I personally would have never signed myself up for the IOP classes but im glad court mandated me to take them after I got pulled over drunk. Sue is such an amazing counselor and makes you feel comfortable to be able to talk about my issues and be able to work on them. I am a very stubborn person and she helped me realize that some of the things were not right. I still continue to see her once a month even after my program was done. I’ve learned so much, even though the curriculum they have to read out of and engage with the class, is a bit outdated, Alyssa and Sue still manage to bring the topics up to date to help you relate and retain. Sue, Alyssa and Jess…some of the most compassionate and understanding people you could ever ask and hope for going through this life choice of committing to better not only your health, your mental health. Each pod has 5-9 people sorted by issue (e.g. Bear for neurodivergent, Bobcat for depression). This is your programming pod. You might get a roommate, a single, or a room with a bathroom.The schedule is "groups," activities, and free time. Groups are usually useless; you answer questions on a sheet or discuss a TED talk. You get three therapy sessions a week: primary, counselor, and family. I programmed with Bobcat but lived in Fox in a single room.The houses are very nice. Everybody curses all the time, including staff. You visit the basketball court, yurt, and play ga-ga ball. Once a week is "adventure" (paddleboarding, hiking). The adventure therapist is very nice and took me on an individual 5K. You do MMA twice a week with Jeremy, who is nice and fun. There is a gym with a treadmill, but the rowing machine and bike are broken. Your pod usually uses the Nintendo Switch once a week. You watch up to a PG-13 movie most nights.You get three meals and three snacks daily. Snacks are often unhealthy, with fruit occasionally. You can get a max of seconds at meals, or get a Boost drink approved by a dietician. If you dislike dinner, you can eat pasta. Lunch alternatives are sun butter, turkey, or ham sandwiches. The food is hit-or-miss, so I usually ate alternatives. Saturdays have a pastry buffet and Sundays have a cereal bar.The nurses are very incompetent. They watch YouTube while giving meds and often gave me the wrong ones. IF YOU GO, LEARN WHAT YOUR MEDS LOOK LIKE AND CORRECT THEM!!!There is a leveling system. Your first 3 days are "Focus" (no adventures, 7.5-minute calls). Self-harm, purging, or aggression puts you on "Refocus" for 3 days. You stage up weekly by doing binder work and behaving. "Mentor" is the highest level, giving 20-minute calls and an MP3 player. It is stupid that you only get music at the highest level. I only leveled up once because I complained about the nurses' medication errors.Some staff are nice, some are mean. The pod staff are called BHS (behavior health specialists). They curse a lot but are chill. One BHS named Haley (or Haleigh) is pretty awful, though the therapist named Haleigh is not bad. I was approved by the dietician to get fruit during snack because I was on a med that makes me hungry. When I tried, she said that the med should only make me hungry right after I take it (biologically, that's NOT how it works, haley!) and wouldn't let me take fruit. Staff scroll YouTube shorts and make fun of you in a Teams group chat. One client was throwing books, and during a psych meeting on a tablet I saw the notifications of the teams chat. They said "remind them of opposite action" ( a dbt skill) and another person replied "they opposite actioned the heck out of those books." There is no equine therapy or ropes courses at Conneticut; that is a lie. In Bobcat, one kid was pissing on the bathroom floor and it turned out to be my best friend. A few years ago, an incident happened where a staff basically broke some really bad rules and messed up. When I brought it up, Ms. Daneesha, a bobcat staff, got very upset and said she was going to talk to a higher-up to talk to me about it. She said she wasn't retaliating but it seemed like she was. The staff also let people bully you a lot and like I said suck at breaking up fights; they definitely are not trained well enough. People fart on each other a lot there. I had depression, SH, and family issues. Somehow, I actually was cured of my depression here. I am going to be honest: the overall quality of living there is kind of rough in conneticut as of 2026. However, I was skeptical at first, but if you genuinely trust the program, it will help you get better. If you're nervous, I hoped this help. 4/5. They even called to check in and make sure everything was going okay, which meant a lot to us. My daughter is very sensitive and it takes her time to adjust and feel comfortable, so having people who are patient and understanding makes a big difference. They have really taken the time to care for her needs. It has only been a week, so we are still seeing how everything goes, but so far we are very thankful and appreciate all the care and communication. Prior to Newport , our family was at its lowest point. My son was hurting on the inside but the only way he could express it was violence towards himself or Us his parents. I knew the root was hurt because he experienced a lot of childhood trauma due to me being a severe alcoholic from the time he was born until I got sober when he was 10yrs old. After getting sober and healthy for myself, I tried it all to help him, therapy, psychiatrist, church. He continued to get worse. I finally found Newport and prayed a residential treatment program might help us. It did!!!! Newport exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical at first after reading other google reviews but my experience was amazing. They didn’t just provide the tools and therapy and psychiatric help my son needed, They also provided all of that for us as his parents as well. It was an all around family therapy that I didn’t realize we desperately needed. They told me from the jump if I put in the work while my son was residing in their program putting in the work that’s when we would see a difference. So I did it I showed up virtually to every family therapy session. I also got one on one parent therapy sessions. These parent therapy sessions were a game changer. I learned how to parent differently. I learned how to speak to my son. I learned about his diagnosis.. Every child is different, but I grew up that there was only one way to parent and I was wrong! Since my son’s been home, he’s thriving. He’s going to his group therapy every single day in an Outpatient therapy that Newport helped us find in our area before being discharged. We love each other, and we speak to each other with respect. I actually never thought that my son and his stepfather would ever have a healthy relationship and their relationship seems better than my own with my son. It has blown me away and the staff At Newport, not only exceeding my expectation, but saved my family. I hope whoever reading this knows I’m not blowing smoke. I am a real person with a real family that desperately needed help and when I sent my son to Newport and I