Physically and emotionally unstable. But after about day 3, I started having …. dare I say it…. fun (in detox!). I think the most important thing an addict can experience is having fun (while sober). The staff really knows their stuff, so you always feel safe. They also have an enthusiasm and sense of humor that is contagious. Mike and his team are deeply embedded in the sober community. This enables them to help with your sober journey post Heartwood. Therapists, sober living options or simply friends in the community are all available with their help. For friends, or family members, if ever needing this type of help, Heartwood would be my first call. They have my unqualified endorsement. Only one warning. Watch out for the food! My loved one's sister recently attended Heartwood Detox in San Rafael, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. She was understandably scared and uncertain about taking this next step in her recovery journey, but from day one, the team at Heartwood welcomed her with open arms and made her feel supported, safe, and cared for.
One thing that really stood out to us was that many of the staff members have been in her shoes and understand firsthand how scary it can be to take that first step toward recovery. Their personal experiences, combined with their compassion and encouragement, helped her feel comfortable and gave her hope that recovery was possible.
The entire experience exceeded our expectations. Not only did she successfully begin her recovery, but she also experienced tremendous personal growth during her time there. Since completing the program, we've seen positive changes in every aspect of her life—from stronger family relationships to improved friendships and a more positive professional outlook.
The staff was exceptional throughout the process. Everyone treated her with compassion, respect, and genuine concern for her well-being. A special thank you goes to Jesse, the owner, who truly stood out. Jesse's dedication, kindness, and hands-on involvement made a lasting impact on both her and our family. He was the star of the experience and played a huge role in helping her feel welcomed, supported, and confident in her recovery journey. It was clear that he genuinely cares about every person who walks through the doors.
If you or a loved one are considering treatment, I would highly recommend Heartwood Detox. They provided the support, guidance, and encouragement needed to help start a new chapter in life.

I am a person that never ever gives reviews, however, I believe this one warns it. Going to a detox and a rehab is so hard scary and you are riddled with shame when I was at Heartwood and I finally was able to get the strength to eat, the first person that shared kindness, no judgment, no disrespect, and no shame was the Chef at Heartwood Novato. I don’t remember what his name is, but what I do remember is how he made me feel. I have been at rehab before and this time it was very different and I have been sober since this Chef has brown hair, kind eyes, and he would talk to me, and I saw him talk to all the clients and listen to them and hear their stories and make them feel so good about who they are as a human being not about the things that they have done. And I think this person really deserves to be lifted and raised up to the highest because that’s what he gave to me into the other clients that I got to see while I was there. I really think it’s important to recognize those that help light up our souls because that’s what we need in this world and so this recognition is to the Chef at Heartwood Novato to thank this person for lighting up my soul when it felt so dark, and it felt so judged, and it was riddled with shame it was you that fed me and it was you that helps me feel more human than anyone else has ever made me feel. Thank you for your delicious organic food and for the beautiful conversations that we had. You are a gift to the recovery world.

Bayside Marin truly changed my life. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, respected, and genuinely cared for. The staff goes above and beyond every single day, treating each person with compassion, professionalism, and encouragement. Their dedication to helping people recover is evident in everything they do.
The facility itself is beautiful, peaceful, and exceptionally well maintained. It creates a comfortable environment where you can focus entirely on healing and personal growth. Every aspect of the program is designed to support long-term recovery, and I always felt safe and supported throughout my stay.
One thing that pleasantly surprised me was the quality of the food. Every meal was delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. Having such great meals made a difficult journey much more comfortable.
I am incredibly grateful to everyone at Bayside Marin for giving me the tools, support, and hope to build a better future. If you or someone you love is looking for a rehabilitation center that truly cares about its clients, I cannot recommend Bayside Marin highly enough. The ER team is incredible and all very attentive. Many people came to check in on me and were receptive to all my questions and requests for help. Dr. Sangoi and the huge team of RNs/nurse assistants (including but not limited to Joy, Nick, Sophia, Raquel, and many more that I cannot recall the names of) were extremely helpful and kind. I also appreciate how generous they were with their time.

