I got stationed there after tech school 1969 - 1971 and loved it before going to Vietnam. The fishing was great. We lived in Dover FoxCroft for a little over a year then moved into base housing at Dow Air Force base and left for Vietnam end of October 71. People were great and really enjoyed those 2 years.

Unfortunately at one point I was a prisoner here, as in I made a bad decision. On that note Charleston really helped they weren't treating me like a criminal they treated me like some one who just needed guidance.
They have a job to do it's our faults we are in there; weather its we actually committed the crime, or just being around the wrong people at the wrong time.
Those are the decisions we made they helped me realize that. That being said some crimes committed, (having heard the stories, and deducing a percentage of them lie to you and some actually do tell the truth.) were committed for reasons justified. justified is not always law abiding.
This facility has good people creating and working with inmates to have good programs in place and jobs to work and make money. Remember in a place like prison the experience is what you make it so if your negative your outcome is negative if you are positive your outcome is positive.

Best mental hospital in Maine. They act like this is the most severe place you can end up but I found the treatment here to be the best even if the stay was about 50% longer than when I went to other hospitals I deserved it because I was really unwell when I started.
I was difficult to work with and paranoid about trying their medication but they worked with me. The best part is they never forced me to take anything except one time when I dissolved a pill in my mouth instead of swallowing it whole. So they made me take it again. Then they said they were going to force me to take haldol once with a shot but I said " time out, I'll take it orally" so they cancelled the shot and I took the pill. That actually really made me angry but they let me go outside right after.
They gave me ice cream for good behavior almost every day. You can call the kitchen and order custom food if they have the ingredients. The coffee is almost unlimited (decaf). You can almost always get a snack if you want one. They gave me headphones and this part was really awesome, they let me use a computer to put music i purchased on Amazon on a memory card for headphones they let me use. So I could listen to the radio or my own music whenever the battery was charged. They allowed books. And I got to go outside multiple times a day. (There is even a tree in the courtyard you can touch.) A tree doesn't seem important but if feels like a big deal if you're locked up.
As far as the treatment team goes I've never worked with a team that was so nice. Doctor Reeves was the smartest most flexible doctor I've ever worked with. I wasn't easy to work with but Reeves did a great job and eventually earned my trust. I should of listened to him more. I'm so used to doctors disrespecting me and forcing me to take meds I don't want to take, it was really refreshing to have a doctor that wanted me on a med I was willing to keep taking long term. I was used to psychiatrists getting my meds wrong so I underestimated Reeves. I should of took his recommendations more often, can't say that for other psychiatrists I've had.
Overall I felt a high level of respect and professionalism from the treatment team.
What was the biggest downside? Ice cold showers during the middle of winter. The showers were ice cold. I'm surprised a pipe didn't burst. They said the water would warm up if I left it running but it never did warm up.

I’ve been coming to groups for. A few years. They have changed a lot to keep up with the times. They were one of the first in the area. It use to be a lot different years ago. You wanted to get sober it may have taken weeks to get in for your initial appointment Nowadays with everything on the app/online it’s a blessing as you can be using today and be sober tomorrow. You have to do your part. I’m grateful for the program. They will work with you and your schedual. My only gripe is they don’t offer a long term option for people who are stuck on suboxone for pain management. And that the turn over rate for counselors is super high. This place is horrendous. Was assisting a senior family member with outpatient treatment at this facility, it was a total disorganized mess. The staff can be incredibly rude and snippy. This likely is due to being spread too thin. I work in healthcare I get it, but patient care and customer service always should be #1. You can sense staff are unhappy. RN’s are doing secretarial/office manager work, they don’t know the complexities of Medicare and because of that the patients suffer. My family member was treated for a year before anyone realized they didn’t accept her insurance lol. How does that even happen? This error should have been caught on admission. As soon as they could no longer bill for them, they were pretty much written off. The program wasn’t even going to make sure they had enough medication to get them through to a new doctor. The provider himself Dr. K was fabulous, but he has given his notice. Also in terms of counseling they are way behind the times with not offering Zoom sessions and an app. Instead they are having consumers sit on an audio only 1 and a half hour long phone call. Counselors struggle to fill up dead air and are running out of topics and interest about 30 mins in. Why they don’t have their own app and telehealth meeting platform at this point is beyond me. It’s 2025. The location itself is also pretty run down and uninviting. I was nervous to send my loved one there alone/unattended. Overall this is the most lackluster MAT center I’ve ever encountered. There are so many wonderful recovery programs in Maine, but this isn’t one of them.

