It is funny to write a review such as this one. Because unlike most reviews, I would never tell someone that should ~want~ to come here. No, I do not wish the imprisonment of this kind of disorder on anyone. But we are humans, and sometimes we build up protections that end up hurting ourselves in the process. In order to control, we become controlled. And then… it’s no longer about what we want, but what we need. It’s one of the most difficult actions of all: fighting against your own mind, separating the selves, reclaiming free will that does not feel like free will… this is not easy work. This is, however, very very important work. I lived at CFD through the beginnings of autumn into the middle of winter three years ago this October. I think about what got me to those front doors on that first day. Despite all fear, all visceral and panicked resistance, there existed that deeper, still powerful piece of soul that knew this was not a life I wanted to live. Chained to my own mind! Chained to its rules! Possessed by something that I didn’t recognize myself in and had absolutely no way of climbing out on my own. And so at CFDs front steps I arrived. What can I say? This is no vacation, but this may be the most important time away you ever take. For anyone else feeling the fear and resistance, I want to share what became true for me: For all the tears you cry, you will also laugh. You will make art again. You will sit in nature. You will slow down. And for all the times you feel lonely, you will have the gift of living among authentic souls. They will understand you, teach you, care for you, celebrate your wins… like me, you may even make a lifelong friend. You’ll hold her newborn baby, you’ll know that only facing darkness makes the light that much brighter. You will be cared for here. These are good humans. The kind that remember your name long after you have left, long after you no longer think of that time because you don’t have to. Now, years later, I must remind myself to feel pride for what my life has become, because to live unchained is no small feat. Even if one day your feat becomes normalcy and you forget the enormous beauty of a voice quieted to sleep— you did something momentous. I’m proud of myself for the beautifully free life I get the privilege of living now, but more so, I am grateful. I am grateful places like this exist, and the people who come with it, who dedicate their lives to help save others’. There is nothing scarier than showing up. But if I can assure someone out there of one thing, you will leave better for it.

It’s hard to believe that in a couple of months it will be two years since I walked into the doors of Center for Discovery Congress. My time at CFD was truly transformative. From the moment I arrived, I was met with warmth, compassion, and an incredible level of care. The staff—therapists, dietitian, and counselors—were not only knowledgeable but deeply invested in my healing journey and SO extremely patient with me. What made my experience so impactful was the holistic approach to recovery. They didn’t just focus on my eating disorder; they helped me address the underlying trauma that contributed to it. Through specialized trauma work, I was able to process past experiences in a safe and supportive environment. The therapy sessions, whether group or one-on-one, gave me the tools to navigate my emotions, build resilience, and truly begin healing from the inside out. Beyond the incredible care, one of the most meaningful parts of my journey was the connections I formed with others in treatment. Being surrounded by individuals who truly understood my struggles created a sense of belonging I had never felt before. The friendships I built during my time at CFD became a source of strength and encouragement, reminding me that I was never alone in this process. We supported each other through the ups and downs, celebrated victories—big and small—and formed bonds that will last a lifetime. The environment itself was nurturing and free of judgment, allowing me to focus entirely on recovery. Every meal was a step forward, supported by professionals who understood the complexities of my struggles. They gave me the tools to helped start rebuilding my relationship with food, my body, and most importantly, myself. Center for Discovery Congress gave me hope when I felt lost. They empowered me with the strength and skills to move forward, not just in my recovery from an eating disorder, but in my overall healing from trauma. I am forever grateful for their kindness, patience, and unwavering support. If you or a loved one are struggling, I wholeheartedly recommend Center for Discovery—you will be in the best hands possible, surrounded by a community that truly cares.

I was at Center for Discovery for 5 and a half months. Out of all the 31 treatment places I have been this one was by far the best. The staff are amazing and so caring and really have all the clients best interest in mind. You are not just another client… you become part of the congress house where everyone cares so deeply about everyone. The staff go above and beyond to make sure that everyone is getting the right treatment that is good for them. I liked how individualized each person’s treatment was. I am very lucky that I got to have Angela as my therapist. Angela helped me in more ways than I could ever express. This in it’s own shows how amazing and devoted the staff are to ensuring each person’s recovery. Angela was going on call (leaving as the full time therapist) but stayed an extra three months to be my therapist until I discharged. The clinical director Sam took vacation days so that Angela could come in and see me (technically Angela wasn’t supposed to come in because she was on call). because Sam knew how important it was for my recovery to continue the work with Angela. I have never been to any other treatment center that would do that or even think about doing that. That in itself made a huge impact on me that they were willing to go out of their ways to ensure I get the best possible treatment. Sam is an amazing clinical director and I really look up to her a lot. Some of the staff have been there for 8-10 years which is rare for ed treatment centers. That in itself shows how great Sam is. The groups were all great as well and the counselors are all amazing. I learned so many coping skills that I implement into my everyday life. You can also check in with your therapist as many times as you need and you can also check in with the other therapist’s as well. Dorcas and all the nurses are also amazing and go above and beyond to make sure that everyone is okay. Dr. B the medical doctor is the best doctor I have ever met in my life. I looked forward to seeing her every week! If you have the opportunity to go to this specific cfd location I 100% recommend it! It is honestly life changing.

