I’m going to start by thanking you for listening to me, for making the effort to understand me, and for being always kind. Your warm and welcoming environment made me feel safe and comfortable when talking about my history and personal life. Thank you for making therapy worth it for my life. You rock.

I’m going to start off by saying Rob is a very understanding and good guy. Right after meeting him, I was comfortable talking to him about my situation, history, personal life, etcetera. He always seemed happy to see me, and happy to see me doing well and staying out of trouble. During our sessions he was relatable and made the sessions worth my time, not only the present, but for the future as well. I wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else for counseling after seeing him.

Gurnee, IL | Lake County Behavioral Health – Clustered Apartment Program, located in Gurnee, Illinois is a public alcohol and drug rehab that offers treatment for a variety of substance abuse addictions including co-occurring mental health disorders. They offer residential care providing long term support for addiction recovery, as well as flexible outpatient | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I am 62 years old and not accustomed to posting reviews but I feel it is important to post my personal experience with the Group Home. I lived at the Group Home beginning June 11, 2019 and stayed for approximately 3 months. I had been diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder at Crisis Care Prevention (part of the Lake County Health Department) and was homeless at the time. Given my age, I had lived most of my life with an undiagnosed mental illness and was grateful that there was finally a name, and more importantly, treatment for what was “wrong with Vicki”. At the Group Home I learned countless skills, even very simple skills such as attaining and maintaining structure in my day to day life. I had a bedtime and learned that it was important to “wind down” before going to sleep and I awoke at approximately the same time every morning. Gone are the days of staying up (and sel-medicating) all night long. I began my days rested and willing to learn and grow. Our counselor’s lead groups that are designed to guide you to be active in, and responsible for, your own recovery They also also presented and endless supply of coping skills/tools to help me manage my mental illness. Furthermore, these skills are presented in such a way that I finally understood the importance and concepts of what coping skills actually are and how much they can help me. I had responsibilities such as chores within the Group Home, I had peers, people similar to me, and found that this was a place that I fit in. I learned patience and acceptance and I learned, at the age of 59, how to be a valued member of my community, no matter what community I am living in. I was also introduced to the New Hope Recovery Center in Zion and Waukegan (or “drop in center”) where I continue to work my program of recovery and continue to be active within this community to this day. Nearly 3 years ago my life almost ended. I had hit the worst “bottom” in my life and had no hope for anything good. Getting a diagnosis, taking my medication, being teachable, living and learning in the group home, and going to the drop in center have all been instrumental as far as me being equipped with the necessary skills and tools I use every day to live my best life. In these past 3 years, I have been living a full life, a life filled with joy, hope and the possibility of a bright future. I recommend the Group Home for anyone in need and cannot say enough “good” about my experience there and how it changed my life in so many positive ways. I now live on my own but have a strong connection to all the people who continue to empower me to continue on my journey of recovery.

NIRC has helped me in countless ways and I owe a lot to them for helping me get where I am today. The staff is amazing, they will do anything in their power to support you in recovery and go out of their way to help in anyway they can; they truly want to see you succeed and helped me be sober for 4 years. Groups are helpful in that you are able to be vulnerable and get so much information to help get you through any situation - the therapists are there to help walk you through at any stage of your recovery. Clients are more than supportive and understand what we are all going through; they want to help not only themselves but everyone around them. NIRC is like a little family and with all the help we get, we can all make it through the challenging times.

I am consistently blown away by the care that SunCloud provides for individuals specifically with co-occurring disorders. They have a new adolescent residential program in Matteson, IL where care is literally non-existent. Colleen Kestel is their VP of Operations and is very selective on who she works with. I’ve trusted Colleen as a dietitian for many years, as well as Dr. Kim Dennis. I highly recommend SunCloud, especially for those with co-occurring disorders, who need a higher level of care!

I began IOP and individual counseling at Rosecrance in February 2026, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most positive and impactful decisions I’ve made. My counselor Dominique is truly exceptional — she embodies everything you hope to find in a counselor.
From my very first session, Dominique made me feel genuinely heard and understood. She listens with real empathy, never makes you feel judged, and creates a space where it’s safe to be completely honest. That kind of environment is rare and so incredibly valuable, especially when you’re navigating something difficult in your personal life.
What sets Dominique apart is her combination of warmth and professionalism. She doesn’t just listen — she provides thoughtful guidance and practical tools that I’ve been able to carry with me outside of our sessions. Her knowledge and approach have helped me build real coping skills that have made a meaningful difference in my day-to-day life.
Rosecrance as an organization has also impressed me with the quality of care and the caliber of their staff. Dominique will absolutely keep you on your toes, but if you want it bad enough, anything is possible — just put the work in and you will have true companionship throughout the entire experience. I cannot recommend her enough.