I called to get help and the lady on the phone was incredibly rude, dismissive, and talked down to me. This was extremely disheartening, I called because I wanted to better myself and they completely shut me down. If this is how all of the staff behaves, I would NOT recommend it.

Went to this place for the first time ever Today and have never tried methadone before Today.
The doctor and staff were extremely knowledgeable about everything and truly care and made very easy and a fantastic first experience long lines so keep that in mind but overall was really shocked at how cool and caring they were and pretty fast as well so will be going back every day now for sure.
If it's your first time or 5th time this place is definitely something I would truly recommend and that's being completely honest no BS. 👌🤝🙏

I've been working with these guys for six years. I have had a total of three case managers during that time (I was only with the first one for about a month before she had to take time off for some reason, they put me with #2 and I adored her and opted not to go back to #1 when she came back). Both times my case manager put referrals in for counseling for me, I was situated with a counselor in less than a month!
I am a person who requires a TON of support, for example: I have very bad PTSD, including severe medical trauma, but I am also physically disabled and trying to navigate getting that figured out, which means I have to go to a lot of medical appointments but my PTSD makes it very hard. Both my previous CM and my new one are very willing to accompany me to appointments to make sure my PTSD symptoms don't interfere with my treatment and so that I can remember what was talked about. I also require support in nearly every other aspect of my life, and I have always been pleased with my CMs abilities to help
When CM#2 had an emergency that took them out of work, Health Affiliates had me with a new case manager in less than a week.
I also really like that I can view all of my progress notes and other documents from home using the web portal.
All of the providers I have worked with (CM and counseling) have been open minded and respectful of my "alternative" faith, and of my sexuality.

I think this organization is wonderful. I've been seeing a counselor without having to travel anywhere, and we do weekly video visits. She referred a case manager for me, and I haven't met her yet, but I feel like she is going to be the perfect fit for me and help me achieve some goals. As someone who does better with more human level interactions between myself and my care team this place has been awesome. I've had two case managers and two therapists here, both of the first moved to different fields, and med management for almost four years through MBHO. I've never done well with that button up all business approach alot of agencies use, so if that's what you're looking for look elsewhere. If you want providers that try to really get to know YOU and not just treat you like client #123, then this agency will be exactly what you're looking for. They put you center in your care and don't handhold through everything so you have to actually try and participate in your own care. My mental, physical and social health have improved by leaps and bounds because I had to say what my goals are not be told what goals are "best". If you are looking to heal and not just maintain by going through the motions then MBHO has what you need.

I just need to say that Angelica Estes-Lebrun a new PCP for CMFP is a very thorough dr. She really listens to what you have to say and follows thru to all of your concerns. It so rare to find a dr that really listens and truly cares about her patients. She is truly a 5 star dr.

After countless hours working with different therapists, psychologists, and various specialists, I finally was given a chance to move forward from a road block diagnosis given to me after 30 minutes with a doctor in Acadia as a teenager. I literally cried at my initial assessment when Chris was willing to try a new route and actually hear my story. They blood test you, which can be a glaringly obvious source of internal dysfunction. They refer you for testing and therapy. This is the one place I have not felt bullied into taking one type of medication that has no positive aspects for me. If MBH wasn't it for you, keep looking. Eventually you will find someone who is willing to help you.

Great support and services and dreams logan as well as counseling and IOP address what help you need and get you there and listen to you. Dr logan is a blessing in my recovery and mental health as well as all staff. They are always busy and that's normal but I will never go anywhere else for help. I was so impressed with Dr. Logan's first appointment with my son. His knowledge and demeanor were top notch. Within minutes it was obvious that he had read over the assessment and understood my son and his needs. We have had experiences with several substance abuse agencies and this is the first that we have been thoroughly hopeful about.
