My husband had an emergency requiring hospitalization and treatment on March 20-24. His dedicated doctors and nurses on the 4th floor saved his life and we’ll be forever grateful. We call this situation “divine intervention” because we were on a flight to Honolulu on our way to our mainland home when the Kona storms grounded all Honolulu air traffic and we were redirected to Maui. While on the ground there, he became seriously ill. The EMTs arrived swiftly and recognized his dangerous situation. Upon arrival at MMMC, he was quickly tested, diagnosed, and scheduled for a procedure on Saturday morning, followed by surgery on Sunday morning. Had we made our flight to the mainland, it’s doubtful that he would have survived. The people of Maui are so very fortunate to have this facility and its incredible staff. Mahalo to all involved! We are a honeymoon couple visiting from South Korea. Following a near-drowning accident at the beach, my husband was rushed to the emergency room and admitted to the hospital. The medical team responded with incredible speed and expertise. Their prompt and appropriate treatment truly saved him. Their compassionate care extended not only to my husband but also to me. While I was waiting, a staff member thoughtfully handed me a warm blanket. This kind gesture gave me great comfort. From the emergency room to the general ward, every doctor, nurse, and staff member we encountered was so kind. They listened patiently to my husband, who doesn't speak much English, making sure he felt completely at ease. They provided him with everything he needed to recover. Thank you for your exceptional care and for making it possible for us to return home safely together. We will forever carry the warmth you showed us in our hearts. From the moment I arrived, the team was accommodating, opened their doors without hesitation, and consistently put my best interests first. In a field where programs can feel rigid or profit-driven, HIR stood out for its pragmatic, patient-centered approach. Their holistic therapy model is modern, layered, and actually produces results. I received comprehensive care that included multiple forms of psychotherapy, EMDR, Parts work, somatic experiencing, massage therapy, acupuncture, and regular yoga. Beyond the clinical work, they provided substantial education on addiction and trauma that gave me a much clearer understanding of the underlying issues I was dealing with. I was at an absolute low point in my life and this place completely turned things around. The staff was extremely friendly and caring, some have years of recovery themselves so they’re also very easy to relate to. The meetings they took us to were extremely helpful and even fun! Delicious home cooked meals are prepared everyday by a wonderful Chef, yum. I stayed 30 days but wish I could have stayed the full 90. I still go back on alumni days and Big Book Studies to stay in touch with everyone there, I love HIR! As you see this hospital means a lot to me and my family. But this time was different when we're back for our fourth baby. While admitted at The Queen’s Medical Center for the birth of our fourth baby, my husband used the hospital valet service on 5/13/2026 at around 11:30 AM as I was going into active labor. Our vehicle remained in valet custody overnight. The following day, Thursday on March 14, 2026, around 11:00 AM, my husband retrieved the vehicle to run errands and discovered that the inside of our van had clearly been rummaged through. Cash and other small personal items were missing. A report was immediately made to hospital security, and a statement was taken. While the amount stolen may be considered minor, the violation of privacy and trust during such a vulnerable and important family moment is extremely upsetting. We understand valuables should never be left in vehicles, but patients and families should still be able to expect professionalism, honesty, and security from a hospital valet service — especially during overnight stays connected to medical care and childbirth. This is a belated thank you to all the wonderful, caring, and skilled people we met at Maui Memorial. My husband had an emergency requiring hospitalization and treatment on March 20-24. His dedicated doctors and nurses on the 4th floor saved his life and we’ll be forever grateful. We call this situation “divine intervention” because we were on a flight to Honolulu on our way to our mainland home when the Kona storms grounded all Honolulu air traffic and we were redirected to Maui. While on the ground there, he became seriously ill. The EMTs arrived swiftly and recognized his dangerous situation. Upon arrival at MMMC, he was quickly tested, diagnosed, and scheduled for a procedure on Saturday morning, followed by surgery on Sunday morning. Had we made our flight to the mainland, it’s doubtful that he would have survived. The people of Maui are so very fortunate to have this facility and its incredible staff. Mahalo to all involved! We are deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and all the staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center for saving my husband’s life. We are a honeymoon couple visiting from South Korea. Following a near-drowning accident at the beach, my husband was rushed to the emergency room and admitted to the hospital. The medical team responded with incredible speed and expertise. Their prompt and appropriate treatment truly saved him. Their compassionate care extended not only to my husband but also to me. While I was waiting, a staff member thoughtfully handed me a warm blanket. This kind gesture gave me great comfort. From the emergency room to the general ward, every doctor, nurse, and staff member we encountered was so kind. They listened patiently to my husband, who doesn't speak much English, making sure he felt completely at ease. They provided him with everything he needed to recover. Thank you for your exceptional care and for making it possible for us to return home safely together. We will forever carry the warmth you showed us in our hearts. Mahalo for everything!

