With the job I was at, working double shifts almost every day and still not making enough to live, and then coming home to even more stress, I was at my breaking point. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr Light's while I was here, and continued to see him for a few more months following my release. I was only in this hospital for a week, but I learned a lot during my stay. Dr Light, and the group sessions, taught me plenty of ways to manage my depression and anxiety. I loved the nurse, Tito, he was such a fun and kind soul to have on that floor with us all. I met some amazing people in this hospital who were also struggling with mental health. Although I haven't heard from them in a few years, I am so grateful to have cross paths with them and hope they are doing well. As for me, I have been off my antidepressants for almost 4 years now, and I do feel like a big part of that is thanks to the skills this place has given me. The hospital was clean, and the staff were kind, but the food was not too great. I will say though, I think my only complaint was the way billing is handled. The day before I was released, a woman came into the room to ask me how I would be paying for my stay. That caught me off guard, especially with financials being one of the things that triggered my depression. I think that should be something they should just mail to you and then later on you can figure out a payment plan with them. I actually ended up selling my 2017 Toyota Tacoma (which I miss more than anything) to pay them after my stay. Rebecca L. 1 month ago Was there for my daughter. Milly Voskanyan 4 months ago I just wanted to come on here and say that I am extremely grateful for the counselor I was given when I joined the treatment center in Virginia Beach Mrs EL is an angel sent from heaven she listened to everything I had to say and she made me feel heard and she made me feel like she actually cared about what I was going through she will call me and check up on me even just to ask about my life it doesn't always have to be about work and what she supposed to do to keep her job it's actually her being a human and caring so the best thing that clinic has going for them if you want me to be honest is her and all the good people that are there leave the people that deserve to be treated the best don't get treated the best and I know whoever owns bhg needs to be grateful to have her as a counselor because she's actually doing more than just her job she's actually being there for her clients she treats them like humans and not addicts. She advocates for everybody. Just recently I had a mishap when I had surgery they ended up giving me a benzo in my IV and I didn't know so when I went to the clinic they got my take homes taken away well it was extremely hard to get my hospital papers to prove that it was put in my IV so I can get my take homes back they kept saying they didn't receive the paperwork at the clinic and it took at least almost 3 weeks a little over and one day Mrs EL happened to be working at the front desk and I wasn't even going to say anything but she asked me about it while she went over by the printer and started looking to see if she could find my paperwork well it was under stacks of paper so it was there the whole time so needless to say she got me my phone back as fast as she could and got me a month worth of take homes she went to bat for me and I am forever grateful. So again I came on here to post a review and I usually do not do that but she deserves the review and so much more Mrs EL if you're reading this thank you so much for being my angel sent from above thank you for reaching out to me and checking on me on a daily basis even though I only come in there once a month thank you for caring for me and showing that not only acting but you have shown me multiple times I hope you get so many blessings in your life cuz you deserve every one of them. Before you enter the program you are given in detail what you are signing up for. You are told from the beginning this is a Work Therapy program, and that you will have to attend Christian based spiritual classes and services. The resident managers have to deal with up to 100 something men so please don't listen to that one negative review about the program itself and about the program employees who's names should not be mentioned. Without God placing me here I would be on the street, dead in my addiction or worse. They do not force you to stay. The doors are meant to keep randoms out, not to keep someone unwilling to change their life, in. If you are struggling with addiction, or want to grow in your relationship with Christ, or even if you have no religion you are welcome here. Trust me I never thought in a million years that 5 years in prison would be a part of my story. But it was part of Gods plan. You see God had to sit me down for 5 years to gain perspective on just how reckless my life had become. Before prison I was a womanizing, home wrecking drunkard. I had no respect towards anyone’s marriage vows, let alone my own. Because I was being selfish I chose to get involved with an old high school girlfriend that was married with 4 kids. Our relationship should have been left in 1995. To spare you the details. I made my usual selfish mistakes and caused so much anger in a woman who truly loved and tried to help me. In that anger she attacked me with fists, instead of responding in my usual humble blocking of fists, I met her with the same rage she had towards me. In the end of this mess I was sentenced to 45 years by a Virginia Judge (https://www.richmondbar.