I entered The Gateway Foundation on October 31st 1996, my life had become unmanageable up until that point due to my addiction to cocaine. Thanks to Tyrone Anderson, who was an addiction counselor there at that time, and my mother, my life took a dramatic turn. Upon entering the facility my first 10 minutes after walking through the door they took a picture of me right there at the front door,I later learned why one year later. They admitted me right in the middle of a big Halloween party they were having that night ,my first thought was,.well alright.! this place is going to work out just fine.! walked right into a party right off the street. But oh boy, what a change of mind I had the next few days. I thought I had seen all the tricks in the book after completing basic training in the military,.USAF at that ! but my experiences at Gateway Foundation for one whole year,.OMG ! I hadn't seen nothing. I thought that I had done every kind of menial chores from mopping ,and cleaning ,scrubbing ,you name it ,while going through basic training in the military,.ha ! And my drill sergeant would shudder if he had to endure what we called at Gateway during that time a 'smoking". Basically it's when you mess up or violate a rule, you are commanded to go down in the basement, right below the meeting hall, where everybody can hear you get your feelings blowed out your mind, and heart by your fellow classmates in one of the loudest, meanest super aggressive verbal reprimands you have ever had in your life,.but it does get your attention though,.LOL. I'm saying all this to say that as addicts, we sometimes endure much worse treatment on the mean streets and environments of drug and alcohol addiction, but we are not discouraged by not so friendly people out there to still acquire our drugs of choice. Thanks to the environment of peer assisted treatment I received at Gateway, it helped me face the reality of life on the streets as an addict. I'm not saying that everything worked out perfect after leaving Gateway, we all struggle through the up's and downs of recovery, it's knowing how to get back on the right track, how to stay on the right track,, where and how to seek help when we fall that's important to continuing your life of sobriety. Thanks to the educational and therapeutical experiences I received from Gateway, I can proudly say that I am a happy, successful and drug free person to this very day.and I look nothing like that admission picture from 28 years ago.I encourage all who read this ,if you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse issues, consider getting the help you need from The Gateway Foundation, I'm thankful my family did it for me. Sincerely C.J.Robson Jr.

I've been taking my brother to the VA for the past 5 years and I am here to tell you that the Milwaukee VA is excellent! Every employee we have encountered there has been top notch! The valets, front desk, speech therapist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, eye clinic, neurologist and home health care team....ALL of these people gave my brother the best care he has ever received in his entire life! I cannot say enough good things about the home health care team! Inpatient is an absolute joke and needs some serious improvements and that's where the vast majority of these poor reviews come from. But as someone who spent a full 30 days in Herrington (the Addiction Recovery Unit) I can say without a doubt that they saved my life. Not all staff is perfect and the food is rarely good but other than that I'd highly recommend the Addiction and/or Mental Health unit(s). Just stay away from inpatient care.

I ve been to almost every CMS In Wisconsin due to moving/sober livings etc. started at another methadone clinic but ended up here.CMS is the only facility that I started to take my sobriety seriously and got sober. Never thought I d earn a take home. Couldn t even understand how people didn t use long enough to get one. Finally moved to the pewaukee facility and it clicked.Unfortunately not enough people were told about that clinic and it was so hidden off the road people thought it was either a bank or the church - so it closed and many of us had to go back to other facilities- such as here s(Ctc in Waukesha or CMS in west Allis)- wish they gave it more than a month and asked us patients to help spread the word to keep it open but it is what it is.I find it pretty sad that rather than closing the pewaukee facility and making those of us who got clean (from those I spoke to most of us) because we were no longer in Milwaukee county on top of support from our counselors, and our determinationI wish they would have made it mandatory - like many other facilities in Waukesha, that all the CMS patients at west Allis needed to transfer to pewaukee.I am still super happy especially because most of the staff moved over (I miss you nurse Sarah!! :( ) but it s hard to go back to west Allis, see dope men sitting in their cars, see who s strung out, etc. especially because even if we didn t have many of us at pewaukee, that was the one clinic that I saw the most amount of people with take home boxes. Every other patient I remember seeing and talking to looked so healthy, happy, and again had at least one take home. That means something was working there for us. (To me, it was having the smaller amount of patients, we were more directly worked with and could feel the care and support) I hope the people I spoke to that were worried about being back in west Allis make it through those worries and cravings.Sucks to have to drive 20-25 minutes one way again versus my 15 minute walk to pewaukee/ 4 minute drive but again, being phased and not having to come everyday makes it worth it.I just wanted to say, I love CMS period, but I wish they still had those security guards and the line is much longer than I remember it being. But the nurses and counselors and staff are all amazing I just feel like there are too many of us compared to the few amount of them, But can t win them all.I would always choose CMS over any other clinic, and I love my counselor - even those who aren t my counselors- (I m talking about you Yshonda and Jean!)Counselors like them push us to see the best in us.CMS pewaukee was a 100 out of 10CMS west Allis might not be that high but still 8/10 because of their amazing staff

This facility is the best I ve ever experienced. I did inpatient in 2018, IOP in Feb 2023, and now PHP in May 2023. I ve gone inpatient and done IOP at other locations. Judging from those and asking around, THIS facility is where the care is!! All largely positive experiences. Yes, there will always be some staff who are less than exemplary, but the overwhelming majority are phenomenally kind and understanding. Special shoutout to Cassy in PHP for being one of the most enlightened/inspired healthcare professionals I ve ever witnessed.I have a rare neuro disease that complicates my myriad of mental health conditions. For the for the first time since my diagnosis 6 years ago (and seeing over 15 doctors and therapists since), a seasoned doctor at this hospital humbled himself enough to research it to provide better care for me. I cannot express my full gratitude. The system is far from perfect. We can thank our government and insurance systems for that. Also, yes, the quality of any given program also depends on the luck of the draw of the other patients in it with you. But, the staff here are some of best you ll ever find anywhere - and I ve been around the block! Don t think twice. Come here.

I love this place! All the doctors and nurses are professional and helpful. It's very peaceful and everyone answers my questions and helps me get the best care for my children, myself, and my brother.

Went in to the urgent care side about a month ago for a broken toe. Receptionist was great when checking in, and it was super quiet. Felt like the only person there! Didn't wait more than two minutes to get called back. Nurse was nice and helpful, x-ray lady was nice too! The urgent care doctor seemed like he was in a rush, and didn't explain anything besides the fact that my toe was broken, which sucks. Overall great experience! I am one who avoids doctors offices as Functional medicine is far more helpful. But when it comes to a broken bone, urgent care it is.
