I was there in 2020 for 8 months. I lived in the cottages in the residential program and it honestly changed my life. I came as this aggressive 15 year old who couldn't control her emotions to a 16 year old with self awareness and coping skills. My therapist was the best one I've ever had, and I met some staff that truly changed my life. But I also met some staff that caused me to have worse ptsd. I'am happy to hear it closed last year, bc it did need some work but I really think it should open again.

So upset this treatment center is closing!! Typical corporate decision. I am alive today because of their treatment. Clean & sober for 15 years with no desire to drink, do drugs, and/or binging on both. The comments from the new owners were disrespectful and ignorant about the process. Treatment is not easy in any program, but if it saves lives why end it. Shame on you Universal Healthcare! Many lives will be lost by closing this hospital.

I feel like it needs to be said that no one will kick an addiction in 10 days. Even the traditional 28 days won't end the addiction. There are no shortcuts to the life long journey you are embarking on, if you choose sobriety. What Schick does - is give you the tools, and take away the cravings so you can handle this huge life shift. I have been abusing alcohol for 8 years and finally decided I needed professional help. Schick is working so far for me. I've been 81 days sober as of today. What the treatment is like: There is a daily schedule of meds, vitals, and group. You will spend the mid morning through mid afternoon either completing a sleepy (propofol conscious sedation treatment where they ask you a series of questions related to getting sober, and staying sober) and counseling, or a duffy (ipecac aversion treatment where they give you ipecac and then have you drink alcohol. you quickly become ill to associate drinking with nausea.). Late afternoon are various groups. Pros: -The medical director at the hospital is a true patient advocator. Sabrina is incredible. -The community. I felt safe sharing in group, and gained some friends I imagine will be with me for life. -The counselor John. I've been going to therapy the past ten years, but HE is my favorite person I've talked through my mental health with. Compassionate, empathetic, just a good listener, and has great life advice. He's been there done that, and helped me see some great perspective. His lectures are also my favorite. -The program. Schick gives all of the same literature that any other rehab gives, but also has the aversion therapy, and sedation treatment. -The resources. The media wall, the counselors, the lectures, the movies, the hypnosis videos, the 4 agreements, etc. There are so many resources it was hard to take them all in. But theyre all powerful and have continued to help me outside of Schick. Cons: -The nursing staff. For the most part I didn't have a problem. But some of the staff had no bedside manner whatsoever. Some said misogynistic comments. Some did room checks late at night with little regard to patients sleeping. Some argued with other nurses in front of me. Either the nurse was great or the nurse was pretty unprofessional. And I didn't see much inbetween. -Not a diverse group at all. As a black queer female I felt out of place here. It's mostly white men in their 30s and 40s.

i was at newport for 55 days and it was quite possibly the scariest time of my life. i was struggling with ptsd, depression, SH and SI, and this place turned all of that around in less than 2 months. i know not everyone’s experience is the same and people are going to view residential treatments differently, but going here genuinely saved my life and my relationship with my parents. i’m almost an adult and have a job straight out of treatment, which wasn’t even a possibility where i was before going there. shoutout to the cc’s and my pod (pine) as well as the amazing chef, i miss him dearly and i hope he’s well. and of course the clinical team (counselor, individual therapist, family therapist). i do miss being there and it was a scary and anxiety-inducing but also incredibly helpful and healing chapter of my life.

Newport saved our daughter and set our family on a stable path to recovery. Last fall we were losing our daughter to mental health challenges, PTSD and increasingly unsafe behaviors. It took 3 tries to get her to commit to Newport, but after the first few weeks of adjustment, she made more therapeutic progress with the team at Newport than in all of the other interventions we've tried to date (years of CBT therapy, DBT skills, and peer groups) . We are now 3 months out from her discharge and we still have moments of stress but Newport put us back on the same team in terms of addressing challenges together and we have been super impressed with how our 15yo is using skills to navigate the tough moments. We are extremely grateful to the Newport team for everything they did to get through to our child and earn her trust in their process.

I have been through four rehabs. I came to ATA because my attorney sent me to them. I was arrested for DUI. My checkered past with rehabs came from jobs or family members pressuring me. I ignored everything until I was arrested. I had a blackout and drove. I could have killed people. Everyday I see the news and read about people who drive drunk and killed people. I am blessed not to be in the news. My assessment from ATA opened my eyes. I have had a lot of violence and trauma in my life, but I have to take responsibility for my choices in life. I am grateful for the compassion and guidelines i got from the relapse prevention program. ATA did everything to make me grow. They did not lock me into a never ending program for their own profit.