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Chesterfield.pdf )with a 6 years (5 years/2 months with good time) active sentence to serve in the horribly dysfunctional Virginia Prison System. One of the few people that believes in second chances is Dr. Paul Hardy from Recovery 4 Recovery for Life. Because the Virginia DOC system is so corrupt and dysfunctional I didn’t have a home plan nor was my Interstate Compact Completed in time for me to return to Washington State. I honestly had no where to go once I was released! All I had to my name was $1200 on my books from a measly .45 cents/hour job in prison and what ever my family was able scrape up and send to me. Dr. Paul took a chance on having someone convicted of a violent crime (domestic battery) and offered me a second chance by allowing me to live at the recovery house. This opportunity allowed me the time to get back on my feet while I waited (2 months) for my Interstate Compact to be approved for Washington State. If it wasn’t for Recovery 4 Life, Dr. Paul, and the awesome owners (Stacie Gallinal) of Marco’s Pizza at 1544 Laskin Rd #212, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. I honestly could have been homeless and jobless. You see if you just listen to Gods plan. He will provide you all the help you need if you’re willing to accept it! But after getting in touch with your agency, I didn't know that I was about to be challenged, so that my insurance could be reinstated. The ongoing need for MORE information, started to affect me mentally, and physically. I had no CNA, no transportation to my doctor's appointments, No medication therefore left me totally and completely spiraling out of control. I spiraled so hard that I became incoherent to friend and family. . Nothing was making sense to me, but I was in a unstable mind, due to lack of medication. This had to be solved!!! I'd even reached out to my workers supervisor , but never heard back from Mr Gillum. Lack of my Medicaid reinstated, I struggled a unbelievable close to death experience, that don't ever want to visit AGAIN. After countless phone calls, Mrs Hamlin, was able to reinstate my coverage, I was completely overwhelmed, and want to Thank her, for working and not jeopardizing job, which I appreciate. Thank you Mrs Turner Hamlin, for working on my reinstatement!!!! I appreciate the staff at the Department of Social services. And a special shout-out to Mrs Turner Hamlin for making it happen. P.S. I had a lot going on with my mental health that I wasn't managing properly. From the moment I sat down in front of her I knew I was in the right place. She provides an instant sense of security. You never feel like you're misunderstood or dismissed in any way. She makes incredible eye contact which adds to me knowing she's truly actively listening to me. She encouraged me to go get a full psych eval at another facility where I learned all of my diagnoses and my whole life immediately made more sense than it ever had. She's gotten me on all of the right meds and I'm the most stable and regulated I've ever been. I owe so much to her and she's too humble to even realize it. I'm getting confidence in myself back and feeling more comfortable with who I am than ever before. I don't believe I would have gotten anywhere near as to where I am right now had she not come into my orbit. She's compassionate, caring, understanding, a great listener, an absolute sweetheart, and she has the most amazing heart. She's truly saving lives and making more of a difference in this world than than she realizes. The world needs more people like her, though there could never be another her. She is 1,000% in the profession she should be in and I would recommend her to anyone and everyone!! The ladies at the front window are also incredible. They know you by name the second they see you and are always so warm and friendly. I've never been to any medical office where everyone there just brings the highest levels of comfort. No one ever seems frustrated to be there or comes off like they'd rather be somewhere else. It's become a thing for me to bring them home baked treats at every visit and making food for people is one of my love languages. But just anyone doesn't get that from me... Morgan and the ladies up front deserve it though and I love being able to share that with them!! Pretty much since the research Dr location opened. Have been there thru all the B's in the beginning, have outlasted all the original workers there. Even though the staff seems to constantly change it is changing for the better. Only issue I have is the counselors, they come and go.. I'm not going to open up and spill my everything to only have to repeat it again a month or two later. I wish Dr. Orr would come back!! He was my favorite. Well missile took it right back to her and showed her it's right here so again she's the one and only reason I have my take homes she's been working on getting me my take homes once again while moving up in my take-homes and there's one doctor there that's never there so it's next to impossible to get take homes but she made it happen and is still trying to make it happen. All I want to say is you have amazing people that work there that keep getting ran away all the time by the employees there that are just there for a paycheck I'm just thankful that she got me on the path that I need to be on mentally and physically before anything happens to her honestly because from here on out I will continue to do good and I will always think of her Nichole Flowers 7 months ago I m grateful for my counselor Ms. Michelle and the nurses are great.
