Get ready folks, because this is going to be a novel. I have that many good things to say. This is my one and only time in a treatment center. South Shores Recovery is a blessed, incredible experience from start to finish. They coordinate everything from your arrival to your exit, checking on you every step of the way. From the moment you arrive you are met with care and compassion. They do everything they can to make you comfortable and feel safe as you detox and in your surroundings, that includes when you move to another house after you get settled from your week of detox. The staff from in-take to techs to case managers and therapist genuinely care and take care of you at every turn. It felt more like friends than staff and guest- a quick shout out to all those that I got the pleasure to meet. They are truly wonderful and so very appreciated. They keep you fed and full of snacks as you ride the road of recovery while also keeping you busy with group during the week and nightly meetings ranging from AA, CA (Cocaine Anonymous)to NA (Narcotics Anonymous). The weekly group sessions are different every day and include things like yoga, sound therapy, meditation, harp, trips to the gym and outdoor activities like surfing. Saturdays have a fun activity like kayaking, bowling or going to the movies. While Sundays involve a weekly trip to Target and the option of going to church in the morning. This keeps the entire experience beneficial to the mind, body and soul. This recovery center is not just for alcoholics but for any addict that makes the brave decision to get better and work toward the life they deserve. This was the best decision I have ever made, aside from marrying my husband. If you are apprehensive or concerned about taking this first step, please take my advice and consider... this can't hurt, it can only help and that is exactly what the amazing humans at South Shores Recovery strive and are meant to do.

I cannot begin to express the depth of my gratitude for this place and the incredible staff who make it what it is. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with open arms and immediately made to feel safe, comfortable, and understood. The staff are not only knowledgeable, but also genuinely compassionate—always willing to listen, laugh with you, and stand by your side during the times you need support the most. The groups are thoughtfully designed and different every single day, which keeps you fully engaged and allows you to explore so many meaningful areas of life. Discussions cover everything from addiction, mental health, and spirituality, to family, relationships, and childhood experiences. Each topic is approached with honesty, care, and encouragement, creating an environment where healing and growth feel possible. This is far more than just a program—it’s a community, a safe haven, and a place where you can rediscover yourself while being supported every step of the way. I could not recommend it highly enough to anyone seeking real change and genuine connection.

I recently spent 30 days at Alter Health in Dana Point, and I can’t speak highly enough of the experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt safe, supported, and surrounded by compassion. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful — serene, clean, and designed for healing. With a small group of only six clients, there was a strong sense of community, and I received plenty of personalized attention. The staff-to-client ratio is excellent, and I was able to have frequent one-on-one therapy sessions, along with support whenever I needed it. The therapists and staff truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, cared for, and progressing in our healing journeys. The food was also a highlight — healthy, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. Every detail of the program felt intentional and supportive. I can honestly say my time at Alter Health was life-altering. I left with tools, insights, and a renewed sense of peace. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to heal in a truly nurturing environment.

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired like I was, and you’re ready and willing to reach out for help, please do. SCRC is an amazing recovery center ready to help you just like they helped me. Not only is it near the beach, where I had many long walks as I began my journey in sobriety, but everything they do is geared towards meeting you where you’re at and walking along side you. The staff is amazing, many of whom are on their own journey in sobriety, with the sincere desire to give back to those yearning for healing, change, and purpose. The sober houses are just what I needed and gave me the time and safe space to begin to change. Along with specific group time and counseling provided by the center, they encourage 12 step meetings, getting a sponsor and working the steps. It is through working the steps where I truly found the healing and change necessary to live sober and free. SCRC supported me all along the way providing the space and resources to entirety focus on my own walk in early sobriety. Today I have a life I always wanted but could never have with the chains of my addiction. If you think there is no hope like I did, I hope my experience will give you the hope you can get free too. I am forever grateful to SCRC and highly recommend them for you too. You are loved and you don’t have to do this alone.

I am beyond grateful for Solutions 4 Recovery. From the time I made the decision to call them to get help, they have gone above and beyond to make my recovery possible, exciting, and successful. They have wonderful group facilitators that keep a constant theme of recovery, while creating a safe environment for clients to open up in group therapy. We get taken to many excellent 12-step meetings; the recovery in this area is over the top amazing. The houses clients live in are beautiful, beyond what words can say, and very comfortable, homey, and lively. Overall, this program has changed my life forever for the better. I came to treatment with very little hope for a future for myself. Capo has been patient, kind, and loving to me, at a time when I was none of those things to myself. The entire staff, in more ways than I can count, is a significant part of the success in my recovery. To Jacqueline, Director of Detox and house manager for the girl’s house, is without a doubt the most inspiration women I know. What she has done for me in my time here I will never forget, and I couldn’t think of any women better fit to be someone to lean on during recovery. To Jeff, for always keeping things real, giving great advice, and being an inspiring example of success in recovery. To Toni, thank you for all the education groups on recovery, hearty laughs, compassion, strength, and hope. To Amanda, for showing me it is completely and totally possible to be happy in recovery and have fun again while in recovery. To Bill, my boyfriend and my couples counselor, for getting my relationship on a beautiful path after just about destroying it in addiction. To Lauralee, my therapist, for guiding me through this whole process, allowing me to feel safe, helping me to forgive myself, and always reminding me it is okay to make mistakes. And to John, the owner, for always saying hi to me, asking how I am, what’s new; I’ve never known another treatment center where an owner cares so much about the clients. I wouldn’t have wanted to end up anywhere else besides Solutions for treatment.

