| Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center is a Joint Commission accredited substance use and co occurring (dual diagnosis) disorder treatment center for adolescents. The facility is located on a 65 acre campus in Oxford, Mississippi, and offers 60 and 90 day residential treatment programs for teen boys. While there is no residential program for girls, | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Stonewater truly cares about the boys and families who participate in their recovery program. Dropping our son off, sight unseen, was the hardest thing to do in a dark time, but Stonewater staff supported us every step of the way and put our fears at ease. Communication was prompt, caring and informative, as we navigated residential treatment center operations. What appealed to me when making a decision was first- that it was family owned and operated by those in recovery or affected by addiction and or mental health needs, second- there are a max of 14 adolescent males at a time, third- it has a program ending duration of 90 days, fourth- it’s on 65 beautiful acres, fifth- staff were interested in my son’s specific needs and if he was a good fit, sixth- Stonewater’s emphasis on family participation is key throughout the entire process of healing and seventh- guidance for families to research and develop after care plans from the start to have a plan in place upon release. My son feels it’s one of the best facilities in the country, he’s not felt this healthy in years and says it changed his life. To hear his testimony speaks volumes to the quality of care Stonewater provides.

Sending my 16 year old son to Stonewater was the most frightening thing I’ve ever done. With all the negative publicity circulating in the media about the “Troubled Teen Industry” or “TTI”, I knew that sending my son to Stonewater could be the end of our relationship. However, I also knew that absent a residential recovery center, my son’s life would likely be very short.
As a resident of Portland, Oregon, we live in a city where hard drugs were decriminalized in 2020. This, paired with social media algorithms that push drug dealers to children’s recommended followers, and missed social and educational opportunities from when the state of Oregon shut down public schools for nearly two years during COVID, left my son with deficiencies and vulnerabilities that quickly pulled him into the world of drugs and alcohol before I could understand what was happening to him. I knew we had to act fast or my son would be dead.
We removed our son from the city of Portland and removed all access to electronics while working quickly with a family consultant (Northlight Family Services) to find the right residential treatment center for him. Our family was not excited about sending him to Mississippi, but we felt it was the right fit, and getting recovery right the first time is essential for long -term well being.
I could not be more pleased with this decision. For three months, Stonewater cared for my son 24/7 and provided the medical, mental, spiritual, physical and social support he needed (and that we could not possibly sufficiently provide) during this devastating and challenging time. He became sober, he was put on the correct medications for his mental health needs, attended recovery program meetings off campus, had extensive individual therapy and family therapy (via zoom) and connected with peers who were willing to hold him accountable.
As he worked his recovery, the staff at Stonewater maintained constant contact with our family. We spoke with his therapist weekly, we got weekly updates from the nurse practitioner who administers medications, we received calls from the psychiatrist when necessary, and we had weekly calls with the on-site educator. Additionally, we had bi-weekly calls with a family support coordinator who helped us plan for his return home.
My son is on a trajectory of continued recovery and finding his purpose in life. His relationships with family members are improved. He is grateful for his time at Stonewater, and for the recovery that began there. Admittedly, it was not easy but do not be fooled by the negative publicity you’ll fine online regarding this industry. Holding kids accountable is not the same as shaming them. Doing chores is not slave labor. Having expectations is not the same as oppression. These are all life skills that must be learned in order to become a well-adjusted contributing member of society.
If your son is headed down a path of destruction with drugs and/or alcohol, I would highly recommend sending him to Stonewater. It was worth every cent and I do not for a moment regret this decision.

Where do I even begin? Writing this feels like trying to catch a sunbeam—it's overflowing with emotions. Our journey with Stonewater has been a miracle. When we were searching for residential care, it was like being lost in a storm. Terrifying doesn't even begin to cover it. But right from that very first call to Stonewater, it was like a gentle hand reaching out. There was this immediate warmth, this understanding that wrapped around me—and hearing them talk about incorporating faith? That was like a sigh of relief and comfort. It just felt right. We had to wait a few weeks for a bed, which felt like forever, but even then, they were so kind, offering other options while letting us know they were there for us. And deep down, I just knew Stonewater was where we needed to be. When I dropped off my 17-year-old in September 2024, he was… well, hurting. We were all hurting. It was a chaotic, scary time, and we were all so afraid. But somehow, I trusted them. There was nothing more we could do on our own. I had faith in the process and in the professionals. It felt like finally surrendering, saying, "Okay, we're lost, but I hope you know the way." Stonewater was our last hope, and they became our lifeline.
And the communication? Oh my goodness, it felt like constant, gentle reassurance. I probably emailed his therapist, Bec, daily, and she always replied with grace and empathy. I was a nervous wreck, holding onto my seat, waiting for the next disaster- but I knew he was safe. And those family weekends? They were just… pure love. You could see how much everyone cared, how invested the founders were, and how much the boys were changing. It filled me with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, mixed with a hint of that "what now?" feeling, filled with fear for the future and the unknown, but I knew they were building a solid foundation. It’s beautiful that many of the staff have walked similar paths. This creates an incredible connection with the boys, and you can see the beauty of recovery all around. The bonds we formed—with the staff and other families—are just… precious. Stonewater wasn't only working on my boy; they were also supporting me.
It was truly God's grace that led us there. We wouldn't be where we are today without them, and I'd recommend them a thousand times over. Even their aftercare recommendations were spot-on. They just get it- they know what they are doing. Now, months later, I am still watching my boy bloom into the incredible young man I always knew he could be, and Stonewater has played a pivotal role in this. I'm so incredibly grateful to Stonewater and especially to Bec Inman, whom I absolutely adore. I pray that God continues to bless them, every single person there, and every young man who walks through their doors. They're doing such beautiful, important work.

They definitely fixed up the place , no more beeping thermostat, no more wall paper pealings, feels less dark , the doctors room is the old waiting room and less cramped , it feels much more open, they got rid of the rugs and got nice bright colors, wood floor adds to welcomeness of the walls that were re painted, and though I do not know if it is permanent I hope it is great job fixing up the place :)

For me, my experience in the North Unit at Parkwood for eleven days was exactly what I needed to give me many coping and relapse skills to gain confidence in myself to move forward to understand I needed time in sober living to do just that. My therapist, Betty, had two therapy/counseling sessions everyday that set me up with the courage, confidence, and scientific evidence of my disease but most importantly, the desire to move forward in my recovery. Betty was also instrumental in giving me a referral to a sober living facility. She worked out all the details including transportation and uber service at no charge to me.I would also like to also acknowledge the entire tech, nursing, doctorial, psychiatrist , cleaning and food services staff. The food was delicious, healthy with large proportions. Snacks are given out regularly and you will have a large smoking area with seats and tables.I would like to recognize three very important staff members to me, Tasha W., Betty and Dr. Sani who helped me through detox, medical questions, med adjustments and referrals to sober living facilities. And lastly, to Tasha W. who was kind, patient, supportive and just plain positive and fun to be around!Thank you Parkwood Bethany G.

My experience with Fairland was one of the most welcoming and nurturing experiences by far. The place is ran by a few former addict's that have been through addiction and overcome addiction through Fairland. I like the fact that I can talk to an addict that has been through the struggle of addiction not just some snobby educated person who never been through addiction nor understand enough to express addiction unless it's they're on assumption looking from the outside in.
