My husband went through the independence center over 30 years ago. He did relapse after the first 3 months but he did not attend any aftercare or AA. Within a year he started going to AA and has been sober for almost 35 years. My son has also been through the independence center twice with varied success. He has had relapses but maintained sobriety for the majority of the time. He has used the tools he learned there to get sober again after relapsing without having to reenter treatment. The program will work for you if your honest with yourself and do the work. Good luck and god bless!

When you are ready, you are ready. I did three rehabs in the span of three summers and I’ve been sober a year and a half since going to the Independence Center. The ENTIRE staff wass genuinely interested in my recovery. Of course it’s up to me how honest I want to be with my counselor, Chaplin and myself (and God), but their unwavering encouragement doesn’t hurt and it didn’t. The facility is much better than others I’ve been to in Nebraska and they keep the distracting extracurricular horseplay to minimum. They have a great culture and alumni in the A.A. and Lincoln communities.

I was standing at their front door. Nobody would answer the phone called him from the parking lot. Nobody else would answer the phone call them after I left and asked. Do you take new admissions on the weekend? And they said no I don't. So I guess I'm going to have to find somewhere else to go. This is not a treatment center. A true treatment center will take somebody at any hour of any day

Family member was recently in the hospital for surgery and recovery. The only reason I give this a 2 is because many of the nurses, the social worker, and at least one of the hospitalists were great. Surgeon and other doctors were also great, but some of them weren't hospital employees. Most of the CNA's were either bossy or crabby or laughed at patients behind their back (this was witnessed). I had all medications detailed on a list with dosages, and yet somehow, two of those got messed up in the system, so they were not administering the correct amount. And when the patient tried to correct the nurses, no one ever brought in someone from pharmacy or notified them to get it corrected. Physical therapists and occupational therapists have zero respect for patient's privacy, dignity, or need for rest. Knocking on a patient's door is supposed to be a courtesy that requires acknowledgement, not just something to do with your hand as you actively walk in on a patient in a possible compromising position. And hardly anybody on those floors knows how to close the door when they exit the room of a bed-ridden patient.

Neither insurance nor VA were billed until it was too late to be billed. The hospital had my insurance and in the words of the staff that I talked to, and have written evidence of they “just didn’t know how to file a claim with my out of network insurance” yet I was able to get with my insurance and the VA and complete half the process for them having 0 medical billing experience. Unfortunately it was outside the billing window so now I get to deal with it. Now I have to ruin my credit that I spent a decade to rebuild and get to live pay check to pay check to pay for an ER visit because I’m being sued for a bill that I would have paid pennies to dollars on after insurance or VA all because they couldn’t be bothered to submit a claim to two separate entities both of which had been contacted and expecting the claim within days of my ER the visit. The kicker is THEY gave my insurance to a third party radiologist who had no issues filing a claim with my insurance company and received their payment. I received a bottle of soap to wash out my road rash on my own (from a motorcycle crash), some morphine to help with the pain, and a fat bill that they failed to file. The bill is small enough that proving they are at fault is as if not more expensive than just paying the bill. I’m now financially crippled for the next 2-3 years due to their failure to file the claim in a timely manner, again to two separate entities.

I had the best experience at Blue Valley. The staff is amazing and has always stuck by me...even when I was going through horrible times. We were seen in the emergency room on March 24th for our 9 month old son. They ran all necessary test to help us figure out what was wrong with our son. They listened to us. We were admitted and our dr is dr Leonard and he is beyond amazing. The nursing staff on the 4th floor first and second shift are great. They answer the call light within a good reasonable time. I would recommend this hospital. Thank you so much fourth floor nursing team, ER staff and dietary.

