Just wanted to say thanks to the wonderful staff at EHR for helping me reestablish my path in recovery. EHR was a super nice facility, and provided a safe holding environment for me to stabilize and establish a long term plan for success in recovery. After weeks of jumping through hoops. Getting a referral, drug and alcohol assessment, psych evaluation, then being put on a waiting list. Calling every mon wed fri as instructed, I was finally told they would not take me because I did not have permanent housing and...I HAD BEEN CLEAN TOO LONG. 6 weeks I thought that was a good thing. So should I have gone out and used to better my chances. What a messed up organization. Still can't help but wonder if race played a part.

Been to rehab a dozen times over last 15 years and never stayed sober long enough to hit my one year sober until I went through the Honu house program. I did 90 days. Super chill, 12-step based, but not hardcore militaristic like some gnarly programs. It’s co-ed, in a beautiful house on the mountain in Kona with a view of the ocean about a mile and a half away. I thought it was great because it wasn’t a super crazy packed schedule everyday, they understand the value of personal time. Fun outings, gym time, meditations, yoga, weekly massages!!! Spoiled!! JB and Nick are awesome guys, I highly recommend.

During our recent trip to the Big Island, my husband experienced a sudden medical emergency and underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy at Kona Community Hospital. As Canadians navigating a healthcare system away from home, we were incredibly anxious — but from the moment we arrived, our experience exceeded every expectation.
There were no wait times in the ER, and the care was immediate, professional, and compassionate. A very special thank you to Dr. Zelko, whose expertise and calm demeanor reassured us throughout the process. The ER Nurses, Luke and Alyssa, were exceptional — attentive, kind, and efficient.
The surgical team, ICU nurses, and the very kind anesthesiologist provided outstanding care before, during, and after the operation. We felt seen, heard, and cared for every step of the way.
We are so thankful to the entire staff for making a stressful experience feel safe and supported. Kona Community Hospital, you truly made a difference. Mahalo!

I was a bit worried about having to go to an emergency room on Labor Day. Such a pleasant experience, the receptionist was polite and helpful, I was immediately taken to a room greeted by a healthcare worker who took down all my information, the nurse came in, explained that the doctor would be in shortly the doctor did come in, gave me the pain medication that I needed and treated my wound in a very timely matter.
