There is so much space to move around so other guests generally keep to themselves and there is little drama. My only complaint is that some of the lower-level staff (namely Beth, Nathan, Michael) are rude and think they have power over the guests. But the more important staff members (intake, doctors, directors) are extremely kind and professional. You will not find this same level of care from the upper-staff at Spring Lake Ranch.

As a child of parents who worked at Gould Farm in the 1970s-1980s, I can attest to its trusting, fun, and purposeful community setting. I never distinguished between staff and guests because we were all just neighbors, friends, community members. The more I experience the world, the more I appreciate my childhood at Gould Farm!

Mario is my brother’s recovery coach. I don’t have the words to say how incredible Mario is. The support he is providing and has provided over the past month has been beyond what we could’ve ever asked for. Our family will forever be grateful 🙏

I am a current client at mountainside in the sober living house and I am so grateful for every second I have spent here. I have been here for almost 4 months and have been through all programs by this point. When I got here I was met by friendly faces when being brought into detox. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any moment and thanks to the amazing detox staff I had a very zero stress and cozy stay. To the residential staff, you all are absolutely AMAZING! I cannot thank everyone enough for making the 47 days with you guys made me feel heard and loved. To Ally, thank you for letting me share my experience with you and being a friend to me and helping me through some hard times. I will forever be grateful for you. PHP was a nice step down from all the restrictions. Being able to spend some outside time at meetings or going out for some good food was very helpful to showing that I really can have fun sober. Sober living so far through mountainside has been a life changing experience. I definitely lucked out with having some of the best roommates ever! Mario was amazing during my first month in the house. As a recovery coach he helped me get on track with my recovery and think of goals that I would like to accomplish in my sobriety. I was lucky enough to know him from the beginning and I am very happy that I was able to work with him later in my stay. Having someone that I can always rely on when I am having a rough time that was only one call away was very relieving for me. I will stop talking now as I could go on forever saying amazing things about this place. Thank you Mountainside ❤️

Mario has been an absolute gift to our family. My husband has been doing sober coaching with Mario since he completed rehab at Mountainside. Mario keeps him accountable while fostering a strong relationship built on a foundation of trust. Mario keeps it real with both my husband and me with his humor and humility. He checks in with me weekly and reminds me his phone is always on for me. He approaches the difficult road of recovery with dignity for the client, compassion for the family, and respect for the process. He shares his own personal stories and experiences. Mario is deeply invested and loves what he does. I could not have gotten through these last few months without him, and my husband continues to make growth in this partnership. When my husband was having a hard time Mario drove across the state to meet with him in person. He is the definition of above and beyond with his dedication and kindness. I am so thankful for Mario and the impact he has had on my husband’s recovery as well as on me. While we are grateful for so many of the kind and dedicated people at Mountainside, Mario’s coaching has been the most impactful part of the journey.

I've posted a few comments what's important is that the program works they now let u smoke bud also something alot of us worried about for take-homes but things WILL NOT always go your way I guess my advice to myself and others is simply keep going even if it gets rough and feels hard keep going even if you know your clean and a test says otherwise false positives or whatever they might be, just know that in the long run it is saving your life!!

Eden Hill Recovery Retreat is nestled in a restored farmhouse on 18 beautiful acres in Canaan, Connecticut. The facility offers a CARF-accredited transitional living program exclusively for women over 18 in early recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders. Their serene and home-like environment accommodates up to 12 residents at a time.
This was one of my lifetime BEST decisions I've made. When I stepped in the front door I felt a spirit that welcomed me home. Eden Hill always felt like my home and it still does. I cannot give enough praise to the women who run Eden Hill. Such a beautiful, compassionate, wise, selfless group who were always reliable. HighWatch Recovery and Eden Hill should be very proud. Thank you for such a wonderful recovery experience. I've learned so many coping skills and truths about the disease of addiction. I'm not ashamed anymore.

