Went here 3 years ago and it was hands down the best choice I ever made. If you are ready to get sober and can stay focused on your own recovery (stay out of any drama) this program has so much to offer. The staff are wonderful and treat you like a woman, not a patient. The balance between stature and freedom is really helpful in those early months of recovery. They also allow your children to visit snd stay over on the weekends and help connect you with all the resources you need when you leave. If you put 1/4 the effort you put into your addiction into your recovery while staying here, you will succeed.

IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A BETTER LIFE WITHOUT THE USE OF DRUGS/ALCOHOL, I would HIGHLY recommend this program. It not only teaches you how to live a healthy lifestyle but how to love yourself again. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I lived with my addiction for more than half my life. I am now 32 years old with a substantial amount of clean time. I couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful, dedicated staff and the women who genuinely cared and supported me throughout my journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! What!…..I can only give 5 stars! 🤔 I would give 10 stars if it was an option. I have been talking to my social worker on the phone for approximately two years now. I get a full 60 minute visit with her and it helps greatly. Early on I believe it was only a matter of a few days before they sent me up for my first appointment. Chelsea listens to me rambling on and on… And when I finally let her speak (LOL) she will come up with some good suggestions in order to help me, help myself. Therapy for me is a very slow process. Let’s face it I’ve had problems for decades… Do I really think they were all going to be solved overnight, NO! That one hour a week helps so much… And every once in a great while I need to rely on the crisis line… That’s what they are there for. I have called Higher Ground maybe three times and asked to have Chelsea return my call, and within one or two hours she gets back to me. I have zero complaints, and only great praise to give all those working at Higher Ground. ☺️👍🤟🤘✌️ 🤜💖🤛

An amazing place to find the best therapists and counselors in the Bangor/Brewer area (and probably all of Northern Maine). The staff are caring and professional. They are willing to listen to each client's individual needs and form a treatment plan that puts the client (not just their symptoms) at the center of it. If you are in a financially difficult position, do not hesitate to talk with the front desk about how they can help you get treatment without over extending your means. The amount of healing I have experienced at Higher Ground is staggering. I feel anyone who is struggling owes it to themself to schedule a consultation. Thank you Higher Ground!

Best mental hospital in Maine. They act like this is the most severe place you can end up but I found the treatment here to be the best even if the stay was about 50% longer than when I went to other hospitals I deserved it because I was really unwell when I started.
I was difficult to work with and paranoid about trying their medication but they worked with me. The best part is they never forced me to take anything except one time when I dissolved a pill in my mouth instead of swallowing it whole. So they made me take it again. Then they said they were going to force me to take haldol once with a shot but I said " time out, I'll take it orally" so they cancelled the shot and I took the pill. That actually really made me angry but they let me go outside right after.
They gave me ice cream for good behavior almost every day. You can call the kitchen and order custom food if they have the ingredients. The coffee is almost unlimited (decaf). You can almost always get a snack if you want one. They gave me headphones and this part was really awesome, they let me use a computer to put music i purchased on Amazon on a memory card for headphones they let me use. So I could listen to the radio or my own music whenever the battery was charged. They allowed books. And I got to go outside multiple times a day. (There is even a tree in the courtyard you can touch.) A tree doesn't seem important but if feels like a big deal if you're locked up.
As far as the treatment team goes I've never worked with a team that was so nice. Doctor Reeves was the smartest most flexible doctor I've ever worked with. I wasn't easy to work with but Reeves did a great job and eventually earned my trust. I should of listened to him more. I'm so used to doctors disrespecting me and forcing me to take meds I don't want to take, it was really refreshing to have a doctor that wanted me on a med I was willing to keep taking long term. I was used to psychiatrists getting my meds wrong so I underestimated Reeves. I should of took his recommendations more often, can't say that for other psychiatrists I've had.
Overall I felt a high level of respect and professionalism from the treatment team.
What was the biggest downside? Ice cold showers during the middle of winter. The showers were ice cold. I'm surprised a pipe didn't burst. They said the water would warm up if I left it running but it never did warm up.

Unfortunately at one point I was a prisoner here, as in I made a bad decision. On that note Charleston really helped they weren't treating me like a criminal they treated me like some one who just needed guidance.
They have a job to do it's our faults we are in there; weather its we actually committed the crime, or just being around the wrong people at the wrong time.
Those are the decisions we made they helped me realize that. That being said some crimes committed, (having heard the stories, and deducing a percentage of them lie to you and some actually do tell the truth.) were committed for reasons justified. justified is not always law abiding.
This facility has good people creating and working with inmates to have good programs in place and jobs to work and make money. Remember in a place like prison the experience is what you make it so if your negative your outcome is negative if you are positive your outcome is positive.

That @Crypto Report is messed up. “No victim, no crime” NO! If it’s against the law it’s a crime. Yes, what’s considered a jailable crime needs to change, I can totally agree on that. But to say that a crime wasn’t committed is ridiculous.

Experiences here are a mixed bag, but I stuck it through and have no complaints about my therapists -- they're fantastic.
I will deduct one star for a passive-aggressive child therapist whose gender-biased opinions (which could be seen as an attempt to drive a wedge in a family) are better off left unsaid in front of their patients. No tact or professionalism.

Maine is ranked 9th nationwide in terms of addiction treatment affordability, with an average cost of addiction treatment of $56,108.
The costs of drug and alcohol rehab in Maine vary widely and depend on several factors, including:
The costs of addiction treatment listed for cities and states are averages based on the cost of the treatment types listed above. These averages are high due to the cost of medical detoxification and residential inpatient rehab programs.
These numbers also reflect the raw cost of drug rehab, before any insurance coverage. The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below.
There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Maine. Most treatment centers accept cash or self-payment, as well as private health insurance. However, there are many treatment centers in Maine that accept Medicaid and Medicare, or offer sliding scale payments or other low-cost payment options.