I had a great experience and a not so great one but the not so great was only because I was in the wrong I was keeping secrets I lied to staff to protect another girl don't keep secrets do the right thing always and you'll succeed idk about the newer staff but the ones who have been there awhile and the ones who have moved on are all amazing women who would do anything for you if you just let them in. I could write a positive book about pawnee mental health. People are so negative today and don't have anything nice to say at all so I hope this helps people who need to see it. I started my consumer experience with pawnee in the early 90s. They have come a very long way in the services and level of care that they provide. My experience has been that during my level of care people really cared about me as a person not as a person with great insurance. People might say what does that mean exactly? Mental health has to be managed by the patient and the doctor to achieve overall maximum results which may or may not be positive. But regardless of the results the people who work here care about the clients they serve and pawnee gets negative reviews. Well my message to you is to consider the source of the complaints. Because you can't show up to any mental health facility and demand them to fix your problems. First of all if you have a bad attitude check it at the door because they're professionals not babysitters. When you're ready to ask for help they will help you the best they can or refer you to a place that specializes in care they're not prepared to offer at the moment. None of this is open to interpretation in life if you want apples you know where to get them. At the grocery store. Don't cry about apples when you're eating grapes. There's no shortage on apples. What do I mean exactly? When you are honest and want help it's readily available. Stop making excuses and blaming others for your mistakes. Take accountability for your actions. Your actions. And you'll be surprised by the results even though you shouldn't be. Stop reading negative reviews that lead to a conclusion that you want to believe because you want to make excuses. Extremely caring and kind to me. Only complaint is that I was told I’d get my dab pen back. But upon checking out my items, it was somehow missing 🧐. If they had told me I was never gonna see it again I would have understood and been fine with them taking it. But I was told I’d get it back, and the fact it randomly went missing is awfully suspect 😂. But the actual services I received, amazing. They have such kind people working there. I will never forget the few conversations I had with the staff. Thank you!!

I am a retired critical care nurse. I am extremely pleased with the knowledgeable intheir Behavioral Health departments. They have helped all the members of our family. If there are any issues with the care givers, management addresses the issues. Their personel are compassionate and put their clients first, going out of their way to meet their needs, to see their clients get the care that they need. They have personel who work with the police. In times of extreme distress, the police can call them into the home night or day to assess a person in crises to get them the assistance they need immediately, with immediate follow-up the next day if at night. Help is right then, often preventing unnecessary ER trips or hospitalization preventing additional unnecessary stress and cost to the person and their loved ones in distress. I cannot recommend them enough.

Had a medical emergency yesterday and had to be rushed to the ER. Usually, this ER is somewhere i dread having to go because of past experiences but yesterday was different. The nurses I had helped me physically but also emotionally. They took my disorders into consideration when talking to me and showed me every bottle they had to give me via IV to help calm my mind. (Cptsd). Most hospitals dont do that. At least not in my experience. Thank you Abilene ER nurses. You made the scariest day of my life a little bit less traumatic.

I went to this hospital experiencing severe abdominal pain. What initially appeared to be a situation they considered stable ultimately turned out to be a ruptured cyst that resulted in approximately 400 cc of blood accumulating in my uterus. Despite my condition, I was repeatedly given pain medication and was being prepared for discharge. By approximately 6 a.m., the next ER shift reviewed my chart and recognized the seriousness of the situation. I was subsequently transferred to Salina for emergency surgery. That experience was deeply disturbing, not only because of the medical circumstances, but because of the way I was treated while I was in significant pain. I was made to feel as though my symptoms were exaggerated or somehow illegitimate. It is incredibly dangerous when assumptions about someone's appearance, clothing, dental condition, or socioeconomic circumstances influence how seriously their medical complaints are taken. Healthcare professionals have an ethical responsibility to evaluate patients based on their symptoms and clinical presentation—not preconceived notions, personal biases, or judgments about who they believe the patient is. A person should not have to look a certain way or fit a particular stereotype to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. I understand that medical professionals have difficult jobs and that not every diagnosis is immediately apparent. However, there is a profound difference between uncertainty and dismissing a patient's suffering. When someone comes to an ER in severe pain, they deserve to be listened to, evaluated thoroughly, and treated with compassion. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this hospital to be informed about my experience and to advocate for themselves if they feel they are not being taken seriously. No patient should have to be on the verge of a life-threatening situation before someone finally recognizes the severity of what is happening.
