On April 4, 2025 I was checked into Wasatch Recovery Treatment Cent from San Francisco, CA. My best friend had drove from Utah to pick me up because I had back to back overdoses and was close to dying every single day from an extreme GHB, methamphetamine, alcohol, and cocaine addiction, as well as heavy Xanax, klonopin, oxy, and Adderall abuse. I was so bad that he and a small group of my closest friends had to pack my apartment for me before I left, because I was so disconnected from myself and reality.
For 20 years I have battled addiction off and on and was always missing the key to keep me in a place where I didn't WANT to do drugs anymore. When I got to Wasatch there was a culture shock and it was scary for me. Utah isn't as diverse as California (especially San Francisco) and there was a fear that I would be treated differently for being a gay man in a conservative state. This was not the case at Wasatch. I was greeted with love and kindness, acceptance and patience. I had a time I wanted to leave and they gave me the space to do so, alongside with the opportunity to questioning my own reasoning for it. This lead to a personal meeting with the owner of Wasatch, Mark that really showed me what This program was about. A type of love that I had never experienced from complete strangers that would soon blossom into a community of friends and family that have supported me throughout every step.
Today, I am over a year sober. I have a good job, an apartment, I'm on the softball league, and I have 2 dear friends who even helped me with a car so that I could get to work and rebuild my life. I have rekindled relationships and transformed my mind, body, and spirit. This program works if you are willing to work for it too.
They will show you so many variations of therapy that will explain how addiction works in the brain, a personalized therapist will challenge you to go deeper in yourself than you ever wanted, and the experiential therapy will reconnect you with life and nature. The food is great, the staff is loving and comes from the heart, and it is a safe place to grow bigger than you could ever imagine. That's why I love Wasatch and if you're reading this and need help, I hope you know that this is a special place that can help you too.

This is my second go round… been goin to for like 6 months maybe a lil longer.. this place is far from perfect.. but just like everywhere else ur experience is what u make of it! Sure its ghetto… n seems that everyone that goes or well 90% of the clients clearly still use… but if u pay to much attention to those details rather than the real reason ur goin there ( your self) then u have already lost the fight.. stop taking so much time worrying about everyone else and focus on u and why u r getting help! Recommend to anyone that isn’t worried about sitting back and judging everyone else and just worry about their own needs!

I found my wife dead overdosed In Her bedroom, was able to bring her back and brought her to this clinic. We had no insurance, no money, and no resources. The staff here actually paid out of their own pockets to get my wife her medication each day until her insurance came thru. A entire week stabilizing her dose and by that time she was no longer using. She was able to focus on living and be excited to wake up each day. It helped bring her back down to earth and gave her and me our hope and positive outlook on our lives. We're so grateful for this place and others like it. It may not be for everyone but It helped save our lives

My experience with the Odyssey House of Utah was life changing. I spent seven months at the Lighthouse on 745 E 300 S in Salt Lake City.
During my time there, I learned about how my childhood trauma had shaped my life and started me on the road to addictive behaviors.
I learned about my triggers and how to cope more effectively. My behavior changed and I have been sober for more than eight months. I'm now looking forward to a happy and healthy future.

this was my first time in recovery, and it was a great experience. i did the whole thing, starting in residential then moving on to outpatient and sober living. they put me on the path and gave me the tools to make things work. i was homeless and had given up on anything changing a long time ago. after completing the program, i am now employed, for 9 months and i love my job, after sober living i found a place that would rent to me. i did the work, odyssey showed me how, and made every step very doable. they helped me get all my legal problems taken care of and made it possible to get off the streets. after 14 years i had all but given up on anything changing. odyssey house got me motivated and gave me direction. i never thought i would be able to get to where i am now, working got my own place, more than anything im happy, and feel like i have options. im in control of my life. i highly recommend anyone thinking about recovery to go to odyssey, its not easy but they will get you thru it, and its 100% worth whatever it takes to regain a handle on your life.

I've been going here for about a month now. It's been years since I've gone to a clinic. In the past I haven't had the greatest experiences at clinics due to many factors. Like having too many patients and/or lack of empathy. Their intake processes were always so ridiculous. They would make u jump through 100 hoops just to start dosing. And sometimes if you didn't meet their unrealistic qualifications they would turn u away and tell u to come back another day. But Tranquility Place has put those places to shame! The intake process is easy and painless and goes by quick! They get u to dose right away. They have dr's there each morning to help get u to a comfortable dose. The staff there is beyond helpful, professional, very sweet and personable. Very passionate about what they do there and it shows. Ive never felt judged and I've been met with a lot of compassion. I check in with my counselor maybe once a week for no more than 10-20 min at a time. Groups are available but not mandatory! Each time I dose im in and out in the blink of an eye. There is never a wait time when I come in to dose. I'm finally stable and my quality of life is already improving. I was against going back on methadone for a long time. But if u are anything like me and have had long term issues with opiates and u are considering a clinic, Tranquility Place is the clinic to go to! Trust me!

