I am fully aware that each veteran's situation is unique despite having the commonality of service and sacrifice to infinitely varying degrees. Challenges and struggles may be shared, but the first, second, and third order effects of said challenges and struggles will always be unique to the individual and their circle of family and friends. So, with that said, I am stating that my experience is my own. And my experience at this clinic, as well as with the community care resources outside of the clinic, have been nothing but positive and fruitful. Have there been hiccups and issues that needed communication and action taken to remedy? Of course. But the quality of care that I have received from the team here, the Wilmington team, and the community care team has been exemplary and without criticism. I am grateful to far too many people to list here, but I can say without hesitation that each and every team member here has treated me with respect, empathy, and concern for my well being. Again, I will reiterate that each veteran's situation is unique. I am a Group 1, 100% disabled veteran with 29 years of service in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Soldier. I enjoy the benefits of this priority group. Every veteran's service is beyond a written value, but veterans that fall into other priority groups may have to deal with longer wait times for appointments, have to pay co-pays, etc. This is the nature of the system, unfortunately. But priority levels and the according actions are necessary for this system to work. These good people have historically been underfunded and overworked. They do the best that they can for all of us. As a recommendation for my fellow veterans, I implore you to file claims for your likely worsening service-connected conditions and ailments. Stay the course and hold the line. If you are denied in the process, reapply. Work with a VSO that lights a fire on your behalf. Take advantage of all available resources provided by the VA. I contacted Associates for Life Enhancement about some issues I was having. I had the pleasure of speaking with Karen Kerr. During our conversation it was determined that Karen’s office was too far for me to travel to. She went out of her way to help me find another counselor in my area that I could speak with. She cared enough to help me. You don’t find or hear of many people going out of their way to help you today. I really have to commend Ms. Kerr for her kindness and compassion. I sure wish I was able to see her, from the moment I spoke with her I really felt a connection.

I literally love this place! I have received so much support from different counselors there. They really do care about us and what's going on. They work their hardest to make sure we feel safe enough to open up and really do some work. My name is Jessica and I will say Anthony(a counselor there) truly got through to me. Going to preface this by saying I went here for under 2wksk over a decade ago and left…but stayed sober and I’ve been clean for 10 years but not giving this place any credit for that because I was much better off with freedom at an outpatient program.
You will have more freedom in jail than here. This place is too restrictive and has culty vibes. There are better programs you can go to. Most addicts are also smokers so my opinion personally is going to a place like this that doesn’t allow smoking, is counter productive to someone who’s an addict, as quitting everything at once is overwhelming. at first I thought they weren’t doing it to be overly controlling and maybe simply for some “safety reason” like lack of fire insurance or something, but that has nothing to do with it. Because even when you get permission to leave the property to go somewhere like a visiting pass you can’t smoke. They will actually DRUG test you for nicotine when you come back and count it as a failed drug test and if you’re on any type of probation they will report it to them as a failed drug test with zero context all because you smoked a cigarette. Staff also doesn’t allow you to have your legal prescribed medications, basically takes away any little glimmer of joy you have to look forward to. Strong toxic culture here of clients who are pitted against each other by staff and encouraged to gossip about each other to the staff. You’ll be in your room sharing your feelings to a roommate about something and all of a sudden in your next “check in” session your counselor assigned to you will somehow know what you said and bring it up. So I think they have hidden cameras in the bedrooms or something. Overall not a great place.
in conclusion…Very much handmaids tale vibes, very centered on Christian values. And not very inclusive mindset. Just very unsettling. Glad I left and had more success outside of this place with an IOP.

Amazing staff who make sure you’re are well taken care of and comfortable. The chef made incredible food for every meal and stocked the fridge every day with fresh food that we could eat at anytime as well. They also kept the freezer stocked with ice cream and water ice. The facility is cozy and kept very clean. There is a smart tv in every room as well as in the lounge/common area which is set up like a living room. I found the groups helpful. There are 3 hour long groups you can attend but don’t have to and either an AA or NA speakers that comes every night for an hour long meeting. I liked that Sunrise is a smaller facility, having room for about 20 patients. This made it easier to open up and share. You are able to go outside for fresh air or to smoke anytime except during group time. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Sunrise Detox. Thank you to all the staff! You all are amazing!!

