These people can only hope no one is in desperate need of help right now. They would be till next week to get one of them to answer the phone. I followed my Dr. back there instead of Bar Harbor because Ellsworth was closer, but trying to get in touch with your Dr. through Downeast Treatment Center is nearly impossible because trained staff can't answer the phone. This is supposed to be a Treatment recovery center, God forbid if it were an emergency..

After an isolated Middle East duty tour with the US Navy, I developed PTSD. Over the years this developed into depression, anxiety and insomnia. The VA has been a big help in treating these conditions, but I felt I needed a second opinion in regard to medications that may help me. I referred myself into the community to see if AMHC could help. There I met Jennifer and Jessica and was enrolled in an CCBHC (Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic) grant program, which designates certain clinics and provides a comprehensive range of substance abuse and mental health services. After registration I was assigned to Doctor Deerfield, a psychiatrist and medication specialist. A few days later I notified my VA mental health nurse and expressed that I would like to stay with Doctor Deerfield exclusively, and that was noted and respected by the VA. After the first visit with Doctor Deerfield, I realized she had wonderful energy. Her calm presence and knowledge made it easy to speak with her. Doctor Deerfield offered an abundance of verbal support and information regarding medications and offered a new medication. I feel I am making progress towards feeling better and healthier. I am keeping a log of how the medication is working each night so I can review it with the doctor on my follow-up visit. I feel confident with the knowledge and experience Dr. Deerfield has to offer. I made a good decision following up with Aroostook Mental Health and Counseling. I would like to send a special thank you to Sharon Carroll for the excellent and productive meeting today (11/3/22) regarding the situations that I am experiencing. The counselors and clinicians at AMHC are compassionate. personable, knowledgeable and professional. Our conversation was relevant and encouraging. Sharon asked powerful and constructive questions that helped bring clarity to my situation, as she shared her wisdom and insight. Sharon, as well as Doctor Deerfield displayed a calm presence, diverse knowledge and a heart-centered awareness towards my diagnosis. I felt connected and supported through our first video conference and look forward to eventually meeting Sharon in person at some point in the near future. Thanks again AMHC and Sharon for your care and concern.

I had the absolute privilege of spending time at Borden Cottage this June, and I am simply amazed. I’ve never encountered a treatment program that compares to the beauty and serenity of this property—it’s truly breathtaking. From the moment you drive in, you can feel that you’ve arrived somewhere special. The pristine grounds, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, and the scent of fresh flowers make every step feel healing and restorative. What stood out even more was the staff: kind, compassionate, professional, and deeply qualified. Their attention to detail is unmatched, and every aspect of the program is thoughtfully designed with the individual in mind. Borden Cottage offers the highest level of care with true grace and integrity. If you or a loved one are in need of help, I wholeheartedly encourage you to reach out to them. You will be met with dignity, respect, and the kind of care that can change lives.

They were awesome, worked hard to get me settled in and were super easy to work with. Also because I have take homes within my own home clinic my counselor was able to get me take homes there to make my trip that much easier. I am back attending the opiate addiction program at Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center...got hooked again because of a herniated disc injury in my back, that was super-painful. Anyway, I think that the program is better now than it was when I attended a few years ago. My counselor back then was a really good guy and my current counselor now is even better. Absolutely love going there and love all the people that work there from the director down to the janitor...they are all great people that have a great program that I credit with saving my life. If you need help quitting opiates and want a medically assisted program, Bangor CTC is MOST DEFINITELY right up your alley!!