I was a client here just discharged a few days ago thank god because 83 days is a crap load of days for a short term rtc.. and honestly this place is pretty good if you’re looking for a worthy residential that’ll benefit you. Past residentials didn’t work out for me as well as this one did, in fact they even helped me work through the struggles and trauma I experienced at prior facilities and I just want to thank everybody especially my therapist and a couple of staff (idek if I can say their names lul) but you guys genuinely taught me how to come clean towards the past stuff I’ve done, learn how to prevent excessive hospitalization/crisis, and learn to accept my struggles. Even if I had my moments (mentioning other kids too..) and was even hospitalized a few weeks into my stay, I was willing to come back and start again, which I probably would’ve never done in the past, and the fact I tried and kept going even if it was a lot on me already, family struggles, mental health, struggling with psychosis, schizoaffective, some trauma and substance/sh issues I learned to adapt towards my own life, kept myself going and eventually stabilized and helped myself in ways I could’ve never done without this specific location of DMAP please and oh my goodness if you ever think about sending your kid to a residential (for a logically and explanatory reason, for mental health support) PLEASE consider this place the staff are sososoo awesome and even if I will never see any of them again (hopefully at least here) they still are a fragment of my memory, I could technically say this whole place changed my life, which would be a little exaggerated but it helped me live on, even if life isn’t the greatest, there’s still hope, and nothing but you can make the choice of hurting yourself, reach out to someone, anyone. Permanent solutions towards your problems, that are temporary or some that are not totally curable but still manageable. It’s not the answer, help yourself. You pass alone, and you were never meant to be carried, some people are jerks, it’s just life. But that doesn’t mean anyone should effect your own personal goals, happiness, etc.. You are your own person, you won the race to be born too, that means your better than all of those unborn children, embrace it twin. Love forever, hate will only dismantle your soul and turn you into someone you were trying to avoid. Anyway 4 stars but I’d give it a 4.5 if I could #supercoolioawesomenesslennyout 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

I was here as a client in 2020 and I had a pretty positive experience. The staff were professional and caring and many of the groups were interesting. Some staff went above and beyond to help me and I still remember them. My individual therapist was especially wonderful. It’s difficult to find programs that are professional while also being warm and welcoming, but this program was exactly that. There is a lot of structure which can feel strict and limiting, but sometimes that’s what is needed to heal. I would recommend this place above anywhere else I’ve received treatment.

My daughter had been to an outpatient PHP prior to entering a residential placement. Upon discharge from residential she returned to the previous PHP. Following a few weeks, my daughter said "Mom, you are sending me to a day care center for adolescents with mental health issues that don't want to get better. This place is not helping me.". How can I ignore that statement? We changed programs immediately and attended the IOP at Discovery Mood and Health in Southport. This program was the perfect fit. Of course, my daughter hated it at first because they made her do the work. She attended IOP for approximately 2.5 months and finally made a change. Jacqui and Rob were amazing! Jacqui was tough but in all the right ways. She held us accountable and did not allow either one of us to make excuses. I don't think we would have made it this far without them.

TURNBRIDGE made all the difference! I cannot say thank you enough to the residential program and the extended care staff for the love and care and accountability and compassion they showed our family throughout my daughter’s time in Connecticut!! When she was admitted to the residential treatment program I wasn’t sure what else to try. She had already participated in a 70-day stay at a residential program in GA, Intensive Outpatient Program, individual counseling, family counseling, grief counseling, 3 acute hospitalizations and 3 inpatient adolescent psychiatric admissions. To say that I felt we had exhausted all our options is an understatement. But I am here to tell you: Turnbridge made a tremendous difference! The lessons learned during the residential program STARTED the healing and growth process for all of us. The extended care program, where there was a very gradual step-down in the number of clinical hours/therapy each day and each week, and a gradual reintroduction to the same public/societal stressors and triggers that proved too much in the past, is really where lasting change and habits began. My daughter’s case manager, Ana, has become family! Months after she returned home, Ana still checks in with us. I am so grateful to the team of seasoned professionals who saw through her grief and pain and anger and chose to help build-up the wounded and scarred girl hiding beneath it all. My 17 year old excelled in her classes this summer and is looking forward to starting her Senior Year in a few weeks. We are 180° from where we were this time last year and TURNBRIDGE will forever be part of her success story!! -a forever grateful Mother-

This place saved my life. Full stop. Incredibly caring professionals across all functions and disciplines. I am so grateful we found them. Their care and attention towards me was constant, deep, and real. They really provide the peace and atmosphere that allowed the Doctors and I to do incredible amounts of work and healing. The Doctors too were incredible, talented, and providing a very high standard of care. Food was amazing (yes it's hospital food, adjust your expectations a bit). I had steak, burritos, pho, Thai, lasagna, pasta, bbq, burgers, and more. Across 6 weeks I think they only repeated a dish 4-6 times. And there's a salad bar and panetta/sandwich bar every meal. Many kids ate grilled cheese every meal instead of grown-up food and vegetables, so I would take their complaints with a pinch of salt, hah. Reading the other reviews is amusing. Bear in mind the complaints are coming from sick people, and it is frustrating to not find a silver bullet for very real and severe illnesses. Some people enter thinking this is a spa vacation. It is not. Your healing will require you to do work on yourself as well. The more you invest in the process the more long term success you will realize (I am not a Doctor, but my peers who invested in recovery had similar progress to myself)