Best curb I got kicked to { so to speak. } which is currently Nicole Martinez, the best I’ve ever had , She definitely help me get to where I am now she goes above and beyond helped me in my life so much, I don’t even know what I’m gonna do when we goes our separate ways 😔..I wish I can take her with me. New Bridge offers an exceptionally talented team of, staff members, addiction specialist, and clinician's who've helped me address my co-occurring substances and mental health issues. The New Bridge environment (residential treatment facility, & extended satellite sober living environment), are safe and clean, and provide the type of space where I was able to successfully focus on, addiction & mental health curriculums, group therapy, as well as personalized "one-on-one" therapy/counseling sessions. Additionally, the treatment facility environment is supportive of "peer-to-peer" feed back & coping skills, "focus" and "affirmation tools".., all (to which I found) have great value in early recovery...!
What I enjoyed most about New Bridge is the dignified and professional way each staff member treated me, and treated me as valued (from the newest staff member, to the kitchen staff, to nurse staff, maintenance staff, the on-site doctors, to group staff, the clinical coordinator staff, the assistant director, up to the director). These staff members, all, display a "real human" level of authenticity and care...! I'm truly happy that I chose New Bridge..!!!
I will offer this thought to anyone who is wondering if this is the right place, or not..., "if you have a true and real desire to gain recovery, everything you will need to assist you, to help you focus, guide & support you in the process of recovery.., can be found at New Bridge..!!!" I highly recommend this amazing treatment facility, and hope you do not waste another second deciding on when to start your "road to recovery" at New Bridge - because it starts the moment you say "Yes"..!!!
"Thank You New Bridge...!!!"

Despite this place being a small health clinic, the medical staff does step up with their professionalism. Supposedly, this place is meant for those who are looking to solve their addict problem. At the same time though, people can see a physician here for a physical check up. Truly appreciate their professionalism from the personnel returning phone calls when people leave them messages, to the personnel being able to give patients their diagnostic. People can even contact the medical staff via email. There is parking available but, it is limited due to the space being small.

San Francisco, CA | HealthRight 360 – FOTEP is an addiction treatment center for adults, located in San Francisco, California. For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important.
There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening
Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time.
Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules.
Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed.
Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you.
If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor.
Every package you get will be inspected.
For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches.
You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed.
Hide your stash. People steal
Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies
Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it.
You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you.
Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus
You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. Make the most of it

I can't say enough positive things about this recovery program. I arrived at one of the lowest points in my life—completely defeated by my circumstances and the choices I had made. From day one, the staff were incredibly supportive, compassionate, and motivating.
There were at least five times when I wanted to walk out the door, but each time a different counselor met me with understanding, encouragement, and genuine care. They made me feel like I could overcome even the hardest days if I fully committed to the program.
The medical team was outstanding as well. Whenever I felt that a medication wasn't working for me, they listened and adjusted my treatment promptly. Their responsiveness made a huge difference in my recovery experience.
What stood out most was the compassion and empathy shown by every staff member. They truly make you feel like they're in your corner and invested in your success. The educational classes were informative and reassuring, helping me realize that I wasn't alone in my struggles.
The relationships I built with other patients were equally meaningful. The support, encouragement, and camaraderie helped strengthen my determination to stay on the path to recovery. The program also offers frequent outings, which made it feel less like a detox facility and more like a place focused on healing, personal growth, and rebuilding your life.
And the food—absolutely amazing. It felt like every meal was prepared by a chef from a top restaurant. Combined with the gorgeous views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, the environment provided a sense of peace and hope that was invaluable during recovery.
The rooms are spacious, private, and include personal bathrooms. Honestly, it felt more like staying at a high-end hotel than a treatment facility.
I left with a renewed sense of confidence and hope for the future. Recovery is never easy, but this team supports you every step of the way, never letting you lose sight of your potential. They provide the tools, guidance, and encouragement needed to build a better life.
If you're struggling with addiction, you owe it to yourself to seek the best care possible. In my experience, Marina Harbor Detox is that place!!!

