and tries to be as helpful as possible. Considering the disgraceful mental health system in this country, with meager funding available, the staff at TPC provides better help and support to their often homeless clientele than many of the private facilities for which patients pay a great deal of money. Bravo to The Providence Center.

I’ve been going to United Services for psychiatric med management since around 2012. They’ve always been so helpful, welcoming, understanding, etc. I’ve been with my provider, Samer, for the last 4ish years and I can honestly say I’ve never had a more attentive and caring provider. He really listens to what I’m saying and takes the time to understand and works with me to find the best solution. I cannot say enough good things about the man, truly. In the spirit of keeping it real and giving credit where it’s due: I’ve been in recovery for six years now, and SDC has given me my life back in ways I never thought possible. I walked through these doors with four years clean after working at Walmart, started as a tech, and found a purpose that hit deeper than any paycheck ever could. Helping clients fight their way back to themselves — being living proof that we do recover — has become the core of who I am. SDC isn’t perfect; no company is. But this place genuinely cares — about the clients, about the staff, about doing the work the right way. We’ve got supervisors who show up for us, support us, and remind us that our wellbeing matters, too. I feel lucky, grounded, and honestly grateful to be part of a team that actually walks the walk. Not to toot our own horn — but hey, sometimes the data speaks for itself — SDC is the cleanest detox I’ve ever stepped foot in, and I’ve been to over twenty across Massachusetts back when I was struggling. The food? Better than any detox I’ve ever been to. The compassion? On another level entirely. What I see here day in and day out is beyond policy and procedure — it’s heart, it’s integrity, it’s service. SDC has been a beacon for me: light, strength, and motivation when I needed it most. And I know I’m not the only one. Here’s to the work we do, the lives we help rebuild, and the community that keeps proving recovery is possible — one patient, one moment, one day at a time. Sincerely, Ryan Simpson - SDC Counselor (Previous positions - SDC Behavioral Tech & Admission's Counselor)

I originally came here to get better at socializing. After a few months, I had realized (completely separate from anything to do with therapy here) that I have PTSD from childhood trauma. The main therapist I was seeing was kind, easy to talk to, and receptive. However, I only got to see her once every three weeks, and Wheeler occasionally even cancelled those appointments, so we barely made any progress when we did meet. She had expressed that "you might have autism, but it would be a minor diagnosis." I just recently got a neuro assessment elsewhere that indicates that I am autistic, and research has led me to the conclusion that that's about 90% of my struggle. Can't blame her for being unaware and overworked, she's putting in her resources the best she reasonably can in this environment. The APRN I saw here asked me questions for one hour and then ignored every bit of information I gave her to say she'd picked out a medication I blatantly expressed I wasn't interested in (I don't need SSRIs, I don't want to change my serotonin because I feel plenty of happiness and serotonin is more complicated than being "a happy chemical" / I can't deal with the side effects and withdrawal symptoms). When I expressed frustration with her inauthenticity during an extremely pivotal and difficult moment in my life, she acted like I have a mood disorder and put that on my record. I don't. Everyone else I saw agreed that I don't, but it's still on there. I'm actually still traumatized by having been in love with someone who does have a mood disorder and had zero accountability. Needless to say, this facility has no clue how to handle autism, and that's extremely alarming considering how awareness of autism is accelerating, hence the increase in diagnosed autistics within our population. Between what I've explained, coming to this facility is just simply not sustainable for most people, and if you need help and aren't getting it when you should, it's counterproductive. There are positive aspects to this place, as in it probably is great for people with mood disorders, because of available group therapies, though I had no place there because I would just be guilting people by being honest. Even though there's a lack of communication that let's people's biases get in the way of helping sometimes, there are some people who work here who do know what they're doing... I've just only had the briefest encounters with them. I wonder why. I saved the most important statement for last: I keep seeing billboards for Wheeler Clinic, and the most recent one blatantly advertises a medication. Now, reader, please consider why a mental health organization that's overbooked would need to advertise, and how that relates to me being prescribed a medication I never wanted and clearly don't actually need, and how I was not recommended help by the professionals who actually could've directed me towards a clear path of progress. I came here for 1 and a half to 2 years.

Inter Community, 40 Coventry St, Hartford CT. I’ve had a very good experience with InterCommunity Health. The staff is welcoming, respectful, and genuinely cares about patient well-being. From the front desk to the doctors and counselors, everyone takes the time to listen and provide support without judgment. Their integrated approach to healthcare—covering physical, behavioral, and mental health—makes it easier to get comprehensive care in one place. The medical team explains treatment options clearly and works with you to find what fits best. Wait times can vary, but overall, the quality of care and compassion shown by the providers more than make up for it. Carlson was the right place at the right time for me to bring a friend of mine who had finally decided to detox and go into an aftercare program, from addiction. The place was well organized, seemed to be run well and plenty of patient supervision, from the point that my friend made it through the complete admission process, she was able to reach out to myself and her sister, and her mother, and then transition to the Hope house in Springfield. I strongly encourage anyone battling with addiction and / or dual diagnosis as well, to call Carlson for bed availability and go through the program. A lot has changed in this field over the past five years, but most notably over the past two years, and there is help and there is hope, if you know somebody who’s struggling out there, they are somebody’s daughter they are somebody’s son. They could also be somebody’s spouse and they could also be somebody’s parent as well, try to do what you can to help them as long as it’s within your cable tow. God bless.

I think the Carlson center was awesome. They medicate you so you are really comfortable. Their food is incredible and you can get seconds too which is helpful when you are starving and coming off alcohol. Every time I relapsed I went there because I knew they would give me another chance. You should go to groups but yes you can sleep if you’re tired. I remember the first time I went there. I was in serious alcohol withdrawal. I had the best sleep after being medicated. Their staff is great too. They saved my life. They wake you up for vitals early but you may need medication. They have punch in the tv room which I drank like no tomorrow. Snacks too. I’ve been there like 7 times and they always treat me great. I wish I could say my name but can’t. You will always get a second chance there

I was very happy to have learned of this establishment. Many insurances are accepted like Medicaid and Medicare, although certain counselors accept certain insurances. The scheduling coordinators are very friendly and work with you to receive the help you need. It is also worth noting that services are offered for kids and even toddlers, with referalls offered as well.
