From the moment I entered in the emergency department, the only thing I experienced was absolute professionalism, kindness, and even some well needed humor! It then transferred to floor four when I was admitted. This hospital has put every other one I’ve been in in the Charleston, SC area to shame! From the doctors to the nurses to the techs and everyone else that makes that place run, hats off to you all. If I see you around town I will buy you a beer! I’d give them 10 stars if I could.

I recently celebrated one year of sobriety, and I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the Charleston Recovery Center and the incredible staff who helped guide me through the 12 Steps of AA. From the moment I arrived, I felt supported, understood, and challenged to grow.
Special thanks to Jett, Thomas, and Gene—your dedication, compassion, and personal insight into recovery made all the difference. Each of you brought something unique to the table: Jett’s direct approach and honesty, Thomas’s calm and steady encouragement, and Gene’s wisdom and lived experience. Together, you helped me confront the root causes of my addiction and taught me how to live with integrity and purpose.
The 12-Step program here is not just a guideline—it’s a way of life. At Charleston Recovery Center, they don’t just tell you what recovery looks like; they show you, day by day, through their actions and the community they've built. It’s a tough program at times, but if you’re serious about recovery, this place will change your life.
A year ago, I couldn't imagine making it this far. Today, I wake up sober, grateful, and hopeful. Thank you for giving me the tools and support I needed to reclaim my life.

In 2016, I walked into The Hope completely hopeless. I didn’t believe that any program — let alone this one — could actually help me. I was lost, exhausted, and convinced I was beyond saving.
But here’s the truth: if you’re tired of being tired, and you’re willing to follow some simple directions — even just a little bit — what they teach you here works. It works when you do it every day. It works when you pass it on to others. That’s the key.
Today, I have eight years of sobriety. My kids are in my life. Their mother and I have a strong relationship. I’ve rebuilt trust with my family and friends. I’ve got a life I’m proud of. I’m a 100% satisfied customer.
So stop listening to your own thinking. Let someone else guide you — just for a while. You’ll be amazed where it can take you.

Charleston is the 8th most expensive city nationwide for addiction treatment affordability, with an average cost of addiction treatment of $64864. This is higher than the average cost of $57774 for addiction treatment in South Carolina and higher than the national average cost for drug rehab of $57,193.
The costs of drug and alcohol rehab in Charleston vary widely and depend on several factors, including:
The costs of addiction treatment listed for cities and states are averages based on the cost of medical detox, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and medication assisted treatment. These averages are high due to the cost of medical detoxification and residential inpatient rehab programs.
These numbers also reflect the raw cost of drug rehab, before any insurance coverage. The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below. There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Charleston. Most rehab treatment centers accept cash or self-payment, as well as private health insurance. However, there are many treatment centers in Charleston that accept Medicaid and Medicare, or offer sliding scale payments or other low-cost payment options. Here's the complete breakdown of how to pay for addiction treatment near Charleston.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is the most widely-accepted insurance for drug rehabs in Charleston, with 10 treatment centers in the city accepting their insurance. UnitedHealth Group is the 2nd most popular with 10 treatment centers accepting it followed by Aetna in 3rd accepted by 9 drug rehabs.
Charleston has the 290th highest rate of drug use nationwide among nearly 400 cities surveyed. This number reflects the combined use of cocaine, heroin, meth, and marijuana, displayed individually below. The percent shown for each drug represents the number of residents in Charleston county that have reported ever using the following drugs, so these numbers should not be interpreted as direct evidence of current drug use in Charleston or Charleston county as a whole.
In 2023, Charleston had the 38th highest number narcotics violations out of 330 cities nationwide, with a total of 1549 reported drug-related incidents that year. This includes cases of public intoxication, drug arrests, narcotics found during house calls and traffic stops, and any other drug-related crime.
Keep in mind these numbers are dependent on accurate record keeping and reporting laws by local police and sheriffs, and may not fully reflect all drug related crime in Charleston. All values are per 100,000 population.