But since it’s subject to open again, please double check their website to ensure that they’re indeed open. It’s out in San Mateo, California. Anyway, this 22-bed detox facility treats men, women, | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I guess I forgot to leave a comment. I want to thank the staff at Palm for putting my recovery above everything. I had an insurance issue that I could see caused a lot of problems for the staff by the amount of time I spent with Jacky and the case manager in the office. No one complained or tried to kick me out. Jeff and Jacky went the extra mile to make sure I was able to stay and receive treatment. Jose had powerful groups! Heather thanks for the outdoor walks. Jackie thanks for allowing me to talk about my defects and deepening my spirituality ( so many people forget it’s a big part of who a person is) and helping me with the plan for when I left. Jeff the boss man and the med room staff I can’t thank you all enough!! Hands down the best service I’ve received. Thank you Palm.

So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start.
Pros to going to Palm Ave:
-The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic.
-It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people.
-Food was very clean, healthy, and always available.
-Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it.
-There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led.
-They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep.
Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories.
Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours.
Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it.

Place is amazing!..Staff is amazing and they take the time to make sure that your doing okay. Not just a cursory.." Good Morning" or " Good Night" They actually take an interest in why your there and what they can do to make your stay as successful as possible.
Classes are set up and offered throughout the day to ensure that you have some tools when you leave. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county.
They have a business model that is golden and should be mirrored by similiar businesses.

This place saved my life. The first time I came here, I was 12 years old. I was very scared but the staff were really nice and supportive. The program is really helpful, I'd recommend this place to any child who is struggling with mental health. They also have a program to treat ED's. I've been to the 3 East B adolscent psych unit multiple times, so I'm very familiar with everyone. The therapist Emilio, Megan, and Susanna were so nice to me, and a nurse named Chris. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice. Not much drama happens in this hospital. Thanks to this hospital, I am now happy in life, learning to cope with stressful situations. Thank you, Alta Bates.

Oakland, CA | The MPI Chemical Dependency Treatment Services addiction facility was founded in 1979 and provides chemical dependency services to adults with drug and alcohol abuse disorders. This facility is located in Oakland, California. It’s the oldest hospital based treatment program in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their center partners with many of the m | Treatments Programs Payment Options | MPI is an excellent place for anyone seeking a safe, medically assisted detox from drugs or alcohol. The nurses were compassionate and attentive, the doctors were knowledgeable and supportive, and the facility was clean and well maintained.
There is a structured daily schedule, but if you’re not feeling well, you’re encouraged to rest and focus on your recovery. The facility also has a phone and laptop policy, but if you have a legitimate need to use your devices, the staff is willing to work with you to find a reasonable solution.
Visitation is held on Sundays, but loved ones can bring approved items for patients any day of the week, which is a thoughtful way to stay connected and supported during treatment.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at MPI and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a professional, compassionate, and supportive environment to begin their recovery journey.

I was there a little more than 4 years ago. I was withdrawing from a super heavy Xanax addiction. The withdrawal was the scariest thing that I've ever been through but they used medically assisted treatment to taper me off. I went through hell and back but they almost got me through it. Luckily they knew how to treat me. They sent me to the mental health department when things got really bad and then I came back for the rest of my treatment. The groups and counselors are great and very informative and educational. The nurses on the other hand were horrible and didnt understand what was happening with me during withdrawal. I told them I was hallucinating and scared and didn't know where I was in the middle of the night but they just told me to go back to my room. I begged for help and was scared to death but they wouldn't help me. They ended up transporting me to mental health when I was blacked out and out of control. The food was really good and I loved the weekend special dinners the clients would order.

This place completely changed my life. They run a top notch program and the highly attentive staff see to all your needs with no problems. Doctor Kayman is extremely knowledgeable about the brain and the counseling staff is amazing as well, always offering a listening ear and great advice to help any problems that may arise while in treatment. I would like to personally thank counselors Burt, Sharon and Angus for helping me so much while I was there and needed support. Thank you MPI for everything you do!
