During That Time MCC was located on Richmond Avenue in a beautiful but smaller building than they’re in now. My first Therapist was Lee Willis a phenomenal therapist for anyone living with gender dysphoria. Since then I’ve had sporadic experiences at MCC from 1995 till 2008. However, when I move back to Houston in 2008 I started going To MCC consistently especially after 2009. I’ve had some wonderful case managers and therapist from Mandy Lloyd in 2009 till Daniel Perez now. I can honestly say there’re people who work at MCC who authentically care about the LGBTQ+ community of Houston very much, and those same people are willing to provide exceptional services for anyone regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, religion, or race to me that’s commendable. I lost my Therapist/ Friend Mike Ator in November Of last year 11-04-24 was the day I was told he had passed away, and that news shook me to my core it was devastating heartbreaking news. I miss him greatly and that’s the kind of people that work at MCC phenomenal people who truly care and reaffirm to their clients they matter. Everything about this place has been above and beyond! I'm a pretty demanding human being and a bit hard to deal with and with class and grace every single staff member has been wonderful, professional, and done an outstanding job, to make sure my needs and my road to recovery has been meet to the best of their abilities! At the beginning of 2019 i could have never imagined how the year would end. Our daughter had been struggling with addiction since college. Her therapist recommended BARC and when she came out of the recovery center, she was not even close to the person she went in as. She embraced the program and did the work to better herself and her life. Fast forward to 2026, she is still sober and is living a full life now with a supportive husband and two beautiful daughters. She still puts in the work to stay sober but learned how to do this through BARC.

This place saved my life. The staff is amazing, the treatment is very in-depth. They don’t just hand you a book and let it ride. They teach you all about the book and really work with you to get that stuff inside of you that’s killing you out!!! I am forever grateful to house 4 and the staff that helped me heal! I couldn’t say enough great things about BARC. House 3 is where my entire life changed and changed for the better. I learned so much about myself, alcoholism / addiction and exactly how it affected me. When you understand “The Stickman” then it all starts making sense. The staff at BARC is amazing. They don’t just talk about alcoholism / addiction that they’ve learned from a book. Everyone there has been there before and knows first hand what they are talking about and teaching. There is not a place on earth I could recommend more highly than BARC for recovery. BARC was where my rebirth happened and if you’re looking for a place to make that change it can be the place of your rebirth as well. 12/16/2025 is my sobriety birthday If you’re rally lucky, when you’re there one of your brothers in the house will know how and like to cook like me. lol 😂

This is my favorite place on earth!! It's where I showed up with nothing and completely hopeless, to being over 2 years free from alcohol and drugs. I truly believe the magic happens when people who are hopeless and have given up, come to a place like BARC, and start working together and share each other's experiences!! A lot gets said about the VA system; and I, for one, have been pretty critical... mostly related to the "administration" and positions related. But, I want to say I had one of the most pleasant (if skin can surgery for 4 hours can be pleasant) experiences this morning at the Houston VAMC Dermatology Department. I had interface with more than 6 medical personnel for my procedures this morning. Got "called back" 30 minutes early, by name. I was attended by 2 surgeons, a supervising surgeon, a graduating MD, and two wound care nurses. They were ALL great, professional, and personable and funny... enjoyed their time... and as pain free as I've ever been. It was very obvious to me this morning that this team was very dedicated to veteran care, by choice, and very skillful in their chosen profession. I can't brag on these guys enough!! I’ve Known Of Montrose Counseling/Community Center since Summer of 1995. During That Time MCC was located on Richmond Avenue in a beautiful but smaller building than they’re in now. My first Therapist was Lee Willis a phenomenal therapist for anyone living with gender dysphoria. Since then I’ve had sporadic experiences at MCC from 1995 till 2008. However, when I move back to Houston in 2008 I started going To MCC consistently especially after 2009. I’ve had some wonderful case managers and therapist from Mandy Lloyd in 2009 till Daniel Perez now. I can honestly say there’re people who work at MCC who authentically care about the LGBTQ+ community of Houston very much, and those same people are willing to provide exceptional services for anyone regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, religion, or race to me that’s commendable. I lost my Therapist/ Friend Mike Ator in November Of last year 11-04-24 was the day I was told he had passed away, and that news shook me to my core it was devastating heartbreaking news. I miss him greatly and that’s the kind of people that work at MCC phenomenal people who truly care and reaffirm to their clients they matter. In closing, I wholeheartedly recommend MCC to anyone who seeking services like Mental Wellness, Community groups to network, groups that meet to discuss life’s challenges, and helping people who are apart of the LGBTQ+ community by reaffirming the fact YOU MATTER 🤗 I Sincerely And Unequivocally give MCC Five Stars For being a lighthouse In Dark Times Thank You ☺️ GOD Bless 🙏🏾 !!!!!!