Phenomenal. Professional, personal, tailor-made individualistic programming. Very much a family atmosphere. Once you settle in, you will never want to leave. If I could live at Eden Hill, I would do it in a heartbeat. The term “staff” doesn’t adequately do justice to the Team of people who run and work at , Eden Hill in all capacities. They are personable, accommodating in anyway possible and loving. It is not possible to leave Eden Hill without feeling like your family has gained a few unofficial members. The accommodations are fabulous and newly renovated. Therapeutic communal living helped me to increase individual personal responsibility while at the same time learning to live with and compromise (perhaps for the first time) With my housemates. The clients form a bond that is therapeutic and supportive. We learn to hold each other accountable for their actions in recovery and other communal living issues in a kind and, if necessary, mediated way. Some of the tools I left with we’re effective communication, the development and use of boundaries, healthy confrontation (or “care-frontation”) and how to be a part of the solution instead of the problem. Most importantly I learned humility. I learned the world does not revolve around me and that to be successful in recovery and life, I need a support network which required working on my relationship skills. My circumstances did not allow me to participate in the family recovery events; however, I witnessed my peers and their families participate with what appeared to be excellent results. The Town-of Canaan is small, safe, charming, and has a large recovery network suitable for all ages. I have known many people that have gone through Mountainside treatment center in Canaan and then followed treatment at the extended care facility of Eden Hill Recovery Retreat in Canaan that have decided to remain in the area due to the Active and varied recovery community. Additionally, many of these individuals are still clean and sober and moving on with their lives. I myself am considering relocating to the Canaan area at some point in the near future for the above stated reasons. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Eden Hill is like a second home to me which I will forever remember as a very necessary, nurturing, and healing time. I have met some of the most wonderful, loving women in situations much the same as my own that I will forever treasure as sisters and friends On a journey you couldn’t possibly understand unless you’ve been on it too.

I was a resident of Berkshire Farms from August 25th 1995 to August 25th of 1996. I was in Paul Hahn cottage. I remember Mr Daniels, Mr Pinkston, Shook, Matt, and The overnight guy Dell. We loved Dell because he used to smoke cigarettes and could never smell if we were smoking because he was so old and always fell asleep in the chair at night. Mr Burke. I remember Lonis he was in a strong man competition or tough man fighting competition or something like that. Remember black guy Mr Evans he was a good friend of Mike Tyson. I remember Vinny from naughty by nature serving us food one day in the chow hall. Lot of memories from that place From there I was shipped to the Schrader house group home in Yaphank on Long Island. Besides having a wonderful family, friends and a few staff at Soldier On to help (really above and beyond) me in my recovery (still have a little more to do) The staff at Hillcrest Commons are just the most caring group of people. I wish I could put their names down individually but I can't thank you all enough. From the RNs, LPNs, Aids, PT/OT, Kitchen crew, Cleaners, Social Workers, Maintenance, Laundry and I'm sure I'm missing some others but what a good team. All shifts work pretty darn well together. I like that they hear your concerns and if they don't have the answer, they will try and find it. I was admitted in May of 2024, convinced I had nothing to live for and nobody who cared about me. I was suggested Riggs after being turned down from numerous hospitals and programs for having “too complex of a case.” Over the course of 8 months, I learned about myself and my impact on others in ways I had never before. My cohort of people who were admitted around the same time was very supportive, and we still keep in touch today, but I can definitely see how if the community isn’t a fit then Riggs won’t be a fit. Sure there was drama (some more serious than others), but you have to remember that you’re living in a large community of people with trauma and complicated mental health struggles. The only major downside is how expensive it is. I was extremely lucky that my insurance covered about 60% of my treatment, but I felt guilty the entire time I was there about how much my family was investing into me financially. The cost is widely talked about in group sessions and is commonly a major stressor for people, distracting from what brought them in in the first place. It’s now been almost a year since I left and my life is on a trajectory I never thought was possible. I am clean and sober, haven’t had a mental health crisis since leaving, and no longer fit a significant amount of diagnostic criteria for what I was diagnosed with. Making the commitment to treatment saved my life❤️

Places of this kind are not easily quantifiable in 5 star ratings. But if I had to gove it a rating as simple as this, I give it 5. I was there for a year, and did out-patient for a couole of years after that. This place was a hard place to be because it was where Ibhad to confront myself -- but the tools they imparted to me and the care I received helped me save my life. I am indebted to them and believe im the work they do. Very much so. There are few open-setting hospitals around, and among mental hospitals Riggs is truly unique. It may not be for everyone, but I recommend it very very highly. I feel lucky to have been there. And I am certain that I would not be living a full, productive life now had it not been for them.

I left riggs a year ago, I never planned to leave a review but after seeing all the recently negative reviews I feel like I need to. Riggs helped me a tremendous amount! I went for 7 months and the work I did there has carried over ten fold. To anyone who is struggling with a 1. Personality disorder 2. has the means to stay at least 3-6 months 3. Is committed to getting better on a deep level There is no better place. Straight up. Please don’t be discouraged by the recent negative reviews and of course do your research.
