Every experience I’ve had there has been exceptional. From the moment you walk through the doors, the staff, UPMC Police, nurses, and physicians treat people with dignity, respect, and compassion. More importantly, they actually listen. That alone sets them apart from many healthcare experiences. What impresses me most is the physicians’ ability to quickly assess complex situations and determine what’s actually going on with their patients. Their clinical judgment is remarkable, and in my opinion, some of the brightest doctors in the entire UPMC system work within those walls. On more than one occasion, I have witnessed them stabilize a patient in a matter of minutes after other facilities struggled for days. That level of expertise isn’t luck it’s the result of highly skilled professionals who know what they’re doing. Western Psychiatric has been the saving grace of UPMC for me. If it weren’t for the incredible physicians and staff there, I would have moved my healthcare to another network, such as Johns Hopkins or the Cleveland Clinic, a long time ago.