followed all their instructions we got more help than I ever expected. I’m bad at explaining in words exactly what they did for us, but I encourage you to pray about it if your child is going through something and I also want to assure you, my son was safe and he came home happy and healthy for the first time in his life. I’ve been sober ever since. Out of all the places I went, this was the place where it finally clicked for me. Their long term program and tough love approach were exactly what I needed no sugarcoating, no excuses, just real recovery and real accountability. If you’re truly tired of the life of drug abuse and genuinely want to change, I highly recommend St. Christopher’s Inn. The staff, the structure, and the brotherhood helped save my life. Has gone way above and beyond trying to make sure that we make progress with her health. He even talked to me about her health after he was off the clock and heading out of the facility. I couldn't ask for anymore than what he has helped her with. Also the back up nurse for Chris. Was outstanding. Went over all of her medication with me. You could see that you really really cared about my sister. I'm not sure if her name but she was white in her early 30s with brown hair. The head dietitian I believe her name was Anne-Marie was outstanding. Went above and beyond to make sure all of my sisters dietary needs were taken care of down to the smallest detail. On several occasions, Debbie in activities was outstanding. Was doing everything she could to make my sisters visit as enjoyable as possible. The nurses on the fifth floor were all excellent and very helpful to me. Also, everyone at the Front reception was outstanding. Today there was a bad person when I was in there mistreating his girlfriend and the receptionist stepped up and told him he needed to leave the property. He was very unruly. She was very courageous and doing so❤️I know my sister was a handful so I appreciate everybody going above and beyond to have her try to make progress on her health. Wellspring challenges the residents to step up as members of a community and be accountable for how their actions impact those around them. the plant & animal program there offers the residents a chance to pour love into other living creatures, helping mirror the love they are capable of pouring into themselves. There are many challenges at any treatment facility, but I truly believe that Wellspring navigates those challenges better than most places. Not everyone leaves healed, for many its just the beginning of their journey. Many of the girls I was there with continued to struggle upon leaving, but we all reflect on what we learned at Wellspring with love and appreciation. It may not be for everyone but that doesn't discount the healing it has offered to countless families. No place is perfect but my family and I will forever be grateful for Wellspring. Julia Ohara 4 months ago I highly recommend the residential Adolescent Intensive Program (AIP) at Wellspring CT to anyone looking for a healing, loving, intentional program focused on helping teenage females recover from -- or at least cope with -- anxiety, depression, and trauma. I'll start by saying I'm a parent, not a resident, but I checked with my daughter (P.) and she agrees with everything I say in this review. P. has struggled for years with depression and anxiety, and we tried various other programs before Wellspring. None of the other programs we checked out worked for us or for P. We have been very wary of residential programs because of everything we're read about the troubled teen industry (TTI). The difference between Wellspring and other programs lies in the genuine care provided by Wellspring staff, combined with a peaceful and beautiful living environment in which residents are given time and space to rediscover some joy in the world. Key to all of this are the wonderful people who work with the residents. The director of Wellspring AIP, Joe Mancione, sets the tone for the entire program. He clearly genuinely cares for the residents he's working with. You have absolutely no sense that Joe or his team are in it for the money (unlike so many other programs we considered). P. has worked with a bunch of therapists, but we've never seen anyone come close to Joee in terms of connection, insight, and ability. His ability to lovingly challenge negative thoughts and emotions is breathtaking to observe, and P. truly flourished under his care. Every staff member working with Joe in the program was honestly wonderful: gentle, caring, real. The residents live together in a big old farmhouse, surrounded by beautiful grounds. They cook together, clean, take responsibility for caring for farm animals (goats, chickens, a rabbit), play games, make music, meditate. The environment is one of calm beauty, and it was possible to watch new residents slowly come to the realization they were somewhere safe where they start to heal again. If this all sounds a bit new-agey, I'd also say that the staff are all highly trained and very intentional in the environment they create. They really do know what they are doing. If, like us, you despaired of ever finding a residential program that is genuinely caring and healing, take a look at Wellspring. P. and I are so happy that we did! If it was forced upon you or just not ready then may be the place but it may take you more than 1 attempt . In the beginning it’s about reducing amount of your intake substance as you increase amount of medication. That amount and that pace is unique to the individual and CCC recognizes that and also respects that . As long as you trend in proper direction and continue to show progress you have the support of your Counselor. Once stabilized they develop your treatment plan. When you have decreased and eliminated substances and have found a comfortable level of medication dosage that is when you now replaced your bad habit routine with a daily monitored stabilized routine that also is unique to the comfort level of individual discussing a wide range of topics with your assigned counselor: once trust is earned having clean random monthly tests you don’t have to be at the facility unless you chose to and you can begin to take home monitored medication to responsibly proceed with your outpatient program. Your counselor will encourage the timing the is best to decrease at the pace that works for you until you are done and substance free. So much better than 30 day, 90 day ,12 month 0r any predetermined length of time programs because every person is unique whether they feel confident they can do it in a year, 3 yrs, 5 , 10 or stay with this support system as a new part of life what is important is that new life is what you WANTED to achieve and join the team of success stories! In most other reviews I agree that it is about money for the center , but what business , paying their employees ,is not about making money to stay afloat? Also not all counselors are ex addicts that have felt & know exactly what & how we feel, but we can open up & let them learn about the uncontrollable disease & struggles of how our mind works!