I went to sunrise 6/7 for the first time ever and I don’t regret a single thing about. Never been to detox before but the people who work there actually care about you and want you to get better. It only works if you are ready though. The food was amazing everyday, the counselors are there to help you, and the doctors/nurses want what’s best for you. I will 100% be going back there one day to speak to the patients to show them that recovery is possible. They also help you with finding resources after being discharged. I was recommended tk a doctor for the sublocade shot and had it done within two weeks of leaving sunrise. It’s a smaller operation but I found it to be better.

i usually hate calling anywhere to make appointments because whoever answers the phone sounds like they just want to hurry up and rush to do whatever they need to do or just don’t have very pleasant attitudes. Seeds of hope prayed for me and helped me when I was a homeless addict. They had a Hope Station at the VOA in Camden where they feed and gave clothing to the homeless on Saturday mornings. The Hope Station is s where the seeds were planted in me and I grew into having a beautiful relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That was over 6 years ago and I have been clean and sober since, I have a nice home, a decent job and I am attending school ,active at my church and I am involved in the recovery community. I've had great success with them. My suboxone appointments are once a month. Therapy once every two weeks. Random drug tests and support when I need it. I've been on suboxone for four years and have been clean ever since! Plus, they take Medicare so I don't have to pay anything. Great place.

Although I've had a mixed experience between the two different people, Katie definitely needs more experience, Ian ... well ..man what can I even say. I've sure learned a lot and ..hey.... 😉 ..he did get me to express my need even though when I did he ignored me...but... nobody's perfect...especially not me. Acenda IH is an incredible community focused program. They helped me naglvigate the challanges of single parenthood while being dissabled and homeless. Because of them I could have a safe place to stabilize my mental health whole gathering community resources and leaning into the knowledge of their professionals and advocates to help me get through the myriad of things that pop up when youre trying to settle down. I am so grateful these guys exist. And I am looking forward to using the skills I gained from working with them to continue making my life healthy and whole.

The VA gets a bad rap but the people make it good. The system is tough to work with but like I said all the workers, from janitors to Doctors and nurses make it bearable.

This program has a novel approach to addiction therapy. As with most rehabs, the lower you get on the HR food chain, the better the people are. This excludes Ashley, the Nurse there, who is a complete rockstar.
Now with the bad; I left before my 30 days was up because I got what I needed from them and my insurance wasn’t going to cover more time. Despite my approaching it respectfully with them, as soon as it became clear that I was leaving, the executives, primarily Sue Dennis, the intake coordinator, spoke to me with vitriol, disrespect and a complete and total lack of self awareness. After SHE lied to me, telling me all I needed was a BCBS plan to get in, I purchased said plan at the tune of $750/month. Can you guess what happened next? I was denied care, despite being fully transparent about my needs before I bought the insurance. Sue is a bulldog, but is either willfully negligent or completely incompetent; neither bodes well for the future of this program

I would like to thank all the wonderful people I met at Soba.. from the nurses "Julie" and all the techs staff. They are an amazing group of people.. this place really knows how to do it. It's so clean and the food is something that I can't explain how good it was. I mean we had lamb chops for lunch full salad bar with a gourmet chef. I banged head alittle with clinical staff only to realize they were trying to help me. To which I am truly sorry about. I spent 4 weeks there and even the other patience became like family was truly a wonderful group that made all the difference. I'm not going to say it was all fun but through bouts of depression and PTSD! Things can really get dark... And I really want to thank Mike C for helping through my darkest period.. He sat with me and talked to me about what I need to do and how to get through what I was dealing with and I never had someone to help me like that before. I was all alone. "Thanks Mike "I can't really get into it here but he gave me advice that I will carry always. I'm so glad that I went to soba. It was exactly what I needed to get my life back in order and I can't thank them enough. If you or a loved one need help with this Disease. I promise you that you will not regret trusting this professional group of people.its a small group of people I think I had 7 other patients besides myself. So the level of care is perfect.im clean and im staying clean and my goal is to help people. Even its just one person thats all it will take to satisfy me. I highly recommend this facility to any firefighter struggling with mental health and/or substance use problems. I can’t say enough positive things about this place so I’ll just say this: it changed my life, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