Salt Lake City, UT | Members of the University of Utah staff and alumni have won numerous accolades, including the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, and Macarther fellowship, and the university’s affiliate hospitals rank among the nation’s top performers in multiple specialty areas. At the Huntsman Mental Health Institute at University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City, | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I recently participated in the Optimal Aging Program at HMHI after a very frightening hospital stay. I’d lost my memory due to a bout of delirium. My son was aware of the program and what it offered, which included group therapy, movement class, and participation in art, music, and writing classes. The program is run by an incredible group of dedicated professionals and dedicated volunteers whose efforts brought me back to life. They taught me new coping skills, including very helpful breathing techniques, grounding exercises, and meditation. I’ve been able to help my loved one use those same skills in difficult situations to find relief. Dr. Solomon, Amber, Bri, Ann, and Kelly helped me find resolution to some very deep seated issues and brought me back to a brighter, purposeful life. I can never thank them enough for the kind, compassionate, thoughtful, intelligent treatment they provided to me. And the volunteers were all amazing people who donated their time to a valuable community resource. I wish this program was available to everyone who has experienced a loss of self, whether through a medical or mental health crisis. I am forever indebted to this program, the people who staff it, and the incredible other participants I met. Everyone involved can do hard things. And we did and will continue to work towards healing and a healthy, purposeful future. Thank you all so very much.

Honestly, as someone who's been to 4 different mental health facilities in Utah, those who think this place is bad don't truly know what bad is. They separate patients based on acuity, ensuring that you are not around those who are a danger to others, so long as you aren't either. The food is incredible, and the psychiatrists meet with you frequently. They truly listen and ask questions to understand your mental state and condition, and is the only place where I've felt like they truly listen to you, and allow you to have input in your medication management. Only reason I put 4 stars is due to a single issue I had where the doctor did not believe that a certain medication was causing a specific side effect, though I do not blame him for being initially dismissive because the affliction is extremely uncommon and paradoxical based on the medications method of action. For all the people on here spamming one star reviews, I just want you to know they are experts and only want to help, and that the purpose of impatient treatment is not to cure you, it's simply to stabilize you by doing med management, making sure you're sleeping and eating with regularity, and to provide stable environment and routine. Think of it less as a fix to your problems, and more of a reset to get your day to day affairs stable which allows you to then do the deeper more lengthy treatment in an outpatient setting

Technically my outpatient psych forced me to go inpatient (and I was mad at her at the time), but given my experience at HMHI, I am so thankful I went. I was transferred here, specifically 4S, from the CCC and stayed for 10 days last month (March 2026). First of all, my psychologist was Ashley Dahl (PsyD) and she was definitely the highlight of my experience. She was very straightforward, told me what I needed to hear but in a way that made me feel comfortable around her. She helped me gain much greater insight into things I didn’t even realize had been affecting me mentally for a very long time. In fact, she is the reason why I had a change of heart towards therapy; I used to think therapy would be a waste of my time, but because of my experience with her, I decided that seeking outpatient therapy is worthwhile. Unfortunately she doesn’t do outpatient so I’ve needed to find someone else, but if she did, I 100% would’ve continued seeing her (so if she ever does…please lmk immediately). And the cherry on top was that she took the time to listen to me play the piano!! I had mentioned during one of our sessions that playing piano is one of my biggest passions. So the fact that she watched me play meant SO much to me. She also talked with me right before I left when I suddenly got super scared/overwhelmed about leaving. I really really REALLY wish I thanked her properly (and because I didn’t, I hope she at least sees this).
My dr. was Duy Pham (MD). He was very personable, and made it clear that he wanted to give me as much control over my treatment plan as possible (while ensuring I was safe and keeping my best interests at heart of course). He also made sure that I felt prepared/had a plan on how I’d move forward after being discharged so I wouldn’t feel lost post-hospitalization. My entire treatment team really listened to me; I could tell that they cared about my well-being. The nurse, Jake, was easy to talk to whenever there was something on my mind that I needed to process. And Spencer, the overnight nurse on Saturdays, made sure I had everything I needed to feel comfortable since I had trouble sleeping the first night I was there. Most of the techs were really nice as well.
I really appreciated the fact that we weren’t forced to go to groups, just encouraged. In fact, having that autonomy made me much more inclined to choose to attend; I went to almost all groups, and learned a lot from every single one. And I am extremely thankful that this place had a piano!! I headed straight to it upon my arrival. I’d forgotten how much I missed playing the piano, how I express myself through it, and how happy it makes me feel. I ended up playing piano for several hours a day during my free time, every single day. They had a ton of sheet music in a binder already, but as there were computers and a printer, I was able to print out whatever sheet music I wanted (and I did). Another staff member (not sure if he’s a tech or different position) Justin/aka Jay was so easy to talk to, and he made everyone smile & laugh during evening check-ins. And there was another staff member (tech I think?) unfortunately I forgot his name, but we had a nice conversation about space science/NASA etc.
The only real complaint I have about my stay is about Sarah, the overnight charge nurse. She worked a total of four nights over the course of my stay, and made me cry twice. I was/still am extremely confused about her, because she’d switch back and forth between being mean and nice. I really don’t understand how someone can work in mental health yet do stuff like that. A couple other patients told me that she made them feel uncomfortable as well, so I know it wasn’t just me.
However, because the rest of my experience was so positive, I can’t justify taking off a star solely because of one person (though it needs to be addressed). Overall, I’m extremely thankful for my stay here. I was treated like a person, like the staff actually cared. I wasn’t rushed to discharge before I felt ready. & now I know that hospitals aren’t scary!!

