I love everything about Gateway HV! Gateway has been there for my brother (and therefore my family) for nearly 15 years. My brother has been helped with job coaching on the job, internships

Wanted to take a moment to dote on counselor Richelle Atkins. She has been instrumental in helping me change my life and work through my addiction. When you find someone like Richelle who is not just passionate about her job but truly cares for the people and community - that kind of dedication to the cause helps me to feel not so alone. Judgement has no place at Restorative and Richelle is a true reflection of that. I could tell her anything and she would only try and make it better for me or challenge me to think of how I can do better in the future. Even in the midst of her own personal struggles she shows up for her clients 100% each day. Thank you to Restorative Management and especially to Richelle for helping me get my life back - And the journey has just begun!

I was in hagamire. In 2009. Was a H.T.P. Cottage. For hard to place. Basically if you got in a fight or something like I did first 2 weeks of being there. that's where you were going. I wish they had plans for the kids that left there. And programs that would help keep them outta trouble when they get out. 2 of the kids from my house, Chris Jordan, from Long Island NY, and Shaka Jones, from Harlem, were both shot and killed. just a few years after finally coming home. SMH. And I spoke on the phone with Shaka just a month or 2 before he was murdered. He was asking about how it was up my way where I lived. Like he was thinking about moving up here. And continuing his music career. I told him GTFO of the city and come up here. But he unfortunately didn't. Wish he would of. Maybe things could of been different for both of us. He's dead, and I'm going to jail again for maybe the 12th or 13th time at 31 years old. Tomorrow.

In 2020, my child's mother was admitted to the facility with noticeable bruises all over her face and arms. She admitted during the intake that she'd been beaten repeatedly over the years by her husband. She'd also shared that her husband threatened to kill her in front of her children.
"Why are you doing that to Mommy?" the mother reported the child had said to her.
While the mother was in rehab, my child still had visitation with the stepfather. Unfortunately, neither I nor our child knew the extent of domestic violence, and had we, we never would have allowed the child to return for visits.
It wasn't until 2022 that the intake report was presented in court, but it was then denied by the mother, saying she didn't have a black eye or any bruises even though the Highwatch facility noted them in their report and asked her if she needed first aid.
By then, all the evidence had been removed and downplayed as merely "exaggeration."
By law, facilities that are aware of child abuse MUST report these incidents to the state. This never happened.
Imagine if they had protected the children as much as the patient, how much better off these children would be. It's okay, it's in the documentary.

Another counselor, I was explaining how I feel with the physical aspects of having anxiety and panic attacks. To me it is physical. So, when I mentioned all this to her,

Literally saved my life. I've had severe mental health issues my whole life and have been hospitalized, I've been to nearly a dozen therapists and psychiatrists, and I'm only 24 now. Months after I got out of the hospital several years ago and endless therapy sessions I really had given up. I had tried everything I could think of. I couldn't function. I did my best and it wasn't enough. Suicide seemed inevitable. My dear sweet mom was the one that googled up WCMHN and got me to do an intake. I didn't think anything different would happen, but quickly realized that I was being taken very seriously. The therapist I had been seeing told me I would never qualify to get into WCMHN because my condition wasn't "serious enough", but the person doing intake strongly disagreed. They set me up with an actual team of professionals: a therapist, a therapy group, a case manager, a psychiatrist, and a very kind nurse, all in the same place. They even gave me rides to appointments when I needed them. That was two years ago and I'm still a client here in recovery but the improvement I've experienced is nothing I ever thought that ME of all people could even hope for. They are all so kind and respectful and they understand that mental illness is as serious as any other illness. If you have lost all hope, give this a shot. I'm not saying it will be easy, but you will have a huge support team behind you and the resources you need to learn how to be happy and healthy. They deal with all types of serious chronic illnesses and addictions of all kinds. They can help you find housing and a job, and teach you to be independent. They even have free picnics, art classes, etc. for clients. Start with getting more information and see where it takes you. Really could not be more appreciative...I wish everyone knew about Western CT Mental Health.
