From the helicopter transport team who brought him to St. Luke’s Hospital, to the physicians, nurses, and social workers in the ICU, every person we encountered treated him with dignity, respect, and genuine kindness. We are especially grateful for the way you kept us informed, answered every question with patience, and even took moments to speak to our dad as if he could hear you. That compassion meant more than words can fully express.
We are also deeply thankful to the Iowa Donor Network team for their guidance, support, and care throughout the donation process. Knowing that he was able to give to others has brought our family a measure of comfort in an incredibly difficult time.

Barring medical needs that sent me to St, Luke’s, ALL staff were pleasant and professional. From top to bottom the care was phenomenal to me as an individual, not by my patient number. Beyond hospitable by providing anything I could possibly need and they even gave my husband an evening snack bag so that he wouldn’t have to leave my side. I appreciated the communication between the rounding physician and surgical doctors and myself so I maintained autonomy in my own healthcare decisions. 10/10 stars!

If it wasn't for this clinic and all the wonderful people there, my life would be in shambles. If it wasn't for Medicaid, I could never afford daily doses and if it wasn't for The Way Shuttle picking me up six days a week for almost 3 years straight, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's been a rough journey but well worth the persistence I put in to get this far. One Day At A Time!

I’ve unfortunately been in recovery several times at ASAC. They really do care. However, they can’t do the work for you. I’ve always been given good advice on how to move forward after treatment, but get sober and think we’re Superman. I learned a lot. Now, how bad do we want sobriety?

Asac has changed my life not once but twice! I had 7 years of real recovery when I left in 2018. When I relapsed I went back and they dug deeper into my trauma with me to find the root cause of my addiction and are helping me thoroughly examine every aspect to prevent another relapse. I am grateful everyday for my new journey into recovery. They took a chance on me when others gave up hope. 💫✨

I was the last person they accepted that day totalling 4 of us. I had to wait until each person in front of me was done, about 45 mins to 1 hour each. I was there a total of about 5 hours beginning to end. At the end you schedule a follow-up and it was 3 weeks out. Once you check in theoretically you could leave but about 2 hours in the called me in to verify my financial info. So I just stayed.

We are a pregnant woman and her friend from Vietnam, currently living and working near this hospital.
My friend and I do not speak English, but we came here for a prenatal checkup, blood tests, and an ultrasound without an appointment. We were truly surprised and deeply touched by how caring and welcoming everyone was. There was no discrimination at all, and they did not require insurance documents, which was our biggest concern.
They were very willing to help us and even assisted us with the process of applying for insurance for the expectant mother. The entire team was professional, kind, and compassionate. The hospital was extremely clean, like a large hotel.
When we first arrived, we felt very nervous because of the language barrier, but they kindly provided interpretation services online for us. Within just a few hours, they completed all the tests, including blood work, urine tests, and ultrasound.
We are very grateful and will always remember this experience. America is truly compassionate—especially here in Dubuque, Iowa, where the doctors and medical staff are not only skilled but also ethical and kind-hearted.
We also noticed Christian statues and images in the hospital, which made us feel even more comforted and trusting.
We sincerely hope they will continue to support us in obtaining insurance so that she can receive proper prenatal care and give birth safely in the future.
Thank God and all the talented and compassionate doctors and healthcare staff.

Each of us have our own experiences and interpretations of “What is a Good Health Care Team’” where you feel heard, there is respect, there is follow through, and YOU are an active team member. My Health Care Team — made up of multiple specialists across several facilities led by one of the most fabulous medical quarterbacks — Dr Reith — with numerous other coordinating specialists — De Andrade et al. Despite other Iowa Health Care Facility choices, it is my opinion that University of Iowa Health Care System has some of the best health care specialists in Iowa City— that are truly patient centered that will allow you to become a part of a strong health care team.