Silver Hill took me in when I was at the lowest point in my life. I went to several different programs during my stay and was treated with respect and care the whole time. There were the usual tiny wrinkles that comes with being in a hospital system but overall it was a wonderful hospital that has a lot of different specialties. I would highly recommend if you can afford it or have insurance coverage. I worked with Dr. Emily Haas and Micaela Scully and would also recommend them for trauma care.

After attending MCCA for an entire year, I can honestly say what an amazing and supportive program Director Laura Boff , the clinicians, and the staff have created within an underserved community like Bridgeport. The team at MCCA has taken the time to educate themselves and genuinely welcome the community they serve in an authentic and compassionate way. I am one of many clients who have received services through MCCA, and I can proudly speak to the support, understanding, and care they provide. Every session truly felt like being part of a supportive community. The stigma surrounding programs like MCCA is completely inaccurate because instead, I found a space where I felt welcomed, protected, and understood. Not only did they provide me with the support I needed throughout my recovery journey, but they also provided me and others with valuable resources and tools to continue moving forward in life. After years of trying everything we could think of, my wife and I finally found Westport House. Our son was admitted quickly and efficiently, and, from that point on, our experience was incredible. After a couple of months we saw a noticeable change in our son. The staff was very timely in their correspondence with us and always treated us appropriately. During his time there, our son became actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, obtained employment, and began treating us and others with a level of respect we did not know he was capable of. He stayed there for 7 months, and I can say, it was very much worth every penny. Our son is still sober today and continues to attend the AA meetings that he went to during his time at Westport House. We cannot thank Westport House enough for giving us our son back. After 7 painful years, the change that he was able to make in his life is incredible, and it is all thanks to the great staff and services at Westport House.

The atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, and the incredibly supportive! Being able to see their therapists and clinical team was also essential in aiding my recovery. I'm so grateful for the life Westport House gave me.

Family Service League has been a true lifeline for our family. The entire staff is compassionate, professional, and genuinely dedicated to helping people in need. From the moment we met with Robyn and Mary through Joe’ Project, we felt supported. We are incredibly grateful for the guidance and support they’ve provided. I truly don’t know where we would be without them. Cathy and Donna leading our support group have been warm and welcoming and a perfect complement to our time with Joes Project. This team has been a true blessing to our entire family. The staff is warm, caring, and truly committed to helping families and individuals through challenging times. They offer so many valuable resources and programs, even providing resources and guidance to our school district. Everything is handled with professionalism and compassion. You can tell they genuinely care about the people they serve. I’m so grateful for the support they’ve provided and would highly recommend FSL to anyone in need of guidance or assistance.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Family Service League of Long Island and the dedicated professionals who have supported our family through unimaginable loss. In a time of overwhelming grief, they provided more than just counseling, they offered genuine compassion, patience, and understanding. Thanks to the Family Service League’s incredible team, I found community in a time of deep isolation. I will be forever grateful for the compassionate care they provided and continue to provide for so many families in need.

This program was an eye-opener. It didn't just tell me 'don't drink,' but actually taught me practical skills to handle peer pressure and manage stress without relying on alcohol. The focus on setting personal goals and understanding my own triggers was incredibly empowering. I feel much more confident in making healthier choices for my future. The staff go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of not just myself, but all participants. They are currently a staple in my life and I would not have it any other way. I cannot thank this group of individuals enough for helping me get myself back.

I was a Patient there for approximately 9 months. A Wonderful Atmosphere and you’re surrounded by ppl who Really Care. Especially the Counselors, My Counselor in Particular. Her Name was Jenn. A Wonderful Person and an Absolute Dear young Lady. She was Extremely informative and Knows just how to make you feel Comfortable and Cared For. I was going through a Rough patch, but looked Forward to my meetings with her every week and Every time I left her office, I ALWAYS FELT BETTER AND FELT LIKE SOMEONE CARED.. I can Honestly Say, Meeting Jenn was a Highlight of my Time there. I only left there because I found a place Much Closer to my home out East. But my Counselor there will always be close to my heart. And I Thank Her Dearly. All in all, a Wonderful Place to Get Clean and Stay Clean 👍🏻😁

Just being in a room with people around the same age who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues was a game-changer for my daughter, it made a huge difference. I will say that it's more for people with drug/alcohol issues because her problems were more anxiety and depression related rather than substance but a lot of the discussions and focus were on ways to stay sober. But some of the strategies and coping skills were very useful to her and has helped her in her recovery. The therapists there were caring and gained her trust to the point that even now she sometimes misses the camaraderie and support she felt there.
