FreshPath Recovery came through for me when I thought I was outta options. From day one, the vibe was chill and welcoming — no judgment, just real ones who get what you’re going through. The staff? Straight-up lifesavers. They kept it honest, pushed me when I needed it, and always had my back. What hit different here was how personal everything felt. They weren’t just clocking in — they actually cared. The detox was tough, no lie, but they made sure I felt supported every step. I walked out with a clear head, a stronger mindset, and a plan. If you’re ready to bounce back, FreshPath is the move.

Mahaska Health provided excellent care during my husband’s surgery, and everyone we interacted with was kind, capable, and attentive. When our car broke down the day before, a hospital employee who had just finished her shift noticed our situation and helped us get the vehicle safely into a parking spot. After my husband’s surgery the next day, a member of the admissions team went out of her way to arrange transportation for us without us even asking. Those thoughtful gestures made a stressful time so much easier. We’re truly grateful for the care and kindness we received.

Honestly I was just trying to get through the day at that point. But being there felt… different than I thought it would. The first thing I noticed was how people talked to me. Not in that overly careful way, just normal. That actually mattered more than I expected. I didn’t feel like I had to explain myself too much or pretend I was okay when I wasn’t.Detox itself was still rough, I’m not gonna pretend it wasn’t. There were a couple of days where I was just sitting there thinking why did I even start this. But someone was always checking in, sometimes just briefly, sometimes longer, and it kind of kept me from drifting too far into my own head. What stuck with me isn’t even one specific moment. It’s more the general feeling that people were paying attention without making it a big thing. Like they cared, but didn’t overdo it. Hard to explain exactly.By the time I left, I didn’t suddenly feel like a completely different person or anything dramatic like that. Just… steadier, I guess. A bit more clear. And that was enough to feel like I could keep going from there.I’d probably tell someone to give it a try if they’re on the fence. It’s not perfect, but it helped me more than I expected. 🙏

What stood out to me over time was how connected the staff actually felt as a team, though I didn’t fully notice it right away. From intake through daily check ins, people seemed to know what was going on with me without needing me to repeat the same details over and over, which was a relief I didn’t expect. Nurses, counselors, support staff, and coordinators worked together in a way that felt intentional and respectful, not rushed or scattered.
I never felt passed around or overlooked, even on quieter days. Small things started to matter more than big gestures, like someone remembering my goals or noticing when I was having an off day without me saying much. Group sessions were guided well, but not overcontrolled, and one on one time felt focused, not hurried, which made it easier to stay present.
There was a balance between professionalism and something more human that I hadn’t really experienced before. I’m in my mid twenties and tend to be skeptical by default, so trust doesn’t come easily for me. Still, this place earned it over time, mostly because the people running things actually communicated with each other.
That consistency created a sense of safety and momentum, even on harder days when motivation was low. It wasn’t flashy or impressive on the surface, but it was solid, and for me, that made all the difference.

When I arrived at KIA Detox, I wasn’t sure I could really make progress again, or if I was just repeating the same cycle. The first few days were challenging, but instead of pushing me to look too far ahead, the program helped me focus on small steps, which made things feel less overwhelming. As time went on, I started noticing changes in how I handled stress and how consistently I showed up for daily routines, though it didn’t feel dramatic in the moment. Each milestone, getting through detox, staying engaged in therapy, added a bit more confidence, even on days when I still doubted myself. The staff kept the focus on growth rather than setbacks, which mattered more than constant reassurance. By the end of my stay, I could see the progress more clearly looking back than I could while I was in it. I didn’t leave feeling finished, but I did feel more prepared to continue recovery with a sense of stability and a little more confidence than before.

Des Moines, IA | Located in Des Moines, Iowa, Powell Chemical Dependency Center offers alcohol and drug addiction treatment programming for men and women. If you have substance use and men | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Powell saved my life. Was there during Christmas of 2024 and it was the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself. Amazing 24/7 nurse staff that literally saved my life in the middle of the night. An amazing counselor team, men and women’s therapists that were actually some of the easiest therapists I’ve ever gotten to talk to. Couldn’t recommend a better place to help you recover.
And honestly, the people giving one star reviews and such are people that do not want to recover. This place is not a hotel or a spa that’s gonna rub your feet through the process. You are going to be sober 100% if you do what they tell you and that’s that. When I was there I would see people constantly go up to ER (needed) and come back a week later looking so much healthier and active. Never ever ever would I imagine Powell to turn people away unless they were completely full or even recommend someone to go somewhere else. I said it already but I’ll say it again, these people did not want to get sober, period.

The staff at Powell are the kindest, most caring and attentive people. Matt takes an interest in every patient. The councilors are available anytime to talk. The facility is clean and quiet.
AA and NA meetings are attended daily with small group and community groups for healing and therapeutic purposes. Each patient is an individual and many small focus groups are held to give more pointed treatment.
Inpatient treatment is compassionate and still individualized. Outpatient and Continuing Care keep patients focused and recovery driven.
I am grateful for my experience and recovery is within your grasp.

I have been going to UCS for over 10 years now for everything from medication assisted treatment to mental health care to getting a check up. I felt the need to write a review because I have noticed a significant change in the way patients are being treated and it is amazing to see that they are no longer putting a focus on punitive ideology and instead are listening to the reason for the trouble they are having. It is very refreshing to see. I also have a Human Services degree and a focus on getting my CADC certification so I can help people who are now going through what I spent years of my life trying to get past. I have seen a shift from the status quo and punishment for cannabis related issues. Which is also a big reason I am able to cope with PTSD and not even think about taking another painkiller for my own reasons. I hope that I can see a further bridging of the disconnect that still remains within the treatment community between patients and caregivers. It is a good start UCS!! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO US!!

I had to take alcohol classes at Urban dreams December 2024, and I can honestly say it was a very positive experience. The staff at Urban Dreams were always professionals, respectful, and supportive, which made the process much easier to go through.
Our Instructor, Kristen Steele, went above and beyond in every class. She was not only knowledgeable but also approachable, making sure that everyone felt comfortable and understood the material. Kristen shared a lot of valuable information that wasn't just about completing a requirement, but about really learning how alcohol can impact our lives and how to make better choices moving forward.
I also had a substance abuse evaluation with Felicia Chumley, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She is one of the kindest, most attentive people I've met in this process. Felicia made feel completely comfortable from the start, which really helped me open up and be honest about my situation. Felicia made what could have been a stressful experience into something positive and encouraging.
I would definitely recommend Urban Dreams to anyone who needs this classes or simply wants to gain more understanding about alcohol and its effects.

I mostly go there for the food pantry and they have different food every day, including lots of fancy stuff from whole foods and the like.

Chariton, IA | Lucas County Counseling is a community based outpatient addiction treatment program located in Chariton, Iowa serving clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. The program offers flexible outpatient therapy for adults, teens, veterans, and LGBTQ clients with dual diagnosis care integrated into its services. Con | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Love this clinic and Amy and Chris but I will not recommend Dr Johnson! He’s caused a huge mess with a simple physical for football. Had to go back to the hospital as he didn’t send the whole pack with us for the school just to sign a release for it to be fax.

I would like to give our heart felt thanks to Dr Gorski, Miranda and Kendall on July 26 when they made the decision to have Brian air lifted to Des Moines. If they had not he would not be here today!!!
They are the epitome of knowledge, caring and dedication to their field!! Thank you
