I have ADHD, and there’s currently a stimulant shortage for what I normally take. I called multiple pharmacies in the area and they didn’t have any of the doses I’d normally take in stock. My coworker mentioned this place to me, so I got a lower dosage of my prescription sent to them. I called the pharmacy to let them know, and the man that answered was very polite and knowledgeable about the stimulant shortage, and even gave me information on my drug’s expiring patent that I didn’t know about. He was able to get it filled that same day, however I had issues with my prescription insurance wanting to do a preauthorization for a lower dose. This same pharmacist that helped me on the phone was very empathetic and talked me through all of the necessary steps of insurance pre authorization. He contacted my prescription insurance for me and even advocated for me on the phone with them, attempting by to bypass the unnecessary preauthorization (it was the same drug I’ve been on for over 12 years, just a slightly lower dosage, so the preauthorization for it during this stimulant shortage was very arbitrary and unnecessary.) He was very polite to me on the phone, in person, and on the phone with my insurance. This facility’s pharmacy is the only pharmacy in my area that still has the dosages of the drug that I can take. There is never a line in the pharmacy, the communication with their patients and each other is remarkable. Normally I go to CVS for my psychiatric medications, but I think I’ll just go here from now on. They are very quick to answer the phone and get prescriptions filled, and they clearly do their absolute best to advocate for their patients. Thank you Compass Health pharmacy, you saved me in the middle of this stimulant shortage, and you made the whole frustrating process of insurance preauthorization much easier for a patient like me with ADHD that gets easily overwhelmed and impatient with setbacks. You guys are awesome 💜

I used to go here when i was 13/14... and for everyone who has had a bad experience placeing there child here just know as for every place it has its good and bad times. I was forchinat enough to be placed here when it had a good staff systume shout out to ,Michaelis, Doug dear, Melissa, mr Tiny, mark and meany more. I also made a tone of friends who i still keep up with to this day aswell. I had the chance learn alot about myself and my problems and left a better kid who was confident and well more behaved and I still use what I learned there to this day and I'm 30. I'm unsure how the place is doing almost 20 years later or who is working there but this place randomly popped up in my my head and i just felt the need to look it up and leave a review. Kansas City VA Medical Center is a public hospital located in Kansas City, MO. Kansas City VA Medical Center specializes in the treatment of Primary Care and Mental Health Care. Kansas City VA Medical Center exists to make a positive difference in the lives of the Veterans they serve by providing compassionate, comprehensive, and quality healthcare
Very good care at the VA hospital and I've noticed that those who complain are those who normally don't follow through with their appointments. Everybody at the Kansas City VA is very professional and they take good care of their Veterans!

I am a Marine Corps veteran and have had a wife gamut of health care treatment on the civilian side since leaving active duty in 1993. I took my healthcare treatment to the Kansas City VA Medical Center in 2023 because the exposure to particulates in Saudia Arabia, no thanks to Saddam, was taking a firm hold on my body. The care that I have received at the KCVA is remarkable. I've been treated as an income in other places. Here, I am one who needs care as a whole person. And that is what I have experienced. I have also met other brothers and sisters from other uniformed services and, together, we share stories of our time in service and experiences at that facility. The personnel care for the veterans they serve. I have spoken to many patients who are more than a little concerned about how things are going with the current climate in the nation. They don't want to lose this facility nor the people who make it work very well. I agree with them and have called my senators and congresswoman. Please help us keep this veterans medical center open and functional.

The VA is truly a special place. Endless money will continue be poured into DOD, but at the end of your tour, when you are discharged back into the civilian world, the VA is a place where true camaraderie and fellowship lives. I've witnessed elderly Veterans pushing other Veterans into the hospital by wheelchair. I've witnessed friendships bloom and war stories exchanged in the waiting rooms. More than likely, privatized civilian hospital staff wouldn't truly understand a patient who has struggled with severe PTSD from combat, or a veteran who has Parkinson's or severe neuropathy due to toxic exposures. Did you know, military Veterans are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS than non military? More than likely, in a privatized civilian hospital your just another body in the door. They don't understand the plight of the military Veteran. The VA is different. A good amount of VA staff are Veterans and they choose to work for the VA to continue the mission. To serve those who have served. If our Nation's leaders will step up and fund the VA to care for those who signed a blank check (the same way they fund DOD), the VA could easily be the top in the nation. Sure, there are bad apples here and there, but the majority of VA staff feel strongly and passionately about it's patient population. I've been receiving care at the VA for nearly a decade. As a female Veteran, the VA has come a long way for women's care and if they don't have the provider to accommodate your medical need, the VA will send you out to get the care you need. I've seen many specialists at the KCVA and have overall received EXCELLENT care. This will be a challenge if the VA doesn't hire more healthcare workers who are essential to be operational. Please continue to support the VA and it's mission. Veterans need and deserve this network!

