Kitty Moriarty 1 year ago I went to turning point in 2017 and I knew nothing about how to live a "normal" life. I had no idea how to do anything clean. Turning point taught me so much I still use today. The staff was amazing and helped me through early recovery and learning life skills I didn't know. I was so broken when I got to turning point but they uplifted me when I didn't want to continue. I'm still clean today and I have no doubt that turning point has a lot to do with that. I would recommend turning point to anyone Bobbi Jo Cheverine 5 years ago I attended the Woman with children program at turning point in 2015, I have since been able to stay clean coming up on 6 years and have since had my child full time. This place changed my life for the better. They slowly integrated me back into the community, teaching me life skills and how to be a woman! The rules may be a little strict, but if you truly want to better yourself, these rules are in place for that. Behavior modification, learning how to cook and clean, and counseling for my addiction. Especially since I've had such a good experience. I think this is 100% due to my psychiatrist. He seems to be the only doctor who actually reads and responds to messages as soon as he's able. So much so that I've had to label some messages as not important or I'll say "this can wait until your not busy" and he will still respond quickly. I'm not saying all the doctors need to multi-task like mine does. What I'm saying is when I see my doctor he really shows how much he cares about his profession and his patients. He puts a ton of effort into ensuring his patients get the care they need. The other doctors are like doctors you see in the hospital. It takes forever to get any response from them and when you finally get to see them, your in and out so quick that you can hardly remember what, if anything, you discussed. Athena is a social worker at Southwood, and she is one of the sole reasons for my sanity and my son’s mental health during his 8 day stay in the older boys teen unit. She was in contact consistently, and I was always kept up to date through her. She helped us navigate making my son as comfortable as possible. My son’s psychiatrist at the facility was not very helpful and not very communicative. He did not have a good rapport with my son, either. Athena had an amazing rapport with my son! She helped communication between me, my son, and the psychiatrist. Above all, she had my son’s back and his best interests in mind, and she pushed until what my son needed (and I agreed with) was accomplished. If it wasn’t for Athena, my son’s stay would’ve been so much worse and possibly not helpful at all. I cannot recommend Athena enough. She was a total God send for us!!! Aerial (I don’t know if I spelled it right). The patients were really the only problem. I heard about the violence on girls b, thankfully there wasn’t a fight on my unit while I was there. The only problem I had with this place was the communication to my parents and the doctor I had. I didn’t really care about the communication because it wasn’t something I was involved with. I think it was dr. Keerar or something that talked to me every single day about how I was feeling and if the medication was working but he was TERRIBLE. He lied about my discharge date and lied to me about why I was there. Other than that I had a great experience. I managed to make friends and learn healthy coping skills. The only time patients had to be restrained was when they were violent or causing problems with others patients. Don’t recommend though. Aubrey 3 months ago Overall it was a very nice place. Kitty Moriarty 1 year ago I went to turning point in 2017 and I knew nothing about how to live a "normal" life. I had no idea how to do anything clean. Turning point taught me so much I still use today. The staff was amazing and helped me through early recovery and learning life skills I didn't know. I was so broken when I got to turning point but they uplifted me when I didn't want to continue. I'm still clean today and I have no doubt that turning point has a lot to do with that. This place changed my life for the better. They slowly integrated me back into the community, teaching me life skills and how to be a woman! Cassandra, the therapist whom runs group is just amazing at what she does! She genuinely cares, and goes above and beyond to help each individual reach their goals and full potential! She has helped me personally through a lot of hard times! The atmosphere is light and positive. However for some the group classes could possibly be a bit overwhelming at first. I am required to do 3hr groups 3 times a week. It just takes a little bit of motivation and determination! Everyone is different and need different things to successfully recover from addiction.