Coming back to Covenant Hills wasn’t easy. Honestly, it was humbling. I didn’t return because they failed me, I came back because I failed myself. I stopped working my program, and my life started falling apart. When I walked back through those doors, I was broken, ashamed, and scared. But they didn’t judge me. They welcomed me with open arms and reminded me that I was worth saving. They helped me pick up the pieces and start over. This isn’t a luxury spa. It’s not about comfort, it’s about change. Real, hard, messy change. If you’re looking for quick fixes or an easy ride, this isn’t the place for you. But if you’re ready to dig deep, face the truth, and fight for your life, Covenant Hills will stand by you every step of the way. It’s not pretty, and it’s not easy, but it works. And if you give it everything, you will not leave the same person you were when you came in. For me, reconnecting with God was everything. Covenant Hills gave me that chance. If you’re a Christian, you’ll find a place to strengthen your faith. And if you’re searching for a Higher Power, I believe with all my heart you’ll find it here, a power that can pull you out of the darkness and into the life of sobriety you’ve been praying for.

New Method Wellness is nothing short of extraordinary. To call it a treatment center feels like an understatement. From the moment I made the call, I knew I was in the right place. I'm so thankful for the team at NMW. I came from out of state after seeing a friend of mine get clean here. I'm now 6 months sober and I'm back to loving myself and life. Juanita and the intake staff make the process with the insurance companies and arrival seamless so you can focus purely on recovery. The staff, main facility, housing, programs and activities are top class. I really couldn't say better things about their program. I wish I would have made it years ago. If you're on the fence like I was don't wait another day, week, year and just call them. You will not regret it.

At the time in my life when I needed a place for healing this name came up immediately! At that time I thought it was too good to be true. I had never been to a treatment center before and did not know what to expect. If that is you, just know that it is real and absolutely amazing! They have someone on staff in particular who is truly an angel. Don’t get me wrong all of the staff are incredible but, this one lady, Juanita practically saved my life. From the initial calls to get me there to being in touch with me at each airport that I had to transfer from, Juanita showed me how much she cared about me. In saying this please keep in mind she did not know me from Adam. She simply knew I was broken and needed help. She will forever be my guardian angel! The facility itself is beautiful. The location is great. The therapy is second to none in my honest opinion. I learned so much about me and what broke me. I wholeheartedly recommend NMW to anyone that needs recovery including mental health and or addiction. They will see YOU the individual. I truly believe in my heart that they are not in it for the money. They are doing what they do to save lives and show us all that there is healing and a bright future ahead of you no matter what has happened in the past.

I can't thank New Directions for Women enough for the care they provided my sister during her battle with heroin addiction. From the first phone call we made, they met us with kindness and compassion, at a time when we had quite honestly lost all hope. Their focus on family involvement was pivotal, offering us support and guidance to heal together. The community atmosphere helped my sister to confront her challenges and embrace lasting change. She still has contact with some of the women she went through the program with! Today, my sister is thriving in her sobriety, thanks to the foundation laid by New Directions for Women. They let men die experimenting with drugs for mental illnesses. My mom thankfully got him out. First term jerry brown was looking into it but then stopped. This was in 1973 but from what I learn the VA is pretty horrible wherever they try. How many actually went to war so they can understand better and be kind and always learning for people so they can be cared for and whatever their needs are.

I had a loved one go to Crescent Moon Recovery for an alcohol addiction. This program was life-changing for him! The staff is amazing and really cares for their clients. He really enjoyed the group therapy, and he learned a lot from the group facilitators. I cannot recommend CMR enough if you or a loved one is struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction!

A close friend of mine went to inpatient rehab in California and then went to Crescent Moon Recovery for PHP IOP. Since going to CMR and moving to Orange County I have seen her become a completely different person. She’s tried getting sober before and other places just weren’t getting the results we were hoping for. She has been able to repair relationships with her family and I finally have my friend back! I highly recommend CMR for anyone struggling with addiction and mental health because I think the therapy and work they do is nothing short of a miracle. Thank you CMR for everything you’ve done for her and for us!

Alter is a cut above the rest. It’s very exhausting looking for a “quality” Mental Health program in California. Many websites say this and that to get your attention and end up being nothing like they advertised. Alter from day 1 represented an honest approach at how they could help our loved one. I want to thank the caring and compassionate staff for giving my sister the tools to keep moving forward with her life. You have my utmost respect!