My dad was brought here for continued care, and I can confidently say this is the best LTACH we’ve experienced. Most of the employees here are incredibly compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring. The staff overall are truly GREAT!
Starting with the 3rd floor Nursing Manager, Joshua — an exceptional leader. He is understanding, a great listener, and was consistently supportive. He made a difficult time so much more bearable for our entire family. We are truly grateful for his presence and professionalism.
A big thanks also goes to the night-shift Nurse Supervisor, Chris, who was equally outstanding and always on top of things.
The nursing team deserves major recognition as well. Sylvia is top tier, and Andrea, Brigitte, Fidaa, Bosky, Jennifer, Dorian, Ritchie, Rincy, and Agaa were all excellent and deeply caring throughout.
Respiratory Tech Joby stood out for his professionalism and kindness, along with team members like Vikram, Mercy, Billy, Benzie, and Anna. Unfortunately, I have to give 4 stars instead of 5 due to one very poor experience with a tech named Sheena, which did affect our overall impression of the respiratory department.
I also want to commend the wonderful security team at the main entrance — Fedle, Bob, and Jerry were always warm and helpful. Special shoutout to Jasimine for her positive attitude.
There are many more staff members whose names I can’t recall, but they all contributed to a truly positive experience. If you’re considering this facility for a loved one, I wholeheartedly recommend it. You can bring your family member here with peace of mind knowing they’ll be well cared for.

the psychiatrist i was seeing through ascension was alright. i decided to transfer care from her to a different ascension provider. while i think dr. raza is good at what she does, i think she lacks something. i had an appointment scheduled (a 1 month follow up) back in the beginning of january for 4:30pm. i received a call from a number i didn’t recognize the day before my appointment. i answered it and it was dr. raza. she was calling to ask me if i could meet earlier the same day for our appointment. i said yes and left work 30 minutes early to have privacy for the telehealth appointment. im aware me leaving work early is my own decision and im not upset that i lost that time of paid work. but the new time of our appointment came and went with no call or texts for checking in for the appointment. there have been times when dr. raza has left me waiting in the zoom waiting room and usually if she wouldn’t meet for the zoom she would call me. so i waited for a call from her and didn’t receive one. i called the number she called me from and it rang 3 or 4 times and then the line disconnected, or
whoever was on the other line picked up my call but then hung up. i’m not sure. around almost 2 hours later i received a call from one of the front desk receptionist asking if i met with dr. raza. the receptionist was very nice, all of the receptionist at this location are so friendly and helpful. she was just as confused as i was. this experience with dr. raza made me want to switch providers/transfer care. it’s not that i don’t think she’s competent because she is. it really just didn’t sit right with me how this whole situation went down. i have seen dr. raza since i started coming to ascension but there were other little things that happened that made me not want to continue care with her. every time i met with her she would ask the same questions, it felt very robotic at times. she would always ask if i see a therapist and i would always answer yes. my confusion from her asking me this is, isnt it in my chart/file that im seeing a therapist? especially since the therapist i see is in literally the same building as her? i understand too that i am not dr. raza’s only patient and i dont expect any provider to remember every little detail about their patients. it’s just that every appointment i had with her felt like it was a new patient appointment because she would ask me all the same questions every single time. i’m expressing a lot of empathy by saying that i have no idea how many patients dr. raza, or any ascension provider, sees on a daily basis, or what their typical case load is like. i can imagine it’s a lot to take on and a lot for one person to handle. to me, it just felt like there was a disconnect from me and my psychiatrist. and i’m not saying this was a terrible experience by any means, dr. raza is a good doctor. for me it just feels like i need someone new who can look at my case with maybe a new perspective. i haven’t seen my new provider yet but i hope she is able to help me as well.

I am so grateful for Nicasa and the incredible support I received from their team. With the guidance of my caseworker, Ms. Darlene, I was able to make real progress in my life. She not only encouraged me to continue my education, but also helped me get my driver’s license and supported me through the process of having my background expunged. Because of her kindness, professionalism, and dedication, I have been able to put my life back together in ways I never thought possible.
I also want to recognize her supervisor, Ms. Sindey, whose support and understanding made a huge difference. Both of them carry a genuine heart for the community and give their time, energy, and compassion to help families across Lake County.
What makes Nicasa so special is that they are not just another organization—they truly care. They spend countless hours serving people and making a positive impact. I have referred many friends and family to them, and they too have been blessed by the hard work and dedication of Ms. Darlene, Ms. Sindey, and the Nicasa team.
Thank you, Nicasa, for helping me rebuild my life and for all you continue to do for our community.

