I have been all over the country to various VA medical facilities: Pittsburgh VA, Altoona VA, Audie Murphy VA, Orlando, FL VA, and now Marion, IL. For the last 3 years they have served me faithfully: met my mental, physical, and emotional needs through Behavioral Health, PT, diagnostics, and quality community care referrals. I couldn't be more satisfied with the care that the Marion VA provides. Of course, I am bias, but I think not having to wait 6 months for an MRI (like in San Antonio) is worth the change. I consider myself quite blessed. If you don't want to feel like a number, or a cog in a machine; Marion VA is for you.

I have been in treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues at the Marion office of Carbondale DUI since I got out of prison a year ago. My individual and group treatment has been amazing and I don't think I would still be clean and out of federal prison if I didn't have the support I do from my counselors there. Kate and Cortney are both the best counselors I have ever had and go above and beyond to make sure you are getting the best treatment possible.

I went to rehab and outpatient counseling at Fellowship House. They were a safe haven for me for two years. The staff was welcoming, kind and encouraging. It’s difficult to put into words how much this facility saved my life. I arrived a hopeless, angry broken person, and for the first time in 25 years, I feel whole. I didn’t know how to express what I felt, and so I tried to isolate myself.. But they would include me anyway. They gave me love when I couldn’t love myself. They were patient and kind and compassionate to every broken part of who I was.. they refused to give up on me. The experience was profound. The group structure of the program ensures that each individual feels equally connected and heard, coupled with individualized counseling sessions with a primary counselor. I cannot say enough positive things about this facility the staff and the experience I had there. All I can say is that no matter what your situation or circumstances, if you are looking for help and somewhere safe to heal, I highly, highly recommend this facility in Carbondale Illinois.

Gateway foundation is an amazing program and the clinicians and all the staff are truly a well oiled machine and work great together to provide caring effective treatment to get you on the path of sobriety and recovery. the place has clean housing great food great treatment program and extracurricular activities. I went there twice. The first time was back in December and the second time was in January. The first time was horrible the first night I didn’t sleep at all. The workers there seemed professional and helpful. The only issue I had was the lack of communication to the outside world. If your like me then your always busy so being locked in a building that only lets you use the phone at 5pm did me more harm then good. I will admit there are a few employees who genuinely don’t care about you. There is only one licensed physiatrist there and he didn’t seem to care to chit chat with his patients. When I was there I enjoyed playing cards and watching tv with the other patients they were really good people and it saddens me to see such pure and good people struggle with mental illnesses. There wasn’t much to do except wake up take meds and eat. At the end of each day we had group therapy. The food was great and plentiful and the meds really evened out my moods and made me more calm. Because the meds helped with anxiety my BP went from 160/75 to a low 123/85. I was glad to be a patient there and I think it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety disorder, psychosis although I wasn’t hallucinating. And the second time I went I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety disorder, and a NOS personality disorder.

Edit: I’ll preface this review with a paragraph from the Hippocratic Oath that physicians swear to uphold when they become Drs. “Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will enter to help the sick, and I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, especially from abusing the bodies of man or woman, bond or free. And whatsoever I shall see or hear in the course of my profession, as well as outside my profession in my intercourse with men, if it be what should not be published abroad, I will never divulge, holding such things to be holy secrets. Now if I carry out this oath, and break it not, may I gain for ever reputation among all men for my life and for my art; but if I break it and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me.[3] — Translation by W.H.S. Jones” So I was an Xray tech in the SE ER in the 90s before I became disabled & I have a very good understanding of medical ethics. I lost a kidney in 2000 to renal cancer. In 2006, the nephrectomy scar on my right side herniated, involving my liver. I was hospitalized and surgeon Dr Joseph McCadams was called in. Laparoscopic hernia surgery was scheduled for July 2006 on a Friday, by Sunday post op, my right side was swelling and turning red. I was refused an appointment when I called his office the next day & ended up in the ER the next day. They called him and he instructed them to send me home, that I was fine. I called his office the next day, and again was refused an appointment, being told I would have to wait for the post op appointment already set for the following week. The pain was becoming unbearable & I started running a fever so I went back to the ER & was admitted, Dr McCadams later appeared in my room in the ER, angry that I’d been admitted and telling me not to expect any drugs from him. He came to my doorway in the hospital each morning, mocking me for crying in pain. He gave me no fluids & insufficient antibiotics, I felt so alone and scared. Post op patients are so vulnerable, and to be verbally abused and mocked by the very person who did this to me was life altering. I ended up leaving ama & had my elderly parents drive me to St. Louis, to SLU ER where I was quickly surrounded by people, admitted and scheduled for emergency surgery the next morning. I spent the night with 4 IV machines trying to rehydrate me and pumping me full of antibiotics. I was at SLU for nearly a month after that, my surgeon told he had not expected me to live & that the care I had experienced under Dr McCadams care was very poor. The infection damaged my pancreas, leaving me with chronic pancreatitis for 5 years and even now, I live with pancreatic insufficiency. I have severe right side muscle damage and use a walker if I have to walk very far. I did report him to the state medical board once I recovered enough from the resulting PTSD but it was likely too late, many years had passed by then. I can’t recommend this person at all, he can be quite abusive to vulnerable patients. I had left my review on Dr McCadams Google reviews many years ago but when he moved to Mercy from the clinic, he had his Google reviews turned off, effectly deleting all the bad reviews, including mine. That's why I'm putting it here on the hospital page, I don't want anyone to suffer the way I did from his abuse. Be safe out there. Edit: To Mercy staff, I have responded to your request that I email you months ago on a different post, you don't respond back so there's no point in doing it again.

From the first day I started the programs available at Comprehensive Connections "Drug Rehabilitation", "Individual Therapy, "Group Therapy", It's been nothing but a blessing. The individual therapy has litterly changed my life. All of the counselors are so skilled and caring. Ive been to other drug Rehabilitation places before and Comprehensive Connections is nothing like them. The difference is the staff truly care genuinely care with there heart. The counselors take there time and listen, and work on my problems in all directions not just drug and alcohol addiction but all my "character defects" which is in turn is what is causing my need for use. of a drugs or alcohol. It's been a battle and always will be but at least now I know how to fight back with the tools taught here. So thank you counselors and management and everyone that works there you truly are a blessing from God Anyone that's struggling for mental health problems or addiction of any sort this is your place I promise these people here are genuine and extremely knowledgeable. The only way to beat this disease, is to fight back, and you "don't" have to do it on your own. A special than you to "Kevin", "Brandon", and "Jamie" for truly helping me and being there for me in my time of need and teaching me techniques to fight this disease. 👍♥️✝️

I enjoy working with my Psychiatrist and Therapist. They are warm and welcoming. I did not feel judge or uncomfortable speaking to them. My only complaint was having to wait a year to start seeing the Therapist, however I was able to start seeing my Psychiatrist right away. Also I use the pharmacy at the CCC, Genoa. The keep track of my prescriptions and will refill them when needed and let me know they are ready to pick up. I never have to work about running out if I forget to get the refill.