Best mental hospital in Maine. They act like this is the most severe place you can end up but I found the treatment here to be the best even if the stay was about 50% longer than when I went to other hospitals I deserved it because I was really unwell when I started. I was difficult to work with and paranoid about trying their medication but they worked with me. The best part is they never forced me to take anything except one time when I dissolved a pill in my mouth instead of swallowing it whole. So they made me take it again. Then they said they were going to force me to take haldol once with a shot but I said " time out, I'll take it orally" so they cancelled the shot and I took the pill. That actually really made me angry but they let me go outside right after. They gave me ice cream for good behavior almost every day. You can call the kitchen and order custom food if they have the ingredients. The coffee is almost unlimited (decaf). You can almost always get a snack if you want one. They gave me headphones and this part was really awesome, they let me use a computer to put music i purchased on Amazon on a memory card for headphones they let me use. So I could listen to the radio or my own music whenever the battery was charged. They allowed books. And I got to go outside multiple times a day. (There is even a tree in the courtyard you can touch.) A tree doesn't seem important but if feels like a big deal if you're locked up. As far as the treatment team goes I've never worked with a team that was so nice. Doctor Reeves was the smartest most flexible doctor I've ever worked with. I wasn't easy to work with but Reeves did a great job and eventually earned my trust. I should of listened to him more. I'm so used to doctors disrespecting me and forcing me to take meds I don't want to take, it was really refreshing to have a doctor that wanted me on a med I was willing to keep taking long term. I was used to psychiatrists getting my meds wrong so I underestimated Reeves. I should of took his recommendations more often, can't say that for other psychiatrists I've had. Overall I felt a high level of respect and professionalism from the treatment team. What was the biggest downside? Ice cold showers during the middle of winter. The showers were ice cold. I'm surprised a pipe didn't burst. They said the water would warm up if I left it running but it never did warm up.

I've been here multiple times since I was young and while I was young it was horrible but once they built the new building they made it an extremely comfortable and accepting place and the staff were amazing I have a few that I still miss and it's been a few months since I was there. The treatment was extremely helpful. The only complaint I have is the kitchen the food is barely ever fully cooked and they get the patients orders wrong majority of the time but the staff always go down and make them fix your order for you.

What!…..I can only give 5 stars! 🤔 I would give 10 stars if it was an option. I have been talking to my social worker on the phone for approximately two years now. I get a full 60 minute visit with her and it helps greatly. Early on I believe it was only a matter of a few days before they sent me up for my first appointment. Chelsea listens to me rambling on and on… And when I finally let her speak (LOL) she will come up with some good suggestions in order to help me, help myself. Therapy for me is a very slow process. Let’s face it I’ve had problems for decades… Do I really think they were all going to be solved overnight, NO! That one hour a week helps so much… And every once in a great while I need to rely on the crisis line… That’s what they are there for. I have called Higher Ground maybe three times and asked to have Chelsea return my call, and within one or two hours she gets back to me. I have zero complaints, and only great praise to give all those working at Higher Ground. ☺️👍🤟🤘✌️ 🤜💖🤛

An amazing place to find the best therapists and counselors in the Bangor/Brewer area (and probably all of Northern Maine). The staff are caring and professional. They are willing to listen to each client's individual needs and form a treatment plan that puts the client (not just their symptoms) at the center of it. If you are in a financially difficult position, do not hesitate to talk with the front desk about how they can help you get treatment without over extending your means. The amount of healing I have experienced at Higher Ground is staggering. I feel anyone who is struggling owes it to themself to schedule a consultation. Thank you Higher Ground!

After countless hours working with different therapists, psychologists, and various specialists, I finally was given a chance to move forward from a road block diagnosis given to me after 30 minutes with a doctor in Acadia as a teenager. I literally cried at my initial assessment when Chris was willing to try a new route and actually hear my story. They blood test you, which can be a glaringly obvious source of internal dysfunction. They refer you for testing and therapy. This is the one place I have not felt bullied into taking one type of medication that has no positive aspects for me. If MBH wasn't it for you, keep looking. Experiences here are a mixed bag, but I stuck it through and have no complaints about my therapists -- they're fantastic. I will deduct one star for a passive-aggressive child therapist whose gender-biased opinions (which could be seen as an attempt to drive a wedge in a family) are better off left unsaid in front of their patients. No tact or professionalism.
