Every time I had a question she helped gave me a list of doctors I can check up with when I got done with treatment for my blood pressure she had my back tryin to get me away from my bad thoughts She didnt just do her job she went out of her way when the others wasnt trying to She hooked me up with info helped me figure out how to get my Social Security card and even gave me a journal so I could put my thoughts down when my head was all over the place. This woman helped me get my life right for real. I respect her to the fullest, and she deserves all the props. I called up here and was stressed because I thought I missed my code a phone. She swiftly connected me to the right facility and I was able to resolve my issue immediately. She made sure that I had the right resources and she was always available when I needed. Her group was great but the individual therapy that I had with her was even more meaningful and really helped me open my eyes to the problems that I have and that I’ve continued to get over. Nice people! Scuba Steve 2 months ago I was in the behavioral health unit at Kings Mountain. It had several issues I would say are consistent with BHUs, but all in all, it was better than many. Cindy, Faith, Unek, and Courtney were great nurses who went above and beyond to provide an exceptional level of care. As far as techs go, Jayden went to the extreme to make everyone feel comfortable and help others. Daisy and Nick were also great. I hate that I didn't write everyone's name down but the night nurse with shorter hair and glasses who got me my IVC paperwork was awesome as well. Steve was another great tech who was very respectful. You can almost always use the phone and you eat well (I cannot recommend the pork carnitas enough). Jolanda was a great dietician who would complete orders thoroughly and as the patient would like them. Roberta helped me access my phone to cancel a pending bill. That was invaluable and needed or else my card would have overdrafted during my stay As far as the doctors go, I have mixed feelings. I have doubts about my diagnosis and I was informed by nurse practitioner Morgan Parrish that she could explain to me how I have my alleged disorder all based off previous doctor's observations. I refused to hear another word from her at that point but she was quick enough to remind me "refusing to talk to her would lengthen my stay" (more or less what she said). I don't believe it did and thank God I didn't. Doctor Adams and Doctor Shannon were very kind in conversation with me and seemed like they cared about helping me. I have not read their opinions and i'd take them with a grain of salt. I go through some things in my life ordinarily people don't. If you express them to a doctor it can make you seem paranoid. So I did on this visit and i'm unsure if this influenced my treatment or not. My primary gripe is that Dr. Shelby recommended (more or less forced, treatment over objection) a long acting injectable regimen for me. I was already taking the medication orally and continued to for roughly 8 or 9 days of my hospitalization. If he had told me from the beginning he planned on forcing the shot I could've went home sooner if the process were sped up? At least that's the way it seemed to me. I expressed no thoughts of harming myself or others nor exhibited any symptoms of psychosis throughout the entirety of my stay. If you need help and come of your own accord, I'd say this is a great place to receive treatment. Just know if you're not in a state of crisis, your mental health needs are likely better treated at home. I was dropped back home by transport rather than the sheriff's department so that was nice There were others who did good and some not so good I did not mention. The VA as a whole is a joke, and the providers are limited. It seems the non-medical staff often show up to collect a check and the PTO for government holidays. Getting any VA facility to answer a phone is next to impossible. When they do, you certainly have the wrong extension, department, clinic, etc. I have found my team to be extremely responsive to the secure messaging however. I went through about 6 primary care Dr, and several mental health providers before I landed where I am. I have since moved out of state and will travel to keep my current provider team. You will be respected, heard, and treated with dignity. You won't be dismissed, all your questions will be answered. Be completely honest so that you can receive the exact care that you need. You could not ask for better accomodations or understanding. The environment is immediately welcoming. Its quiet, peaceful. They have everything you need, you really just need clothing. (Its a bit chilly, bring hoodies and fuzzy socks) There are even laundry facilities. You will be provided with a vape or nicotine patches if you use nicotine products. You may rest as much as you need, the staff will let you sleep through the night, vitals are during the day. You can call your family, except for during group meetings. No visitors, but the stay is short. The counselors and peer support specialists are very honest, open, and eager to help you with your personal journey, without being pushy or making you feel rushed. Whether faith based or evidence based care is right for you, that is your choice. There are options for both approaches! The idea of group meetings was terrifying for me, an introvert, an addict full of shame and guilt. You are not obligated to contribute, that was reassuring. But I was surprised at myself for wanting to contribute and engage. It was a bit sad leaving. While here, I was not just a junkie, just an alcoholic, a lost cause, all of the negative adjectives I used to describe myself. I wasn't the things my family called me. I wasn't an echo of the childhood I lost. I wasn't an empty, lonely vessel on autopilot. I was a person. A human. Im more than my story, but sharing our perspectives and caring for each other felt like being part of a family. A family where you aren't the black sheep. It was almost overwhelming to feel that kind of support and HOPE. Ill be honest; When I came in, i wasn't ready to get help. The timing was just right. But very quickly that changed. They made me want to be better. Not for recognition or pats on the back. Not for attention or brownie points.