She is probably 30 years younger than us, but possesses a wealth of knowledge, patience, empathy and excellent communication skills. She is a good listener which is crucial to being a great counselor, but was also confident enough to call us out when necessary. I've struggled my entire life with low self-esteem, low self-confidence, depression, anxiety - building up walls to protect myself from discomfort, vulnerability, hurt, rejection, you name it. My parents divorced when I was 11 and that only seemed to reinforce those walls. I didn't let anyone in. I've worked with countless mental health providers over the years, but I never felt comfortable enough to expose my true self and dig deep to the root of my struggles.
I happened upon CST Counseling at one of my low points last year and was paired up with Megan Fuller. I felt an instant, genuine connection with her. She made me feel comfortable. She listened. She somehow remembered everything I said without taking notes. Speaking with Megan never felt like the typical patient/therapist interaction that I was used to. It felt like I was talking with a friend. After a while a weird thing happened for me... I actually looked forward to my sessions with Megan. I've been seeing her for over a year now, by far the longest I've ever maintained the same therapist.
A few months back, Megan suggested I work with Jordan Rieke (also at CST) to manage my medications and just like Megan, I felt a genuine connection with Jordan as well. I was seeing a psychiatrist that maybe gave me 5 minutes every few months and I felt like I was just another client. But not with Jordan. It felt like I had another friend to talk to. She adjusted my medication (the same one I'd been taking for almost 10 years) and I almost immediately felt the benefits.
I don't get happy about much, but I am happy and grateful that I found these two to help me take down my wall brick by brick, and help me get out there and live the life I've been avoiding for decades. Thank you, Megan and Jordan!

I came here for the Adult IOP program after a recent stay at inpatient unit at a different hospital. I cannot say enough about how well this program is run and the people who run it. Dee and Cory are amazing at what they do . They have that perfect balance of understanding your thoughts and challenging your thoughts . Everyone is able to speak as much or as little as they want. The program is well structured and you can expect the same and clear expectations daily. A variety of activities and discussion groups from daily check ins to music and art therapy. Strongly reccommend this program if needed.

I was a patient in 2-South recently. The condition that landed me in NCHBHC isn't the usual (it's an endocrine disorder with marked psych symptoms), but thankfully the teams of nurses, docs, caseworkers, and BHAs at NCH not only took me at my word when I explained what was going on, but actively asked insightful, curious questions to gain a better understanding of my condition and how best to help me get back on my feet. They were also phenomenal allies, and because of their conscientiousness and willingness to listen, I felt safe as a nonbinary patient.
Thank you Dr Okoli, Dr Ghani, the entire glorious nursing team, Jen, and the fantastic BHA team. Y'all worked in tandem with my outside team of docs and helped me get back on my feet when I was too exhausted to keep up by myself. Special thanks to Alma, Jen, Donte, John, Emma, Aleksandra, and Syed, who sat with me during difficult moments and made me feel seen and cared-for as myself, not just as a patient. Endeavor, you'd do well to give every single employee there a solid raise (they've seriously earned it), and perhaps consider hiring a few more folks. I was surprised to see some faces back so quickly after they'd already put in a full shift. Your teams need rest and recovery time, too, especially teams so attentively patient-focused as this one.
As far as the facility goes, it's an inpatient mental health hospital. You're rarely the only patient on the ward, and you definitely shouldn't expect to be waited on hand and foot if you're otherwise able-bodied and of sound(ish) mind. You don't get to have your phone or electronics, no drawstrings, no belts, no hoodies-- it can feel isolating, but it's standard protocol for these sorts of places for good reason. This is not a penthouse suite at the Ritz-Carlton-- it is a hospital where you *will* be working alongside your doc team and other patients to heal and adapt. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
Some rooms are singles, and some rooms are doubles. All the floors are clean, beds are comfy, blankets are hospital standard (you can ask for an extra if you're cold, and room temps can be adjusted individually), and the nurse and BHA teams check in every fifteen minutes, day and night. Leaving your door half-open helps mitigate the change in light levels when they check in if that disrupts your sleep, and the nurses can give melatonin to help with getting *to* sleep. Showers are on a sign-up basis in morning and evening, and while the spigots kind of have an awkward spray, the water is warm and the shampoo smells good.
The food is palatable to enjoyable (with the sole exception of the chicken parm, which is... well, it's *only* describable as edible-- best avoid that one), the papers come in daily so there are always crosswords, the TV gets regular channels as well as Freeform and Netflix, and coloring pages and word searches can be requested. They keep you busy with six to seven group sessions a day-- it can be exhausting to attend, and some folks find the topics 'cringey', but believe me, it's stuff that can really help, especially if you're honest with yourself and your docs about what you're dealing with.
Overall, I would recommend NCH Behavioural Health 2-South to any adult in crisis as a safe, warm, helpful place to heal and find your footing again.