I can’t say enough about the outstanding service and support I received from Midwest Recovery while finding placement for my son, who was transferring from treatment out of state. Sidney and Sean were both incredibly patient, compassionate, and understanding through every step of the process. They took the time to answer all of my questions—no matter how many times I called—and always checked in regularly while we waited for my son to agree to the program. What truly stood out was their willingness to share their own personal journeys with Midwest Recovery. Hearing their stories not only provided hope but also reassured me that this was the right place for my son. Their authenticity and dedication made a difficult time a little easier, and I’m deeply grateful for the care and connection they provided. Thank you, Sidney and Sean, and the entire Midwest Recovery team, for making a difference when it mattered most.

This is an Amazing place, with a heart for saving our loved ones from the addiction that is destroying not just them but their families as well. Whether it's intake, detox, counseling, and preparation with life skills and tools that will empower them to walk back into society and be humble but work hard for their sobriety, knowing that God is in control and that they can be successful in their recovery. I highly recommend. God sent them to me to save my son when he was ready to get clean but didn't know how...they were there...

It works. Finally getting around to sharing but I'm extremely grateful for this place. I'm coming up on 2 years clean from opiates. It was my first ever time in treatment and it stuck. Very well. They set you up to be successful afterwards with doctors appointments and IOP so even though I haven't had much contact with GB themselves since, I've still was able to maintain treatment. Food was AMAZING. I had my own 1-bdr apartment with a kitchenette. The therapy was constant so it kept you busy. All the people were nice and they really seemed to care about what they were doing and being there. The pool table and cereal bar were great amenities too. My only complaint is that I left with a vitamin D deficiency, but it was wintertime in KS so we just couldn't do many outings.

Mirror Inc. (Shawnee) has truly been a life-changing experience for me. This organization helped me achieve sobriety, regain control of my life, and learn essential skills that I had missed along the way. From the moment I walked in, I felt supported and understood. The staff here are nothing short of incredible. Their dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts to help individuals like me rebuild our lives are beyond words. They go above and beyond every single day, and their genuine care for each person is evident in everything they do. The programs they offer are not just about staying sober—they're about thriving. I learned valuable life skills, gained confidence, and discovered a sense of purpose I hadn't felt in years. The guidance and encouragement I received were instrumental in my journey, and I can honestly say I wouldn't be where I am today without their help. If anyone deserves recognition and a raise, it’s the staff at Mirror Inc. (Shawnee) They work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to ensure every individual has the tools and support needed to succeed. Their hard work does not go unnoticed, and I am so grateful for everything they’ve done for me. If you or someone you know is looking for help to turn their life around, I cannot recommend Mirror Inc. (Shawnee) enough. This place truly changes lives, and I will forever be thankful for their role in my journey to a better life.

While I would truly love to focus on the strengths of the select few staff members here that carry themselves in a professional and ethical manner, it would be disingenuous to you, the prospective client, to leave out the unfortunate reality that it is overwhelmingly the clients that are left to run 80-90% of the responsibilities of operating their own treatment program here. A holistic, dynamic recovery from substance abuse demands the rigorous participation of the individual for whom the program is designed to help recover. Unfortunately at Mirror Shawnee, this concept appears to have been skewed in such a way where the individual client is now responsible for the nutritional, sanitary and other fundamental needs of their peers, while the majority of the program "leaders" visibly struggle to affect their influence in a meaningful way. The moment one enters the circus event that is Mirror Shawnee, as a client, a concerned family member, or as a new or long time staff member- there air is thick with confusion and distress and the mutual distrust and competition among all parties involved is palpable at every turn. I'm leaving a 5 star review in the hope that they will this posted perhaps a little longer than if I gave an honest rating (1 star). Mirror deletes the tsunami of negative reviews that are posted on here. Just look at number of reviews (7) and then see that there is only one 5 star review that's actually visible. Prior to the most recent purge of these reviews, there was atleast ten 1 star reviews and they have swept them all under the rug. If you have insurance and/or you're not court ordered into treatment, do yourself and your family a favor and go to Valley Hope or literally any other treatment facility. This place is the last stop on the treatment circuit before incarceration. To the staff- I just ask that maybe, just maybe you read this, and all of the other reviews and try to look at these statements not as attacks on your character by some drug addled delinquents; but as opportunities for real growth that can be earned as a community, and eventually shared amongst the broader community that we all call home. Until then, I'll keep checking back and keep leaving more encouraging reviews! I have so much more I could say and I know how fond you all are of thoughtfully receiving feedback and criticism and using it constructively! Much love 😀