I completed 86-days at Hawaiian Island Recovery, and it was genuinely one of the most effective and supportive treatment experiences I’ve had. From the moment I arrived, the team was accommodating, opened their doors without hesitation, and consistently put my best interests first. In a field where programs can feel rigid or profit-driven, HIR stood out for its pragmatic, patient-centered approach. Their holistic therapy model is modern, layered, and actually produces results. I received comprehensive care that included multiple forms of psychotherapy, EMDR, Parts work, somatic experiencing, massage therapy, acupuncture, and regular yoga. Beyond the clinical work, they provided substantial education on addiction and trauma that gave me a much clearer understanding of the underlying issues I was dealing with. The integration of these modalities felt thoughtful rather than scattered, it addressed both the mind and the body in a way that built real momentum in recovery. The facility itself is exceptional. The house is by far the most luxurious and comfortable treatment environment I’ve experienced. The food was outstanding, nutritious, flavorful, and the chef was always willing to accommodate dietary needs or preferences. Daily life there felt supportive rather than institutional. The house managers are compassionate people who truly understand what residents are going through. Most notably, my case manager Chevone was outstanding. She is highly competent, deeply understanding, and acted as a strong advocate for my needs throughout the program. She was a keystone figure in my time at HIR, coordinating care, pushing for what was truly helpful, and keeping everything aligned with my recovery goals. If you’re serious about addressing addiction and trauma with a high-end, integrative program that doesn’t cut corners on comfort or clinical depth, I would recommend Hawaiian Island Recovery without hesitation. The combination of clinical excellence, luxury accommodations, and genuinely caring staff made a real difference for me.

HIR was exactly what I needed! I was at an absolute low point in my life and this place completely turned things around. The staff was extremely friendly and caring, some have years of recovery themselves so they’re also very easy to relate to. The meetings they took us to were extremely helpful and even fun! Delicious home cooked meals are prepared everyday by a wonderful Chef, yum. I stayed 30 days but wish I could have stayed the full 90. I still go back on alumni days and Big Book Studies to stay in touch with everyone there, I love HIR!

I did 60 days at the residential program and it genuinely changed my life. This wasn’t my first time in rehab I’d been to two other facilities on the mainland that didn’t stick. What was different here is that they built my treatment plan around me specifically, not a one-size-fits-all schedule. The therapists actually listened. The staff-to-client ratio is small so you’re not just a number. Frank and Fernando were incredible to work with during individual and group sessions. Being on the Big Island away from my usual environment and triggers gave me space to actually focus. I’ve been sober since completing the program and I credit this place for that.

The Ohana changed my life! I have immense gratitude and love for this place, my entire experience, and all that I gained from my time and relationships here. The staff, in particular, my therapist Joseph, were instrumental in my recovery process and helping me to find my footing again. I feel so thankful that I was able to find this treatment center, especially considering my poor experience at treatment centers in the past. The Ohana helped me realize that you CAN heal! There is so much nature and beauty that clients are exposed to every single day and the adventure therapy (Huaka'i) grants you so many opportunities to see other parts of the beautiful Big Island. The Ohana is life changing, it brings a beautiful renewal into your life and puts you back in control without addiction. The best investment in myself I’ve ever made! Ohana means family. That’s what you find here! You live alongside others from around the world, small intimate group of up to 8. Getting to know each other and each other’s story is beautiful, laughing together and at times crying with each other. Brothers and sisters are what you leave with. It’s profound! I was scheduled for a biopsy at Castle when I had to wait for months other places… first I was impressed w the entire team: registration, team of nurses in outpatient pre surgery, the techs in the CT scan room, the radiologist n then the team of nurses in outpatient post surgery..the care was beyond what I have been getting at other hospitals.. THANK YOU FOR CARING!! N that’s WHAT HEALTH CARE IS ABOUT!! How patient ARE CARED FOR rather than what and how much money you have in order to receive care!! I had cardiac cath at Castle Hospital and it was my first time there. The parking is a lot better than queens straub pali momi in many ways. I was homeless and addicted on the streets of Honolulu for more than a year and a half. I did not successfully complete the entire program. The tools that I had obtained at SITC has kept me sober since September 7, 2017. I now work and reside at the Coolfont Resort in Berkeley Springs West Virginia. I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given there. I will take with me everything I learned there. The staff is incredible. There is not a better treatment out there I think which sounds biast though that's how I feel. I learned so much in the short time I was there. Forever they have left a mark on my soul. I have two family members who have attended WHEA and they loved learning at this school. The teachers treat the students with respect and encourage self-directed learning, although the teachers remain available to help. I had a genuinely great experience during my stay at detox. I went in expecting to be miserable and counting the minutes until I could leave, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. I met some really solid people who were going through the same thing, and having that support made the whole process not just manageable, but surprisingly enjoyable. The staff was friendly, supportive, and went out of their way to help me with applications and next steps for treatment. It honestly felt like a much‑needed break from real life—a chance to step back, reset, and really look at my goals and where I want my life to go. By the end, I actually didn’t want to leave, which still makes me laugh. I’m hoping this is a once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience, but if I ever do need help again, I know exactly where to go. Thank you to the entire ATS Detox team for being such an important part of the beginning of my sober journey. One day at a time, and I’m grateful you were there at the start.

I love Queen's and had given birth to all my 3 children there, that even my mom gave birth to me there as well. As you see this hospital means a lot to me and my family. But this time was different when we're back for our fourth baby. While admitted at The Queen’s Medical Center for the birth of our fourth baby, my husband used the hospital valet service on 5/13/2026 at around 11:30 AM as I was going into active labor. Our vehicle remained in valet custody overnight. The following day, Thursday on March 14, 2026, around 11:00 AM, my husband retrieved the vehicle to run errands and discovered that the inside of our van had clearly been rummaged through. Cash and other small personal items were missing. A report was immediately made to hospital security, and a statement was taken. While the amount stolen may be considered minor, the violation of privacy and trust during such a vulnerable and important family moment is extremely upsetting. We understand valuables should never be left in vehicles, but patients and families should still be able to expect professionalism, honesty, and security from a hospital valet service — especially during overnight stays connected to medical care and childbirth. We hope management takes this matter seriously and properly investigates the incident.
