I hope you never need them ,but in the instance you do know you are in well trained loving hands. They saved our daughters life in an emergent situation and they all checked on her frequently after. 100% recommend this hospital!! However, for most of your stay here there is literally nothing to do except sleep in your room and watch tv in the group area :( And even all of the nurses agree that they don't really do anything to actually "help" most people, other than it being essentially a holding tank to help you detox. BUT, believe I did actually get some benefit during my stay. And, believe it or not, it was from having conversations with the other patients who were there during my stay. So, it COULD potentially help you in some capacity, but if you're looking for a place with an actual structured "program" or trained staff that will work with to help you figure out some solutions to whatever it is you may be struggling with, then I would find some place else. Hospital, but I was very pleased with the care my husband received. We came in after hours through the ER. I called and ask for directions how to get him inside, and where to park my car. He was in a transport wheel chair. The lady came out to my car, and called for someone to take my husband inside, while I parked a couple of blocks away. When I got to the ER he was already in a bay, with the IV in his arm. They conducted all the testing & cat scan. Every single person was kinder than the last. They even brought him a breakfast tray. They determined he would be admitted and shortly after that was placed in his room. They also asked if I wanted a bed in the room with him. He was there around 10 days.( I declined) And they absolutely were up to date, kind, and above and beyond anything I would have expected. The parking at the V.A. center and shuttling took a while to navigate, I do wish that had been explained to me sooner. CL W 4 days ago My first time experience at the Birmingham VA was very pleasant. Today's visit was as efficient as I have ever seen. The emergency check in, triage, being checked out by a PA, X-ray, nurse administering shots, very smooth. Everyone was so professional and courteous. Review of the images, discharge, and a reasonable wait at pharmacy, and then out the door I went. From the time of arrival until I departed was just under 2.5 hours. Well done Birmingham VA staff!