Helped me get sober and taught me skills to cope with the stressors of life rather than drinking and drugging... Help me get back on my feet and get my life back thru counseling and meds and a handful of resources... Got me on Medicaid and some meds to help with my craving and with draws... This amazing caring staff IS the difference at heartland. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. I have worked with this organization and have several contacts enroll and receive services here. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. SHE IS EXTREMELY RESOURCEFUL, AND IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE TAKING YOUR RECOVERY SERIOUS AND TRYING TO BETTER YOUR LIFE THEN THE SKYS THE LIMIT AS FAR AS WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR YOU. I wouldn't mislead or try to benefit from someone seeking recovery as so many people and places do. This is the best place around especially if you dont have private health insurance.

When I was referred to seek Outpatient Treatment, I called around to research options in the KC Area. Clay was the best to speak with about the treatment as he's working with the group daily compared to others who were giving me generic answers. After speaking with him, I started my treatment the following week. The group setting was, at first, intimidating, but within the first few minutes, they made me feel included. Clay challenges all the participants to dig deep within themselves when they have an assignment to share, and it's absolutely amazing. I went into my first group meeting feeling ashamed but left that same night feeling excited about the coming sessions. Every session was great, not just because of Clay's leadership but because of the group of wonderful people who all share the same goal. This was one of the best experiences I could have ever had, and I'm eternally thankful for the way the treatments were run and the growth I experienced because of it! I highly recommend AppleCore to anyone.

I worked here for about 5 months to cover a temporary leave in therapy and absolutely love this rehab and nursing facility. The therapy and restorative team is very experienced and caring. You're definitely in great hands with this them. I felt all the staff in other departments I interacted with or worked alongside is also great. They are approachable, friendly, and genuinely care, including nurses, CNAs, DON, administrator, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, the doctor who oversees many therapy patients, and transportation staff. There are a lot of move and groove groups or entertainers who make it a fun atmosphere that people can choose to go to. The place is kept clean, and the unique, vibrant style of the building makes you feel like you're on a cruise ship. I enjoyed getting to be a part of this great team and atmosphere during my time here.

The Salvation Army Shield of Service was a program located in Kansas City, Missouri. This program supported recently released parolees who were experiencing struggles with substance use or mental health and needed a supportive place to live while they worked through their issues. My 52-year-old nephew had not been sober for 30 years, during which he had been and out of detox and treatment centers, to include the this Salvation Army. They actually went to where he was "living" and brought him back into their treatment center. For the first time in his life, THIS time, he has not walked out and has stayed there for going on four months. He also has serious OCD, which he has learned much about from being there through their education programs. We all know that these disorders are difficult, but for some reason, finally, my nephew is beginning to see his life with more self-awareness and clarity. Early in his treatment there, he complained to me that there were many strict rules for the residents. My response to him was, "How many rules did you have for yourself to comply with when you were drinking constantly, that you followed to improve the quality of your life?" Now, he strives to comply with those simple rules.

I've been contacted by one of the owners after a rough experience and felt like I was actually heard when I voiced my concerns. Mediators are fantastic, though the gentleman who did my substance assessment didn't seem to actually hear my answers and made a few alarming assumptions- this concern has been addressed and will be dealt with accordingly. I already recieve a lot of the services suggested through AAHH with another agency; however, I can say that the program I currently am attending is somewhat beneficial and I'm taking away a lot from it. It can be triggering, but thankfully, the mediators DO listen and empathize greatly without feeling like they are judging or critical. Yes, it can be a frustrating experience, but they do their best to rectify anything that can be corrected. Though you should always do your research before selecting who do complete programs, at least AAHH try to find a middle ground. Also, read through any and all fine print when sent to you, so you can catch any mistakes (as was the case of the assessment) because they will take the time to fix it.
