Bayside Marin has many Veterans, Cops and Firemen as patients. Perhaps the disaffected reviewers found it difficult to accept the presence of soldiers and cops. Some of the younger patients had spotty health plans---that could cause anxiety. Yet I've never read so many accusations backed with so little evidence...... This was my first detox. It took me another year to quit. Bayside is posh with nice architecture, furniture, computers, view and food. A kind and caring staff of pros. I never felt discounted or dismissed. Our group was supervised by a nice Argentine nurse....An eight day detox. I should have been placed with the old cops, firemen and SF union folk. But as always, I was placed with the youth. 80% of us were veterans. I admire the young veterans, but I had little in common with them. Yet it was the first time in my life I got to hang with soldiers and Vets. I have unending gratitude toward Bayside for their treatment and to the VA for sending a wretch like me to find a cure. Cornelius Sulla 1 month ago Bayside Marin is an excellent treatment center, I'd rate it #2 in northern California. At first, I didn't want to go here, mainly because of negative reviews and hearsay from an acquaintance, and corporate ownership. But I quickly changed my mind. I came here devestated by a very traumatic year of my life, in as much of a mental health crisis as I was in a substance one. Throughout the length of my stay, I was treated with understanding, patience and compassion. The bulk of their program is cookie cutter evidence based, but high quality. The employees at Bayside really care about their work, and their clients, and because of this it didn't have a corporate feel, even though they're owned by Acadia. What made this stay extra special for me was the therapy and one on one conversations I had with staff. I had the honor and privilege of working with the best therapist I've ever seen. When there's a true match with therapy it can be magical, spiritual. I have transformed into a better version of myself because of the one on one work with my therapist, whose intelligence, wit, patience, and compassion helped me to rise above and shine, despite facing some extremely challenging triggers in residential this time. When you can't fully care about yourself, sometimes you can borrow someone else's faith in you until you're able to care about yourself a little more. By the end of my stay, I felt more confident and centered than I had in a long time. I also wanted to say, the tech supervisor helped guide me psychologically and spiritually as I faced various challenges at Bayside, and helped revive my interest in spirituality, meditation and awakening. I had the best spiritual and psychological support I could have asked for, which I thought would be impossible after being at Olympia House in 2022. (Both are good rehabs with their unique strengths and weaknesses. I learned a lot at both, but they're not directly comparable, OH is a little more unique in terms of approach and programming. Bayside was extra meaningful because of the particular therapist I worked with, the behavioral technician supervisor I mentioned and the particular clients I bonded with. They actually listen to client feedback and I watched them make numerous improvements over the three months I was there. With that said, there is room for further improvement. Clients are shuffled over to the main campus from detox with very little explanation of where to go and when, which leaves freshly detoxed clients confused, angry, and feeling disrespected. I've been told they're working on fixing this problem. Scheduling glitches do happen, but that's true of any medium or large rehab. They do their best. And also, sometimes communication can be a little complicated between departments. No place is perfect. Gorgeous campus. Food was great. I was told this was a rehab for rich people who valued aesthetics over content, but that's not what I found here. They have some incredible talent working for them and client socioeconomic backgrounds are mixed. 2026 update: I've had to return to Bayside and things have only gotten better, taking my review from 4 stars to 5. A lot of mediocre therapists have left, replaced by excellent ones, and they have made subtle but noticable improvements to the programming. I'm SO grateful for Bayside Marin, one of the finest treatment centers in northern California and perhaps the country. Last. I would encourage people, strongly, to ask to change their therapist if the initial assignment isn't a match. I did, and it made all the difference in my stay. The New Bridge environment (residential treatment facility, & extended satellite sober living environment), are safe and clean, and provide the type of space where I was able to successfully focus on, addiction & mental health curriculums, group therapy, as well as personalized "one-on-one" therapy/counseling sessions. Additionally, the treatment facility environment is supportive of "peer-to-peer" feed back & coping skills, "focus" and "affirmation tools".., all (to which I found) have great value in early recovery...! What I enjoyed most about New Bridge is the dignified and professional way each staff member treated me, and treated me as valued (from the newest staff member, to the kitchen staff, to nurse staff, maintenance staff, the on-site doctors, to group staff, the clinical coordinator staff, the assistant director, up to the director). Alicia helped me deal with my HR Rep and insurance so that I didn’t have to. I don’t know that I could have done anything of the sort during that first week. I came in having zero knowledge of how any of it worked and Alicia was able to answer all of my questions and help with whatever was needed. I felt that Alicia truly looked out for each client. As a technician, Gus really took the time and effort to help me with the entire process. I was clueless when I first walked in but I felt taken care of and looked after. I felt that Gus really cared for all of the patients on a personal level. He tried to connect with each of us and shared his knowledge and hope with the whole group. Overall, I felt safe here. Which is huge when dealing with addiction and being afraid of asking for help. I was able to worry only about my recovery knowing that everything else was being looked after. I recommend to anyone dealing with addiction needing to separate themselves from their substance as the first step on their recovery journey. I've been to the 3 East B adolscent psych unit multiple times, so I'm very familiar with everyone. The therapist Emilio, Megan, and Susanna were so nice to me, and a nurse named Chris. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice. I was withdrawing from a super heavy Xanax addiction. The withdrawal was the scariest thing that I've ever been through but they used medically assisted treatment to taper me off. I went through hell and back but they almost got me through it. Luckily they knew how to treat me. They sent me to the mental health department when things got really bad and then I came back for the rest of my treatment. The groups and counselors are great and very informative and educational. The nurses on the other hand were horrible and didnt understand what was happening with me during withdrawal. I told them I was hallucinating and scared and didn't know where I was in the middle of the night but they just told me to go back to my room. I begged for help and was scared to death but they wouldn't help me. They ended up transporting me to mental health when I was blacked out and out of control. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start. Pros to going to Palm Ave: -The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic. -It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people. -Food was very clean, healthy, and always available. -Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it. -There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led. -They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep. Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories. Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours. Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county.
