This is usually the time I would look for something to lift my mood. Depression gets the best of me and I spiral. I was able to really open up there. I was 17 when I went to hillcrest treatment facility and heavily addicted to substances. As soon as I stepped inside I was welcome in with open arms. We had fresh meals made daily, fitness, and as well as other activities to get my natural dopamine back up, I made lifelong friendships and lifelong heart touching memories. It was the best time of my life and I stayed sober ever since then and I am 20 now, I bought my own car and I will be moving out into my own apartment soon. The caregivers and therapists and everyone involved was amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I wasn’t able to keep in contact with them due to rules but I think about the caregivers, therapists and my experience that I had there every single day, it was so touching that every day I strive to do better because I think about all the people that helped me at hillcrest, eventually if possible I would even like to get a job there to help kids like I was helped. It was the most amazing heart warming experience I’ve had in my entire life and I would recommend this place a million times to anyone. My addiction had taken over my entire life and I had absolutely zero hope for my future. The second I stepped off of the plane I was met with a smiling face from the kindest person I had met in a long time. I was instantly taken care of and felt safe. When I arrived at the house I was overwhelmed with how comfortable it felt. I was very well cared for through detoxing; consistently checked on and heard when I had any issues or problems through it. John, the chef, actually came to me everyday and asked what I was able to stomach while going through my withdrawal, he would bring me whatever asked for to help get me through it and get back in my body as soon as possible. Jake and Andrew made me feel comfortable coming to them with any issues or questions and took care of EVERYTHING for me. My only priority thanks to them was to GET BETTER. Once I was able to attend groups I was even more comfortable. EVERY counselor/facilitator was great! Every staff member has the ability to meet you where you are in your recovery. The majority have been in each phase or spot themselves so it’s a genuine feeling of empathy and understanding that they offer. There is also a network of support that grows between the clients and it makes sharing and listening so easy. The entire program is ran in a way that makes recovery there feel less institutionalized and more like just simply self growth and realization. It’s a perfect mix of quiet, slow down personal time and active time. The outings made me realize that there is fun and happiness in sobriety. Maple Moon was my home, when I needed it most.This place changed my life, in all seriousness and honesty they truly did. Starting from the admissions process until my final day, the Elevation staff went above and beyond. Stephanie, was in charge of my admissions, which she made seamless. Stephanie responded to all my emails and phone calls in a timely fashion and with great care. At the Calabasas house, I had the privilege to have Michele as my therapist. I owe her my life with how attentive and caring she was for me. Michele was compassionate, funny, and direct - something I needed. I could go on and on about how great of a therapist she was for me, but I do not know if there would be enough characters for me to write a review. Thank you Michele. The coaches and chefs, all of whom were therapists within their own right, were fantastic. In a place where you already feeling vulnerable they made it feel like home. Friendly, compassionate, and wonderful human beings overall is not enough to say about them. (Again, worried about the character limit here.) There were pros and cons for sure, these were: Pros: Really good food Outings were fun If you were level 3 and above, you could go on off site visitations with your family Cons: Leveled me down on my last week while I had been withdrawing from two meds (Abilify and Zoloft) Made me sit through an intense PTSD flashback and didn’t let me do anything to distract myself (it was to practice a skill, but i really needed help and i felt very distressed) Tried to punish me and make me stay an extra week for feeling suicidal after leveling me down Didn’t really do much when another kid was making me feel uncomfortable by making me feel overstimulated But it was not a very bad experience. It seems like everyone there does really care about the patients and wants to help. I loved the approach they had with cbt and dbt. Very helpful to me. (i still utilize them almost daily!)The one thing that I did have issues with were the other kids. There was quite some violence coming from the kids that were there at the same time as me. It's not on the staff at all though. They did the best they could in very harsh situations and still kept all of us safe. I do recommend this place if your kid deals with depression/anxiety but would not recommend if they have violent tendencies. I just dont think mixing those two types of kids works out well. RTC is not the best option for SUDs but it can act as a detox center. Without Maya, I may have fallen behind on my academic ventures and not have gotten much out of this RTC. The staff went above and beyond throughout his care. My son’s therapist, Leah, was the most integral part of his treatment. She was able to see what previous therapists have missed. The facility itself is beautiful and offers great therapies. I highly recommend this location if you are on the fence about trusting a facility with your child. Jessica De La Garza 1 year ago My child ended up getting involuntarily discharged and I'm still giving Evolve a 5 star rating because they were fantastic throughout the 30 day stay. Admissions helped us through the entire process over a weekend when my child was kicked out elsewhere. Facility was great. Staff from Management to therapists were all kind and very caring. Where Paradigm (Malibu) felt much more corporate, Evolve treated my daughter with so much compassioin, even through the discharge process. The therapist were even crying at discharge, and more telling, my child really wanted to go back after the episode passed. Medical staff tried much harder than elsewhere to find the secret sauce to help my kiddo. Good news, we did eventually find a med (at home) that helped a TON and we're mostly under control now. I'm sure Evolve made a big difference in this process. If you are a parent with a troubled teen, hang in there! Feels impossible some days, but I highly recommend the Evolve team. Brian, Jude, Ginger, and Chris were instrumental in helping me gather the tools I needed to maintain my sobriety and believe in myself. The therapists are not equipped to handle more complex patients with extensive trauma so I suggest getting an outside therapist. They told me they couldn't help me in my therapy sessions but the groups about the big book and living that way of life are what really helped me understand myself and my disease. Brian’s lessons and wisdom helped so much, the clinicians believed I was faking my happiness and peace but it was inside those walls, I found my higher power and purpose. Oak forest is a stepping stone that teaches you how to help yourself stay sober. There was so much doubt from the other staff I met there, that I was so determined to succeed. There was one young female counselor and one older female in admin that gave me a lot of trouble and only favored the boys so be prepared to find your voice and never be afraid to use it.
