My experience was back in November. My husband was brought in with an appendix which burst. The Dr Noursfar said I should call the family. I knew then it was a very serious situation. My husband has undying condition that complicated things. The nurses on that night was beyond expectation. They were so attentive. They knew once he went upstairs I didn't know who was taking him from the emergency room. They called the nurse upstairs and they introduced her to me. I felt so comfortable and eased my fears a little bit more. The surgery took 5 hours. Every time I went upstairs to the surgery unit the girls met me with a smile. Finally, they sent him downstairs. The nurses, Dr Noursfar deserve a gold star! My husband came out that surgery but the Dr saw something he thought we should get checked out and again. He was right. My husband had lung cancer and is in remission. He's not 100% out of the woods. We are doing immunotherapy. Again, I'm proud of our hospital and the people who work there! Thank you!

Presque Isle, Maine | The Aroostook Mental Health Center’s residential treatment program for addiction and co-occurring disorders is based in Presque Isle, Maine. Most of the staff are extremely helpful and really do care! The unfortunate part is like many others have experienced, they try to cram so much information in your head in 28 days that’s it’s almost impossible to retain any of it after the first week or two. I don’t remember much of my stay there. It was an opportunity to clean myself up, and meet some good people though. I would recommend it if you’re willing to work hard, can handle many hours of group therapy, and you are willing to stay clean. To date, I haven’t relapsed, so it must have worked! Also, if you wish to get involved in medically assisted treatment they don’t offer that there. So I would advise to start there before hand so you can have that extra tool to help while you’re there. I started m.a.t after I completed the program and that’s also been a help. Good luck!

In 2006 this was the 1st rehab I had ever been to. It was The Farm back then. Best experience ever. I loved how we had to study our addiction. Yes i relapsed several times after my time there, but because of what I learned there, when I was finally ready, I was able to get clean.

Best mental hospital in Maine. They act like this is the most severe place you can end up but I found the treatment here to be the best even if the stay was about 50% longer than when I went to other hospitals I deserved it because I was really unwell when I started.
I was difficult to work with and paranoid about trying their medication but they worked with me. The best part is they never forced me to take anything except one time when I dissolved a pill in my mouth instead of swallowing it whole. So they made me take it again. Then they said they were going to force me to take haldol once with a shot but I said " time out, I'll take it orally" so they cancelled the shot and I took the pill. That actually really made me angry but they let me go outside right after.
They gave me ice cream for good behavior almost every day. You can call the kitchen and order custom food if they have the ingredients. The coffee is almost unlimited (decaf). You can almost always get a snack if you want one. They gave me headphones and this part was really awesome, they let me use a computer to put music i purchased on Amazon on a memory card for headphones they let me use. So I could listen to the radio or my own music whenever the battery was charged. They allowed books. And I got to go outside multiple times a day. (There is even a tree in the courtyard you can touch.) A tree doesn't seem important but if feels like a big deal if you're locked up.
As far as the treatment team goes I've never worked with a team that was so nice. Doctor Reeves was the smartest most flexible doctor I've ever worked with. I wasn't easy to work with but Reeves did a great job and eventually earned my trust. I should of listened to him more. I'm so used to doctors disrespecting me and forcing me to take meds I don't want to take, it was really refreshing to have a doctor that wanted me on a med I was willing to keep taking long term. I was used to psychiatrists getting my meds wrong so I underestimated Reeves. I should of took his recommendations more often, can't say that for other psychiatrists I've had.
Overall I felt a high level of respect and professionalism from the treatment team.
What was the biggest downside? Ice cold showers during the middle of winter. The showers were ice cold. I'm surprised a pipe didn't burst. They said the water would warm up if I left it running but it never did warm up.

What!…..I can only give 5 stars! 🤔 I would give 10 stars if it was an option. I have been talking to my social worker on the phone for approximately two years now. I get a full 60 minute visit with her and it helps greatly. Early on I believe it was only a matter of a few days before they sent me up for my first appointment. Chelsea listens to me rambling on and on… And when I finally let her speak (LOL) she will come up with some good suggestions in order to help me, help myself. Therapy for me is a very slow process. Let’s face it I’ve had problems for decades… Do I really think they were all going to be solved overnight, NO! That one hour a week helps so much… And every once in a great while I need to rely on the crisis line… That’s what they are there for. I have called Higher Ground maybe three times and asked to have Chelsea return my call, and within one or two hours she gets back to me. I have zero complaints, and only great praise to give all those working at Higher Ground. ☺️👍🤟🤘✌️ 🤜💖🤛

An amazing place to find the best therapists and counselors in the Bangor/Brewer area (and probably all of Northern Maine). The staff are caring and professional. They are willing to listen to each client's individual needs and form a treatment plan that puts the client (not just their symptoms) at the center of it. Unfortunately at one point I was a prisoner here, as in I made a bad decision. On that note Charleston really helped they weren't treating me like a criminal they treated me like some one who just needed guidance.
They have a job to do it's our faults we are in there; weather its we actually committed the crime, or just being around the wrong people at the wrong time.
Those are the decisions we made they helped me realize that. That being said some crimes committed, (having heard the stories, and deducing a percentage of them lie to you and some actually do tell the truth.) were committed for reasons justified. justified is not always law abiding.
This facility has good people creating and working with inmates to have good programs in place and jobs to work and make money. Remember in a place like prison the experience is what you make it so if your negative your outcome is negative if you are positive your outcome is positive.

That @Crypto Report is messed up. “No victim, no crime” NO! If it’s against the law it’s a crime. Yes, what’s considered a jailable crime needs to change, I can totally agree on that. But to say that a crime wasn’t committed is ridiculous.
