Drugs and alcohol were how I coped with the emotional distress I had been long experiencing and during my time at IVRS the staff, the structure, and the atmosphere provided me with an atmosphere that I could make a lasting change. Today, I am not just sober; I am at happy & at peace. I don't miss the days I used to abuse drugs/alcohol and that is an absolute miracle. I am so grateful for the staff that dedicated their lives and careers to being of service to those struggling with addiction. After The Arrow House He went to Newport Academy for 2.5 months part time outpatient and it was a great transition for him! We are currently in therapy once a week with The Help group. - they are great too. They have a therapist, psychiatrist, and parent advocate I meet with once a week. It’s been 5 months since he stayed there. Our kid was getting straight A’s there for a while! We have a family meeting every week on Sundays to discuss as how things are going and implement rules or change things. This is really helpful because we have two households. Shout out to Bri who leads a fabulous team of care coordinators: Paras, Haley, Nohely, Gaby, Liz, Ariel, Daniela, Alondra, and Sumayyah, along with my clinical team Heather and Sam, and alumni coordinator Jessica! We had fun outings like the beach, roller skating, farmers market, berry picking, mini golf and more. The therapy and programming was insightful, and we also had great groups with yoga, music, equine, and art. (Special thanks to the yoga instructor Shannon, who made yoga really accessible for everyone and also provided an amazing sound bath experience with crystal bowls!) Some days were tough and the schedule and rules could feel overwhelming, but looking back, I realize the structure was exactly what I needed.
