Took my first grippy sock vacation here today. It was very nice. The crisis stabilization unit let me keep my phone, and you're allowed to come and go as you wish, which was encouraging. They were very kind to me during my stay and accommodated a few special needs I had. I am glad that I went, and I would recommend the CSU on Hayes Dr in Manhattan to anyone feeling in crisis, hopeless, or wanting to not exist.

Our family is incredibly grateful for the excellent care our child received at Stormont Vail Behavioral Health. From the very beginning, the staff showed compassion, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping our child heal.
What stood out most was what our child shared with us after their stay. They spoke so highly of two staff members, Mudeetha and Donnie, saying how both of them made a real difference. Our child told us how motivated they felt because of the support and encouragement they received from both Mudeetha and Donnie throughout her stay. It meant the world to hear our child talk about feeling seen, heard, and cared for during a very vulnerable time.
We can't thank Stormont Vail Behavioral Health enough for the positive impact they had on our child.

I've had 2 different stays here within the past 2 months and I was freaked out my first stay being a in a new environment and everything but due to the help and everything I received it made that first stay very comfortable and then I knew going back a 2nd time wouldn't be too hard for me and I really was happy with how some of the nurses and therapy folk remembered me from the first stay and how nice it was when they kept asking me how I was doing everyday while I was there the 2nd go around and especially after having some other medical issues that kept me feeling crappy and the staff was more then accommodating to help me out the remainder of my days there and just got home a couple days ago from being there and im still having some issues and stuff mentally but I know if I need to go back I won't be too freaked out about it and know I will receive the best care that they can give me, so thank you for helping me when I've been there...

Warning about Mosaic’s Billing Department: A Cautionary Tale
My daughter was seen at Mosaic in January and February of 2025. She’s had the same insurance for over a decade. Yet Mosaic failed to submit the claims to her insurer within the required six-month window. I was never notified of any issue until September—when I received a single letter stating the account had already been sent to collections.
From January to September, I had no reason to believe anything was wrong. I assumed the insurance had paid, as they always had. But Mosaic never filed the claim. When I contacted their billing department, I was told they sent one notice in September. One. No phone calls, no emails, no follow-up. No opportunity to apply for financial assistance or resolve the issue before collections.
I had to do their job—dig through old claims to prove they had my insurance on file, which they denied. Even after my insurance company worked with them to allow a resubmission, Mosaic continued to submit the claims incorrectly. Now I’m being harassed by a collection agency during work hours because of their incompetence.
Mosaic’s billing department failed to follow basic procedures, ignored their own guidelines, and shifted the burden onto me. If you’re considering care through Mosaic, be warned: their billing practices are negligent, and their communication is nonexistent.

Topeka, KS | Located in Topeka, Kansas, Mirror, Inc.’s Topeka Residential Treatment Program is a drug and alcohol rehab center for adults. They offer medication assisted treatment, residential treatment, and outpatient services. They accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid, and also offer grant funding for people who qualify. Here, they believe | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This is a good option if you need help with addiction recovery. My feedback about the 28 day program is that this is a serious, vigorous road to get better.
Mirror also guides clients on to the next step, which is often an Oxford House or other sober living plan. They'll help with vocational rehab and making contacts in the community-like churches and alumni willing to help.
My counselor Jamie is the best but all the staff are devoted to clients.
The other clients in recovery will be all sorts with different backgrounds. You will make friends with as many or as few sober people as you like! Family and friends visitation is once a week. An optional 2 mile jog and weights are available for exercise. The food is plentiful and you will have a chore. Chores are.loke helping in the kitchen or mopping floors, etc.
Call ahead for a bed as there is sometimes a wait-list.
Don't expect easy and fun, and expect lots of AA/NA meetings. But there's plenty of downtime for TV, reading and an occasional nap.
This and Velejo are probably your best 2 options for addiction recovery in Topeka.

I came in from Leavenworth having never been to treatment before & unsure of what to expect. In the first 5 minutes of arrival I was met by Nick & Gordon who (along with the other amazing staff) helped guide me through my recovery journey. I felt like I was in the right place immediately. All of the staff were ex-addicts who knew exactly what I was going through & showed me the tools I could use to stay sober. 11+ months sober & I love my life! Not a day goes by that I don't think about my time there & how they helped me and so many others. I love EVERYTHING about my time there. In fact I recall a conversation with Nick asking if I could stay for another 30 days. Thank you Mirror Topeka for saving my life.

While I would truly love to focus on the strengths of the select few staff members here that carry themselves in a professional and ethical manner, it would be disingenuous to you, the prospective client, to leave out the unfortunate reality that it is overwhelmingly the clients that are left to run 80-90% of the responsibilities of operating their own treatment program here. A holistic, dynamic recovery from substance abuse demands the rigorous participation of the individual for whom the program is designed to help recover. Unfortunately at Mirror Shawnee, this concept appears to have been skewed in such a way where the individual client is now responsible for the nutritional, sanitary and other fundamental needs of their peers, while the majority of the program "leaders" visibly struggle to affect their influence in a meaningful way. The moment one enters the circus event that is Mirror Shawnee, as a client, a concerned family member, or as a new or long time staff member- there air is thick with confusion and distress and the mutual distrust and competition among all parties involved is palpable at every turn.
I'm leaving a 5 star review in the hope that they will this posted perhaps a little longer than if I gave an honest rating (1 star). Mirror deletes the tsunami of negative reviews that are posted on here. Just look at number of reviews (7) and then see that there is only one 5 star review that's actually visible. Prior to the most recent purge of these reviews, there was atleast ten 1 star reviews and they have swept them all under the rug.
If you have insurance and/or you're not court ordered into treatment, do yourself and your family a favor and go to Valley Hope or literally any other treatment facility. This place is the last stop on the treatment circuit before incarceration.
To the staff- I just ask that maybe, just maybe you read this, and all of the other reviews and try to look at these statements not as attacks on your character by some drug addled delinquents; but as opportunities for real growth that can be earned as a community, and eventually shared amongst the broader community that we all call home.
Until then, I'll keep checking back and keep leaving more encouraging reviews! I have so much more I could say and I know how fond you all are of thoughtfully receiving feedback and criticism and using it constructively!

My husband went through the independence center over 30 years ago. He did relapse after the first 3 months but he did not attend any aftercare or AA. Within a year he started going to AA and has been sober for almost 35 years. My son has also been through the independence center twice with varied success. He has had relapses but maintained sobriety for the majority of the time. He has used the tools he learned there to get sober again after relapsing without having to reenter treatment. This place helped me rebuild from the ground up. They brought back structure, gave me space to mentor younger folks, and let me move my body again. Depression hit hard, but they knew how to support that too. Not perfect, but it gave me my purpose back.

Finding a place that saw all of me meant everything. The staff respected my pronouns, and therapy felt safe and real. Art groups helped me speak without words. The food was just ok, but the care? Deeply human. I wish there were more gender-inclusive spaces like this. It wasn’t perfect but it was healing, and that’s what I needed. I walked out stronger, finally feeling seen.