When everything in my life was slipping through my fingers and I could barely hold myself together, Alter showed up. I was lost—unable to focus, unsure of where to turn, convinced I was falling apart. But they saw something in me I couldn’t see in myself. They helped me believe again… helped me remember what it feels like to actually enjoy being alive. I don’t know how to thank them enough.

They really supported me on my journey to getting sober and to sobriety. Mentally, they provided me with the tools and perspective I needed to navigate challenges with clarity. Spiritually, their guidance was incredibly uplifting and helped me reconnect with my sense of purpose. Physically, their expertise and personalized approach left me feeling energized and healthier than I have in years. What truly sets them apart is the genuine, holistic care they provide. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Able 2 Change for their exceptional support in assisting those battling addiction and mental health challenges. I recently had the privilege of collaborating with them to guide a family member toward treatment. The admission process was both thorough and efficient. The clinical team established a meaningful connection, significantly impacting my cousin's recovery journey. Additionally, the family program provided invaluable education for our family. The alumni support has helped my cousin feel embraced while reintegrating into the community.

Their approach of looking at the family unit versus just the young person in treatment has given me and my family hope and the tools nessesary to rebuild the love and trust that we have for one another. If I could do less than one star I would. This was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life. In case you were considering going, I’ll break it down for you. The brochure boasts wraparound support such as chiropractor care, massage therapy, weight training, yoga, mindful walks (daily! which is actually not allowed) There are actually no physical advantages to this program. No weight training, mindful walks, chiropractor care, massage therapy or even yoga. Everything is based on a level system. Outings, and movement are all level based. If you get 3 restrictions (not finishing a meal) you don’t have any privileges. If you get 1, you don’t have any privileges for the following day. For yoga my first week I laid on the mat and occasionally did a stretch. Your bathroom uses are monitored, someone stands by the door with the door cracked and they check the toilet before you flush. (This happens up until level 3 to my understanding.) The staff is brilliant at gaslighting, manipulating and invalidating the residents, so much so, we had to strategize how to stand our ground. They’ll talk all day long about how it’s a voluntary program and that you’re free to leave, but once you say you want to go there’s an onslaught from many of the providers. This includes threatening of AMA and ACA, stating it’s your eating disorder that wants you to leave, or simply minimizing your experience and gaslighting you to believe it’s not as bad as you think. Example; I was fed wheat, and I have a gluten sensitivity. The dietician and clinical director minimized and invalidated my experience by saying it was human error, it was only once and it’s only a sensitivity. Wheat makes me feel really ill, and I expressed that concern to every staff member and to the staff BEFORE admittance as well!! I understand mistakes happen, but I’m at an eating disorder program. Mistakes should NOT happen in regards to food. (Also, there were only 5 of us. How hard is it to feed 5 people). I’m not going to speak on other peoples behalf, but there were multiple “mix ups” or misunderstandings with other residents as well. Most of the staff felt incredibly unsupportive. We were treated like toddler inmates. I felt like I was just a number on a paycheck to most of them. On my last day, leaving ACA, only one RC was kind to me and encouraged me. (Shoutout Ruby) On my second day there, because I felt so ill (not entirely convinced they weren’t giving me wheat the whole time) and was talking to an RC about how sick I felt talking about the previous meal. She told me it wasn’t an option to not talk about it and that that specific behavior would be challenged. Obviously I’m there to challenge my eating disorder. But on my second day, only my first lunch there, to say that my feelings were immediately invalidated made me sob. On my first morning, I was crying so hard I was heaving. I went to throw up but the nurse wouldn’t hand me the trash can. She said if I threw up it would be marked as a behavior in my chart. I felt more supported and encouraged by the other residents than I ever did from the staff. Residents say it’s impossible to get to level 3. I personally don’t think they want you to get to level 3 because the longer you’re there the more money they get. IF you decide to go, these are some question to ask PRE admission. (These are all questions I wish I knew to ask.) How long does it take to move levels? Explain in detail the level system. Explain in detail the contract system. Explain in detail the “consequences”. Explain in detail, what types of movement I’m allowed to partake in, and reasonings of why and why not. Why does the brochure boast physical advantages such as chiropractor care, massage therapy and movement, when those are not actually involved in their residential care? Explain in detail, the different forms of therapy, how often they’re provided and by what providers. Explain the roles of the RC’s. Many of the RC’s relished their power. Ask about exposures, and how often they happen. Good luck!

Choosing Casa Recovery was truly the best decision I have ever made. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, supported, and genuinely cared for. The staff go above and beyond in every possible way — their compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail are unmatched. They truly see each client as an individual and tailor their approach to meet your unique needs. The level of care here is exceptional. Every therapist, case manager, and support team member works together to create an environment that feels safe, encouraging, and filled with hope. The program is thoughtfully structured, balancing therapy, education, and holistic wellness in a way that promotes real, lasting change. What stood out most to me was the sense of community — not just from the staff, but from the other clients as well. Everyone is on their own journey, yet the support and understanding that flow through this place make healing feel possible and real. Casa Recovery doesn’t just help you get better — they help you rediscover yourself. I am deeply grateful for my time here and for the people who made such a positive impact on my life.
