Luverne, AL | Beacon Children's Hospital is a behavioral healthcare and addiction treatment provider in Luverne, Alabama. Services also include valuable community resources, primary medical care, crisis stabilization, and community referrals. Beacon Children’s Hospital offers several addiction programs and services, including mental health assessment, diag | Treatments Programs Payment Options | The place was great and some people were kind, but certain staff really bummed me out. It felt more like I was getting help from other patients— who were supposed to be getting help from the staff too but weren’t— rather than the people who were actually supposed to be helping like the doctors, nurses, counselors, and techs. Sometimes I felt misunderstood and got treated like a toddler— which I never acted like one either— and the work felt like going back to kindergarten instead of getting actual help. Before I came there, I’ll admit I definitely had issues but I would never get angry, just sad. Yet, when I was there and after I left, anger was the biggest thing I felt. I hated it. And not just any anger, the kind of anger where you wanna scream and punch the wall, which I’ve never wanted to do or even thought of doing before. I felt like the family sessions didn’t help much and neither did the normal sessions. Don’t get me wrong, Ms Alyssa was nice, it just wasn’t helping me. Also, whenever I’d cry I felt like I was getting punished for doing so. Like, getting extra days was a possibility if you cried because you weren’t “using coping skills”— but i feel like that just made me want to hold in everything more because I didn’t want extra days and I hated the way staff made me feel when I cried— except for one nurse. She was really nice, I just forgot her name unfortunately. She’s a night nurse. Also, Mr Kyle was a very nice person to talk to, too. I really hated nap time and whenever we’d go to sleep at night because the lights in the hallway were on and I’d always have to listen to people in the hall talking. The bed situation was rough, beds were super uncomfortable. The only time I had a comfortable bed was my last night there and it was because I finally got moved onto the girls hall instead of being on the boys hall. The shampoo made my scalp dry out and my hair started thinning again, but I started waiting days between hair wash or would just use the conditioner, which kind of worked. I am picky eater so I can’t really comment on the food, but sometimes it would be good. Also, they said there weren’t many fights there but there was an actual physical fight in my group while I was there and multiple verbal fights. There was a lot of drama, too, which was terrible. Also, since I’ve gotten out, I’ve felt so much worse than before. The thoughts got worse, not better. Very bad. Plus, my medicine makes me not feel hungry so now I’ve stopped eating as much because I genuinely don’t feel hungry, which I hate. Also, we had to do everything with markers, and they’d dry out. Some techs would be like “oh, yall always make them dry out.” When that’s literally the only thing we can use AND it’s also because they’re cheap, so what do you expect? So, overall, the place means well, but it mostly just made me worse, so, uhm, yeah. :)

Dont come here if you have a disability. I called to get help for being falsely arrested and the receptionist became verbally hostile when she became aware of how cerebral palsy affects my speech. Theyre pretty clueless about ADA compliance, so much so that she couldnt take down my basic information without demeaning me. Facilitating trauma recovery starts with the facilitator respecting their patients. The staff is either unable or unwilling to respect their source of revenue. Dont come here if you are serious about your recovery. Every patient should be treated with dignity and respect. This clinic's staff members refuse to do aa such, and if your recovery involves you having a physical disability, the staff wont even treat you like a human being. Behavior like this from people that its their job to help you get better should never be tolerated. The Americans with Disabilities Act is still in force and Title II makes behavior like this federally illegal. Its a shame that our societi has gotten so hateful that people who should know better are willing to discriminate against people with disabilities simply out of spite. Shame on this company

thre reception staff members are exceptionally cruel. I tried to get heli for being falsely arrested, but when the staff member heard that i have a speech disabilty, she got very, almost narcisstic. It is very unfortunate that our society has abandonned values like compassion, patience, and professional decency. Please forgive her. It seems that the majority of abled bodied people are becoming hostile towards people with disabilities. Its a social trend, and the people who work there cant help but have their behavior shaped by the trends toward exclusion and hostility.

This is a amazing clinic. From the counselors to the doctor. They go out of their way to help my son. They visit him at school, they even have a team that will even visit your house and do activities with your child to help them learn coping skills, encouragement, help with self esteem issues, and they reward them aswell. I have seen my son go from having such anger every single day, to slowly coming out of his shell and communicating more, and being in better moods. They just give him someone to talk to other than me. Totally recommend this place. Wish there was something like this around when I was growing up.

I want people to understand something important about the program. When you complete it and leave, the medications they use as “crutches” (like SSRIs) are not designed to be permanent solutions — but they don’t really prepare you for what happens when you try to come off them.
In my case, when I finished the program, I was left with nothing but “good luck.” No tapering support, no real plan, no follow-up guidance. The withdrawal from SSRI medication was a horrific experience, and I had to seek out a separate doctor on my own afterward just to cope.
People should know going in: the program does provide structure and tools while you’re there, but the aftercare is lacking, especially around medication dependence. Be ready to advocate for yourself and find outside medical support when you leave.

First of all, if you or a loved one are struggling with addiction of any kind, please know there is hope. My heart goes out to you. Stay strong, stay connected, and never lose faith.
ARP has truly been an angel sent into my life. I feel so blessed that our paths crossed. When I thought my world was ending and I was losing all hope, they stepped in—for both me and my daughter. Now, about five years later, I can honestly say they saved my daughter’s life, and in many ways, they saved my family too.
It’s not magic—it takes hard work—but none of it would have been possible without the people who work there. I may forget some names, but Jeff in particular is a gift from God. He does his job with love, empathy, honesty, a sense of fun, and unwavering dedication.
I truly hope ARP can help you or your loved ones the way they helped us. I know every journey is different, but from the bottom of my heart, I wish you the very best.
Thank you, ARP and team, for everything you’ve done for my daughter. Watching her grow free from chains and thrive is priceless. Thank you!
