PHP was a nice step down from all the restrictions. Being able to spend some outside time at meetings or going out for some good food was very helpful to showing that I really can have fun sober. Mario was amazing during my first month in the house. As a recovery coach he helped me get on track with my recovery and think of goals that I would like to accomplish in my sobriety. My husband has been doing sober coaching with Mario since he completed rehab at Mountainside. Mario keeps him accountable while fostering a strong relationship built on a foundation of trust. Mario keeps it real with both my husband and me with his humor and humility. He checks in with me weekly and reminds me his phone is always on for me. He approaches the difficult road of recovery with dignity for the client, compassion for the family, and respect for the process. He shares his own personal stories and experiences. Mario is deeply invested and loves what he does. I could not have gotten through these last few months without him, and my husband continues to make growth in this partnership. When my husband was having a hard time Mario drove across the state to meet with him in person. He is the definition of above and beyond with his dedication and kindness. Professional, personal, tailor-made individualistic programming. Very much a family atmosphere. Once you settle in, you will never want to leave. If I could live at Eden Hill, I would do it in a heartbeat. The term “staff” doesn’t adequately do justice to the Team of people who run and work at , Eden Hill in all capacities.They are personable, accommodating in anyway possible and loving. It is not possible to leave Eden Hill without feeling like your family has gained a few unofficial members. The accommodations are fabulous and newly renovated. Therapeutic communal living helped me to increase individual personal responsibility while at the same time learning to live with and compromise (perhaps for the first time) With my housemates. The clients form a bond that is therapeutic and supportive. We learn to hold each other accountable for their actions in recovery and other communal living issues in a kind and, if necessary, mediated way. Some of the tools I left with we’re effective communication, the development and use of boundaries, healthy confrontation (or “care-frontation”) and how to be a part of the solution instead of the problem. Most importantly I learned humility. I learned the world does not revolve around me and that to be successful in recovery and life, I need a support network which required working on my relationship skills. My circumstances did not allow me to participate in the family recovery events; however, I witnessed my peers and their families participate with what appeared to be excellent results. The Town-of Canaan is small, safe, charming, and has a large recovery network suitable for all ages. I have known many people that have gone through Mountainside treatment center in Canaan and then followed treatment at the extended care facility of Eden Hill Recovery Retreat in Canaan that have decided to remain in the area due to the Active and varied recovery community. Additionally, many of these individuals are still clean and sober and moving on with their lives. I myself am considering relocating to the Canaan area at some point in the near future for the above stated reasons. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Eden Hill is like a second home to me which I will forever remember as a very necessary, nurturing, and healing time. I have met some of the most wonderful, loving women in situations much the same as my own that I will forever treasure as sisters and friends On a journey you couldn’t possibly understand unless you’ve been on it too. Ms. Harrington was the counselor there it was a cool little spot had it's own school on campus I played on the basketball team and on the soccer team. From the RNs, LPNs, Aids, PT/OT, Kitchen crew, Cleaners, Social Workers, Maintenance, Laundry and I'm sure I'm missing some others but what a good team. All shifts work pretty darn well together. I like that they hear your concerns and if they don't have the answer, they will try and find it. Austen Riggs changed my life. I was admitted in May of 2024, convinced I had nothing to live for and nobody who cared about me. I was suggested Riggs after being turned down from numerous hospitals and programs for having “too complex of a case.” Over the course of 8 months, I learned about myself and my impact on others in ways I had never before. My cohort of people who were admitted around the same time was very supportive, and we still keep in touch today, but I can definitely see how if the community isn’t a fit then Riggs won’t be a fit. Sure there was drama (some more serious than others), but you have to remember that you’re living in a large community of people with trauma and complicated mental health struggles. The only major downside is how expensive it is. I was extremely lucky that my insurance covered about 60% of my treatment, but I felt guilty the entire time I was there about how much my family was investing into me financially. The cost is widely talked about in group sessions and is commonly a major stressor for people, distracting from what brought them in in the first place. It’s now been almost a year since I left and my life is on a trajectory I never thought was possible. I am clean and sober, haven’t had a mental health crisis since leaving, and no longer fit a significant amount of diagnostic criteria for what I was diagnosed with. Making the commitment to treatment saved my life❤️ Leah G. 5 months ago Places of this kind are not easily quantifiable in 5 star ratings. But if I had to gove it a rating as simple as this, I give it 5. I was there for a year, and did out-patient for a couole of years after that. This place was a hard place to be because it was where Ibhad to confront myself -- but the tools they imparted to me and the care I received helped me save my life. I am indebted to them and believe im the work they do. Very much so. There are few open-setting hospitals around, and among mental hospitals Riggs is truly unique. It may not be for everyone, but I recommend it very very highly. I feel lucky to have been there. And I am certain that I would not be living a full, productive life now had it not been for them. My wife insisted that I go, and given the level of pain I was in, I was more than willing to listen. What started as a frightening experience quickly became one of the most positive healthcare experiences I could have ever imagined. From the moment I arrived at around 1:00 PM until the moment I walked out the door , every single person I encountered treated me with exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism. The emergency department moved quickly and efficiently, performing multiple tests and a CT scan with contrast. Before long, I had an answer: appendicitis, and surgery was needed immediately. Once I was brought to the surgical floor, I met Dr. Fitzgerald. She took the time to thoroughly explain my diagnosis, the surgical procedure, and every possible situation she might encounter during the operation. Her explanation was so detailed and reassuring that by the time she finished, I genuinely had no questions left to ask. I remember telling her that I had 110% confidence in her abilities—and I truly meant it. Dr. Fitzgerald and her entire surgical team were absolutely outstanding. Their professionalism, expertise, and calm demeanor turned what could have been a very stressful situation into one where I felt completely cared for and confident every step of the way. I also want to recognize my nurse, Sara, whose kindness, attentiveness, and genuine compassion made a tremendous difference during my stay. She went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and informed throughout the process. The entire experience was remarkable. I underwent testing, received a diagnosis, had surgery, and was on my way home to recover before I knew it. The efficiency, coordination, and quality of care were nothing short of incredible. To Sara, Dr. Fitzgerald, Ashley, Kate, Carli and every member of the team who cared for me—thank you!! Your dedication, skill, and compassion transformed a scary medical emergency into an experience that left me feeling truly grateful. I cannot recommend this hospital and its amazing staff highly enough. Outstanding care from beginning to end. Five stars all the way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Josh Schermerhorn 3 weeks ago I went there for outpatient surgery with Dr. Marici. The nurses were great and Dr. Marici and his staff did a wonderful job. I got to hospital at 8 and surgery didn’t begin until 12:45pm so prepare for long wait, at least with him. Go to 3RD floor. The woman who called day before said 1st and we were walking all over the place and no clear signs. Staff and visitors helpful in helping locate. Room warm for me, cold for others. I’ve seen scarves thicker than blanket so bring own. They give you a locker. Bring own bag if you want to store clothes. Bathroom with toilet is very tiny, not suitable for large person. Sink is in room. My husband left shortly while I was waiting in the room. There is a monitor with your own assigned number that states your in surgery. DON’T pay attention to it. I WAS NOT in surgery and finally called him to ask where he was. If you leave, go right to room. Hospital is old and cramped but suitable. The hospital could have some small improvements as stated above, but went well. Nurses, staff all professional and very nice. Gwen Eichin 1 month ago I had wrist surgery on April 14th.