I'm about to graduate their IOP program on August 10th. I've struggled with addiction since I was 8 yrs old and this is the first time I have ever felt hope. I'm three months sober, and I cannot say enough positive things about Cold Creek. It's changed my life. They've help me arm myself with a relapse cycle, recovery contract, group therapy, individual therapy, and EMDR therapy that has helped me tremendously with my childhood trauma. Change your life, and attend Cold Creek!

You’ll meet with a therapist who will help address symptoms associated wit | Treatments Programs Payment Options | These guys are awesome, if your ready to get clean. If you want to keep getting high, go to the one that rhymes with fart. These guys know their stuff, understand addiction, and will work with you to get you sober. If you want a clinic that doesn't care and will let you do what you want, this isn't the place. I had an experience where they showed me this first hand. The level on one of my tests was out of whack, so they started doing my dose do make sure all was well. Once things were sstraightened or, the stabilized me for the first time ever. Now I'm good without dope. 5 years at fart and nothing, I come here and within a month, I'm stable. This is unlike any other clinic I've been to. No lines around the block, no staff talking down to you. Exactly what I needed.

EDIT: It's been almost a year since my last review & I wanted to update it again. I love this place and & the people. Unfortunately, Jerry, who was the owner, had to sell. I met the new owner & he seemed very nice but omg the new systems they're implementing are just so awful & annoying & frustrating. Before we would come in & Susan, the receptionist, who is so sweet, kind, smart, & efficient, would get us checked in & we could literally be in & out in like 3 minutes for real. Now they make u check in on a tablet & there's a TV where they put your # when you're allowed to go back & see Jeff, (the one who gives u your dose). I hate it for a couple reasons, #1- it slows things down A LOT!!! There is always a wait now & it is no longer in & out. #2- it makes u feel like your at the DMV! Waiting for your # to be called, you're not a person, you're a # & it feels so clinical & impersonal. Now one of the things I do like & really appreciate that they've done is if u miss your counseling apt they give u a week to do a group & if u do u don't have to pay a fine. Which I really appreciate. Last Monday the while morning was going awful & all these things came up & I totally spaced & felt so bad about missing my apt but am so grateful I am able to make it up! I'm also grateful Jerry is still there & I still have him as my counselor, he is a wonderful person who u can tell really cares about everyone & never judges. & I'm also so glad Susan is there & Jeff. Jeff is the nurse who gives u your dose, who is also one of my favorite people there. He is so kind, efficient & I love coming every day & getting to see Susan & Jeff cuz they're such wonderful people & I hope they never leave!!! Diane is another staff member who has been there for years & is such an amazing person. As a matter of fact, all the staff there is amazing & I'm grateful to have such wonderful people to be there & support me in my recovery journey. So even though I really don't like the new system (& talking to others, everyone else hates it too & were kind of hoping they'll do away with it after a while when they see how much it slows things down) I will still continue with, I guess it's called True North now because of the people there.

Amethyst Center for Healing, and Jana Fulmer changed my life. As a trans person recovering from trauma, this was a safe haven that is irreplaceable. I was given space and tools to start discovering more about myself and how to grow when in a place of pain.
I also really respect what they do— not only working with victims of violence but those who have hurt others. This reparative justice ethos is inspiring and part of a future that focuses on rehabilitation not punitive systems.
I’m so much happier with my life, and a lot of that has to do with the empowerment and trust I was given at Amethyst to start making decisions in my life that were more focused and less reactionary. Jana showed true care and empathy towards me, and helped me feel supported and valued. I can’t recommend enough!

Odyssey house has remained my source of hope and connection in the recovery community, and has always demonstrated long-suffering and forgiveness. My experience at Haven Inpatient Treatment truly changed my life. When I came in, I was at one of my lowest points. I felt lost, broken, and unsure if I could ever get my life back together. The staff here didn’t just treat my addiction ,they treated me like a person who mattered.
Because of Haven, I was able to rebuild myself from the inside out. They helped me realize that I am worth it. They gave me the tools, support, and accountability I needed to stay clean and make better choices. Today, my life looks completely different. I have my kids back in my life, I’ve reunited with my family, and I’m present in ways I never was before.
I can honestly say my life is so much better without drugs. Haven didn’t just help me get sober , they helped me find myself again. I’ll always be grateful for the role they played in saving my life and helping me become the father and man I’m meant to be.
Thank you to the haven 974 house for all they've done for me and all the other addicts that truly want change

These numbers also reflect the raw cost of drug rehab, before any insurance coverage. The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below. There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Salt Lake City.
