Matthias Academy is the absolute best! We would be lost without it. Our son has severe, global developmental disabilities, and multiple complex medical needs. Even if we had wanted for him to attend another day program, it would not be possible because no other program can deal with his many needs. The Matthias community is fantastic. The staff are all caring, loving and extremely capable. They work hard every day to give my son and all of the other students the best quality of life possible.

This place changed my life.. I’ve been in many treatment centers before in the last few years, but the community and structure here is unlike anywhere else - the staff and recovering addicts that come in and out of here, the building and activities that we get to participate in, are all amazing and beautiful.
I will never be the same as I was before coming here
I have struggled to be socially accepted my entire life, and here I have gained more love and mutual support than I could ever imagine or ask for
Thank you NIRC for bringing me back to every single thing I have now that was lost before

I am so grateful for Nicasa and the incredible support I received from their team. With the guidance of my caseworker, Ms. Darlene, I was able to make real progress in my life. She not only encouraged me to continue my education, but also helped me get my driver’s license and supported me through the process of having my background expunged. Because of her kindness, professionalism, and dedication, I have been able to put my life back together in ways I never thought possible.
I also want to recognize her supervisor, Ms. Sindey, whose support and understanding made a huge difference. Both of them carry a genuine heart for the community and give their time, energy, and compassion to help families across Lake County.
What makes Nicasa so special is that they are not just another organization—they truly care. They spend countless hours serving people and making a positive impact. I have referred many friends and family to them, and they too have been blessed by the hard work and dedication of Ms. Darlene, Ms. Sindey, and the Nicasa team.
Thank you, Nicasa, for helping me rebuild my life and for all you continue to do for our community.

Mather's Recovery has been the best place I have been to concerning my OUD and other mental health diagnoses. I am a recovering IV heroin addict for 10 years. My sobriety began 8/5/2021. I was at several MAT clinics to be prescribed methadone that I ended up abusing alongside heroin to supplement my habit for those 10 years. I had a very rough decade as I am sure many of us have while using. I overdosed more times than I could count and was in and out of jail for drugs and theft. I finally got sick and tired of using especially when fentanyl hit the streets along with unknown substances being passed off as heroin. I began detoxing for 6 months to get off of methadone and switch to suboxone which I did albeit I went into PAWS for using fentanyl before my first strip. This was before Mather's at my PCP's office more than 50 miles away. My PCP was extremely cold, impatient and quick to invalidate my feelings and experiences. That's when my wife found Mather's Recovery in Fox Lake. From the moment I walked in I had felt seen. The front desk women are so incredibly kind! It also doesn't look like your typical "clinic " which feels really good. I don't have to worry about hearing people talk about using still or offering me their take homes/drugs. Lorin was assigned to me and she is hands down the most down to earth, genuine person I have ever met during this journey. She makes me feel seen, validated and treats me like an actual human being. I switched from Suboxone to Brixadi and it was the best thing I have done for my sobriety so far. The nurses are so funny and I always leave feeling like I just visited caring friends. Lorin also listened to my struggles with mental health and did not hesitate prescribing me medication that other doctors did not trust me with even though I was sober and those meds were so necessary for my continued stability. I did not have to feel like I had to keep my struggles a secret out of fear of looking like a drug seeker. I have also been struggling with my severe unmanaged ADHD that was proving to be a huge obstacle in my life. Lorin heard my story and changed my life. I have been able to manage my symptoms and get a grip on life which once proved to once be an impossible task. It changed the way my employers and coworkers treat me. Most importantly it saved my 15 year relationship with my wife. I was on the brink of a separation with her. Now she and I have been more understanding of each other and slowly growing closer again. This is my testimony of how Mather's Recovery helped me regain control of my life. I couldn't be more thankful for everyone there. I hope someone reads this and decides to give this wonderful place a chance.

But I did the process. Again I'm went thru some shit as a child as well. But I trusted Deb with her. I did the process. My daughter at the moment has 3 jobs just bought her first car. 2024 model. And is doing amazing. I'm crying as I type this. Thank so much Deb. Deb went above and beyond for her. Beyond anything I ever expected. She is someone who takes her job seriously. I called she always answered. Always. She never hesitated. I owe you more then this post Deb. I understand where all you are coming from. Trust me, I do. I had my doubts. Waukegan, IL | The Lake County Behavioral Health Mental Health Group Home is a treatment facility that helps support adults who have chronic mental health struggles that negatively impact their ability to lead healthy and productive lives. This center is located in Waukegan, Illinois, and operates under Lake County Behavioral Health. Treatment here costs no more | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I am 62 years old and not accustomed to posting reviews but I feel it is important to post my personal experience with the Group Home. I lived at the Group Home beginning June 11, 2019 and stayed for approximately 3 months. I had been diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder at Crisis Care Prevention (part of the Lake County Health Department) and was homeless at the time. Given my age, I had lived most of my life with an undiagnosed mental illness and was grateful that there was finally a name, and more importantly, treatment for what was “wrong with Vicki”. At the Group Home I learned countless skills, even very simple skills such as attaining and maintaining structure in my day to day life. I had a bedtime and learned that it was important to “wind down” before going to sleep and I awoke at approximately the same time every morning. Gone are the days of staying up (and sel-medicating) all night long. I began my days rested and willing to learn and grow. Our counselor’s lead groups that are designed to guide you to be active in, and responsible for, your own recovery They also also presented and endless supply of coping skills/tools to help me manage my mental illness. Furthermore, these skills are presented in such a way that I finally understood the importance and concepts of what coping skills actually are and how much they can help me. I had responsibilities such as chores within the Group Home, I had peers, people similar to me, and found that this was a place that I fit in. I learned patience and acceptance and I learned, at the age of 59, how to be a valued member of my community, no matter what community I am living in. I was also introduced to the New Hope Recovery Center in Zion and Waukegan (or “drop in center”) where I continue to work my program of recovery and continue to be active within this community to this day. Nearly 3 years ago my life almost ended. I had hit the worst “bottom” in my life and had no hope for anything good. Getting a diagnosis, taking my medication, being teachable, living and learning in the group home, and going to the drop in center have all been instrumental as far as me being equipped with the necessary skills and tools I use every day to live my best life. In these past 3 years, I have been living a full life, a life filled with joy, hope and the possibility of a bright future. I recommend the Group Home for anyone in need and cannot say enough “good” about my experience there and how it changed my life in so many positive ways.
