The therapist my daughter saw at the Portage location was wonderful. Billing was always an issue - they would say we owed money, so we would pay it, then they could contact us and process a refund because we "overpaid". Otherwise, we were very pleased. However I have been trying to reach them for a week now. Website says they are available 24/7 - however I have called EVERY number on their website repeatedly, as well as the number the "owner" provided in these comments, and there is never an answer or option to leave a message. I also submitted an appointment request form through their website and have not received a response. Not sure what is going on here. UPDATE: apparently this is a cell phone issue - NOT pine rest. Despite using my phone daily and having no issues making calls, for whatever reason, I had to put my cell phone on then off airplane mode and suddenly I was able to make calls to them. Updated my review to correct for this.

Over the years I’ve gotten therapy through here, Safe Families help and Foster Care services so i think I’m in a place to say Bethany is just a horrible agency all around. Even my Samaritas worker who used to be my therapist has said she wouldn’t recommend anyone to work there. They lose employees there left and right because they suck. All my therapists through there have left just without notice. Case aids in Foster Care leave their positions because it sucks. My Foster Care worker barely cared about our family (so I would suggest if you have a Foster Care case maybe getting it transferred to Arbor Circle which actually cares about reunifying families- Bethany just wants to promote adoption). Also, Safe Families is a joke. I’m not sure if Jamison is still the head of that department but RUN if he is. He will report you to CPS if you use their services more than 3 times. Oddly safe families mission is to avoid that but Jamison wants your kids removed. Get help through Tony at the Safe Families in Grand Rapids. He’s a very kind man. But please DO NOT get help through this agency in Holland unless you want your kids taken away forever because they will do everything in their power to ensure that happens. Luckily they’ve got nothing on me but it was still a headache working with them.

As a wife of someone that went to Skywood rehab. My husband said this place is a complete joke. He has succeeded on his own. He was only there for two weeks on his own terms and that was all he needed. But even from the start they wanted to give him volume to go through withdrawals. How can you put someone on more meds when they are trying to kick an addiction. There are people there hooking up there is a sever lack of activities they portray this great place that people can heal and stay busy that is absolutely not the case. There are no bonfires or golf etc. As far as counseling once a week. How do you expect people to heal and move forward only going to one-on-one counseling once a week.
Communication there is the worst and the lack of staff this place should not be open whatsoever. Going through detox and you feel like crap, and they want you to go to meetings all day long when you haven't slept all night. One person says you can go get meds and lay down for two hours. How can you lay down for two hours right after they give you something to sleep. My husband also said that the place was unsanitary and needs many updates. For as much money as we pay self-pay/insurance this place should be amazing and the best healing ever.
Our biggest complaint right now is that when my husband went in, he paid a large amount for the deductible and then when he left, they asked him to pay more to meet the co-insurance, so he did. A month or two goes by we get our explanation of benefits from our insurance, and we overpaid by almost $700 we have reach out to Skywood multiple times and we talked to a lady named Chris and she asked us to send her proof that he paid because she had no proof that he paid. We then months later after we requested our money back Chris is still trying to reach out to us to pay a bill that is not accurate and we told her and she knows they owe us money. And when we remind her that we are still waiting on our reimbursement she ended up hanging up on my husband.
At this point this should not be an approved rehab facility. With lack of staff poor conditions, and no place to heal. My husband said that the only thing this place is concerned with is getting paid by the insurance. They want you to stay 45 days no matter what so they can get paid, they push meds so they can get paid. They are not truly concerned with your healing. Also, while my husband was there one of the counselors got kicked out because she was a recovering alcoholic and was caught with alcohol in her office. That is also something that should not be allowed. There should be no chance of alcohol or drugs coming back on the premises. All we want from this right now is our MONEY back that we overpaid back in August, and others to know how awful this place is do not send your loved ones here it is not worth it.

As of this writing I have a years experience with this location and program so will try and clarify things a bit. An important thing to understand is that each house is independent and ran by the current residents under guidelines set forth by its area chapter which in turn is governed by the state chapter then national program. Each house is run democratically by its residents with a persons power being in their vote. I feel most of the negative reviews I've heard are from those who relapsed or who routinely or egregiously violated rules and were kicked out. The only violations that allow for immediate expulsion are relapse, violence, or those of a potentially criminal nature. This program is not a good fit for everyone as it is more of a peer supported independent living type situation. It is not as rigidly governed as many halfway houses and is better suited for those comfortable in recovery and capable of living independently but still desiring some structure and guidance. As for Emyla specifically I would say it is a great location. It is near downtown with Leeper Park and the river nearly next door. The residents tend to be easy going and get along well. The house is big with 3 full baths, 3 kitchens, and 2 living rooms. It is worth looking into the place to see if it is for you but remember it is not for everyone.

Such a transformative experience! Naturally, the reviews you read for addiction treatment centers are going to skew negative but don't let that deter you if you believe you need help. Not only did I have an amazing experience with staff, I've built a strong foundation of community among my peers who were also seeking treatment. While encouraged by their use of an evidenced-based model, the incorporation of the 12-steps had me skeptical at first but now I'm fully committed. If you feel the 12 steps aren't for you, they also provide information about alternatives such as SMART Recovery and Recovery Dharma. My one complaint would be that I had chosen to participate in the in-person IOP during intake, but was somehow placed into the virtual IOP. Once it was recognized it was a quick fix and it didn't impact my start date or anything like that.