I transfered to Wecare for a while it's way closer to my home. But I'm not daily, and they will work with you, from where you are. They'll get around all the unnecessary red tape and BS they can, and every time I make my dose, it's high 5s and smiles all the way from the staff. They make you feel wanted, and you can't exaggerate how much some of us need that now. To me, it's worth the extra few miles... I'm driving though, not everyone has been as lucky as me on that so this is just my calculation and experience. Chin up. Anyway yeah it's great for a methadone place. They're totally good enough. And in this industry that should be celebrated.

I'm doing everything in my power (which isn't much 😂) to make it there tomorrow (Thurs) for an intake to get Chris M back, cause he's the best psych I ever had. In case you're reading this Chris, I miss you buddy! I have just been stuck in debilating depression and couldn't even make it out of my room, let alone my bed, for months. It gets THAT bad. So I kept missing apts and eventually Sound had to kick me off because I wasn't showing up at all. I am praying to God that I can get Chris M back as my psych, because not only do I need one, but I do need med management and I need someone to talk to about things with that isn't a friend or AA. i’m not sure if she still works with sound health but jessica was a wonderful psychologist for me. living in seattle was hell and weekly appointments with her made it bearable. although the northgate building is in a rough area, Jessica and staff alike created a home-like environment for me and i was able to rely on it heavily. even a year + later the warmth and kindness shown to me by jessica, kate, and carly ruminate in my mind like a safety blanket. dr.pascoe was lovely as well. weekly dbt and relationship group meetings including other like minded teens provided me with a sense of belonging and family. with an abusive home life and challenging school environment, the group therapy i attended was the loving community i needed. i still have the therapy worksheets as memories and references from our sessions together. i think about them often and hope their doing well. the impact they’ve had on me is immeasurable, and for that i’m truly so grateful. i miss them dearly, as they were a resource for me when i was desperate for an outlet. someday i hope to provide someone with the same compassion and support that was given to me. the gratitude i hold for them is infinite, i wouldn’t be where i am today without them. ❤️🥹

I just wished I knew about the John Volken Academy before I sent our son to Lakeside Milam twice and once to Schick Shadle. As we thought that they knew what they were doing and they really was only into it for the insurance money. No communication about how our son was doing or what we need to do for him. I just don't understand like they tell you it takes villageput they refuse to communicate with us. I just wish things were different then maybe he would have been alive today. ICS was the best choice for me and changed my life for the better. I didn’t want a recovery program based on faith or a higher power - I wanted one like ICS - grounded in a holistic view of health, psychology and compassion. ICS is the most wonderful, supportive, unique, caring and committed group of people I have encountered in my recovery process. I have been on this journey for 9+ years, and ICS has been apart of it the entire time. The space created by Dennis in my group sessions, is beyond the words I am going to use..he is informative, brilliant with his delivery, kind and sensitive to each individual, honors everyones place in life, offers such incredible support to the group as a whole. Scott has been my individual therapist for almost two years, and I have expanded into a new person because of him. The care, attention to my well-being, the emotionally safe space he has created, has allowed to me understand who I truly am. I can not thank the team of ICS for their care and commitment to helping the folks that come to them. For showing up the way that they do every session and for fully offering every bit of knowledge they can to the ones that want to do the work with them. I would not be in the place that I am, living my best life, with more compassion and understanding of who I am and how I want to show up in the world, if it were not for ICS being apart of my life.

I have been with STOP Tacoma for a little over a year now since getting my DUI. At first it was a hard pill to swallow, but I am so grateful for my counselor Tiffani who has given me the support and guidance I need to be successful. She has a heart of gold and always goes above and beyond. It feels good to know you have someone in your corner. This has been such a transformative journey that I never would have considered otherwise. Being sober is actually really nice! Sometimes life has it's way of showing us a different path, and I'm grateful it landed at STOP.

I’m not the one to leave reviews but Tiffany deserves it! I have had many councilors in my lifetime but not like her. Tiffany will always have a place in my heart. If you want someone real, understanding and someone you can always count on, ask for her.
